    1. [BOYD] Rev. Soldiers interred in PA
    2. This was found in two volumes and had numerous contributors. Sometimes the names were in alphabetical order and sometimes, not. Consequently, I may have missed a few, but I did peruse each page of both volumes. I discovered that the index of names was not correct and there was a handwritten note taped in of numerous men whose names had been omitted. None of them were Boyds, but I feel sure that there are more than are listed in these books. 1. [BOYD] John BOYD, Sr. and Sarah GRYFYTH/GRIFFITH Family
    2. Curtis
    3. I am looking for my husband's Boyd's Family. This is what I know. John BOYD, Sr. b 1735 England d May 1800. m CA-1754 Sarah (GRYFYTH) GRIFFITH b Wales d Dec 1806 Berkeley Co.,VA (now West Virginia). This BOYD family came from England about 1750, John Boyd, Sr. settled in VA receiving a tract of land from Lord Fairfax, the close friend of George Washingon. The old BOYD mansion, built in all probability by Elisha BOYD (1769-1841), son of John, Sr (1735-1800)., is still to be seen at Martinsburg, now West VA. He had 8 children. The seven older of these emigrated to Kentucky soon after the State was admitted to the Union. General Elisha BOYD, the 8th child remained in VA at the BOYD home. They settled in Berkeley Co.,VA now West Virginia. 1.) Charles BOYD b 12-April-1756 VA d 1831 Never Married was the eldest child who was born presumably in Berkeley Co.,VA. No one in the family has found any written record of what disability or injury he may have had, but based upon his father's will dated in 1800 when Charles was forty-four years of age, he was unable to provide for himself. Charles lived with his yournger brother John in Nicholas Co.KY after his mother died, and moved with him to Lawrence Co.,IN, in 1827. On 19-Jan-1828, when Charles was seventy-one years of age, John's son, John III, entered into an agreement to support Charles during his natural life, It is believed Charles died in Indian Creek Twp.,IN ca 1830. He was age 74 at the time of his death. The given name Charles seems to have brought bad luck in the BOYD family. Charles Anthony BOYD is the fourth and last Charles BOYD in four consecutive generations and they are the only Charles BOYD'S in the whole family. Only one of them had children or good health. 2.) Margaret BOYD b 15-Feb-1758 Berkeley Co.,VA (now West Virginia) was the second child of John and Sarah (GRIFFITH) BOYD, and was married to a SUTTON. His given name may have been John. She was alive at the date of her mother's will in Octorber 1805, and presumably was living in KY as were all the other children except Elisha, the youngest child. John SUTTON was the only known child of Margaret BOYD. Since his parents may have married before marriage records were first kept in Berkeley Co.,VA in 1781. John SUTTON may have been an adult prior to his being named in his grandfather's will written in April 1800. Margaret was named in her mother's will written in October 1805, however John was not one of the other grandchildren to receive a legacy at that time, which may indicate that he had reach majority or had died. It seems probable that John SUTTON is the only grandchild in this line of descent since his mother was 42 years of age when she and John were named in John BOYD'S will in 1800. 3.) *John BOYD, JR. She died about 1818 or 1820. In 1826 John BOYD, Jr., who had served three years in the Revolutionary War from VA, emigrated from Nicholas Co.,KY to Lawrence Co.,IN together with most of his family. He died in 1829, at the age of 69, and is buried at Shiloh Church Cemetery, 4 miles west of Bedford,Lawrence Co.,IN. John's childen either stayed in Indiana or moved on to Missouri, Arkansas or Illinois. Some great grandchildren remained in these states while others went to Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oregon and California. John is buried in Shiloh Church Cemetery, a few miles west of Bedford. IN in Indiana Creek Twp. His grave is in the southwest corner of the cemetery, next to the fence separating the cemetery from the Route 158 road. He was in the 4th Virginia Militia and Revolutionary War. John was the third child of John (1735-1800) and Sarah GRIFFITH BOYD (-1806) was born presumably in the family home just west of Martinsburg near BOYD'S Gap in North Mountain in what was then Frederick County,VA. Berkeley County was created from Frederick County in 1772, located in the northern most part of Virginia that became the eastern most part of the 35th State of West Virginia in 1863, and separating from Virginia over the slavery issue. The first records of John as an individual were those of his Revolutionary War service, beginning as a private in Captain George Walls' Company, 4th Virginia Regiment. Although he entered military service at the age of 17, it was fourteen more years before he was married to Ann "Nancy" MARTIN on 7-Sep-1791 by Reverend John David YOUNG of St. John's Lutheran Church in Martinsburg,VA. John and Nancy went west to Bourbon Co., KY in the mid 1790's coming down the Ohio River on a flat boat and landing at Maysville,KY. They made their way south to what is now Bath Co.,KY where they settled; 4.)
