Good morning everyone! Mike, this is from my family of Boyds in Patrick/Franklin County VA.. Michelle Ligon and Sherrie Kirby and I all go back to these three brothers, that we know of, Hugh, Joseph, and Robert. The Tiller's research shows that Robert died around 1830 in VA, but they give no locale. Elizabeth Rakes is listed as the daughter of Charles Rakes and Jane, Indian(?). For their children, they show the same children, but add that Oney/Leony married Edmond Arrington on 08 Mar 1829 in Patrick County. The Tillers then go on to list eight children for Elisha, but there is no other listing for Leony and Samuel. I'm sure the Tillers won't mind if I list he eight children in a further reply, if anyone wants to have them in their records. Their research is very substantial and has held up so far. May I make a plea that if anyone knows any thing about these Boyds of Patrick and Franklin (they owned land on the border of these two counties) that they please offer up what they know. Well I am excited to see my ancestors on the web. My line is Robert, Elisha, Robert, Samuel,William D., William T., then me, William T. I am able to establish facts on all of these except for 5th Grandfather , Robert. That is my wall. My research shows that Elizabeth Rakes, b. 1890 in Franklin Co., Va., mothers name was Jane Hubbard. Their son Elisha was born about 1807 in Patrick Co., Va., d. 3 Oct, 1865 in Vandyke, Buchanan Co., Va. He was married to Ella Leah Cockran on 18 Nov., 1830 in Franklin Co., Va. She was born in 1810 in Franklin Co, Va., and died in Vandyke, Buchanan Co., Va. Elisha and Ella Leah had 8 children; Christiana, Robert, Sarah Leah, John, Isham, Isaac, Samuel, and William. Robert was born in 1834 in Franklin Co., Va. He married Lucinda Short on 9 Jan, 1855 in Russell Co., Va. She was born in Grayson Co., Va. about 1939. They had 4 children; Sarah E., Samuel B., Elisha, and Lou P. Samuel was born on 4 June, 1855 in Buchanan Co, Va., died 24 Feb. 1915 in South Vanceburg, Lewis Co., Ky. He was married to Julia Elizabeth Lowe on 4 Dec. 1873 in Tazewell, Tazewell Co., Va. She was born in 1855 in Tazewell Co., Va. Samuel and Julia had three children; William D., my grandfather, Lucinda, and Martha. William D. was born 3 Jan, 1874 in Tazewell, Va. He died 3 Aug., 1951 in Vanceburg, Lewis Co., Ky. That is the backbone of my research. There are a lot of other facts on others along the way that I would be happy to share.
