Belle Boyd is in the news again: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/04/21/2239260/civil-war-tourism-map-touts-life.html "The Belle Boyd House in the Eastern Panhandle is one of 150 lesser-known Civil War destinations the commission is highlighting on a new 13-state map to be released Thursday, pointing the way to that footnote on history and plenty more." About the Appalachian Regional Commission: http://www.arc.gov/about/ARCHistory.asp "This is the third tourism map the ARC has created, with others focused on thematic driving tours." I have been to Belle's home and her father Ben Boyd's store. It is the home of the Berkeley County West Virginia Historical Society and a Civil War Museum. How many of you have also been there? What was your favorite part of your tour of the house? I had to giggle at the letter she wrote to her cousin in which she extolled the virtues of her beauty. By the way.... there is a woman writing a book about Belle and she'd like to be in touch with Belle's descendants. I have suggested she post to the list.
