Please help!!!! This is my second attempt to find information on my following ancestor(s). Thank you! (his father was possibly Robert Boyd and mother Elizabeth Inu) ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Brenda <glenpoolgal@sbcglobal.net> To: Boyd Ancestor Questions <boyd@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, February 25, 2011 2:30:26 PM Subject: Allison Boyd or Boid b. 1838 in either Illinois or Warren Co., TN lived in Madison Co., Arkansas please help with any information you may have on the following: Allison Boyd 1838-1912 one source says born in Illinois, another source says born in Warren Co., TN and moved to Madison Co., Arkansas. 1870 census lists Boyd as Boid. He married his 1st wife in 1857, Hannah Drake 1836-1892 born in Warren Co., TN. they had 7 children as follows (I don't have info on all 7) : John W. 1858, Willas 1861, Randolph (my great grandpa) 1863, Wilborn R. 1869, *NOTE HERE* says the Drake family lives with them according to ancestry.com and lists the Drake children as: Margrett A. Boid 1857 and James M. Boid 1860. ***if these are Drake children, I don't understand why their last name is Boid and it refers to 7 other children but I only have info on 4 of them. Also, Allison later married (2nd wife) Margaret E. (don't know previous last name for her) in 1892 and had 2 children. this is all of the information I have. thanks everyone for all of your help. when I have this more together, I will submit it. thank you. Brenda

Brenda >From the dates you have provided for the Drake children, I think we can rule out that there were Hannah's own children from a previous marriage. I WOULD ASSUME that they are from one of Hannah's brothers. So you may need to join a Drake Net group for a while to post your information or one of the County locations in TN. So have you found where in the 1860 Census that Allison Boyd's family was living and were there any Drake families living near by? But to answer your question as to why the Drake children "used" the name Boyd instead of Drake. In the 1860's USA, they would not have been formally adopted, if they came to live with Allison Boyd and his family - assume both parents had died - did they informally take the Boyd name or just called that because they lived in the Boyd household. Do any other list members have any views on this?
