    1. [BOYD] William and Jane Boyd, arrived New York 1850 from Belfast?
    2. Rebecca Boyd
    3. Hello, Everyone! Mike was kind enough to pass my information along last week, and I'm now here with some updates. A brief review, first:  I am looking for a William Boyd who emigrated to the US from Belfast and served in the Union army during the Civil War.  My ultimate goal is to get through my line's Irish period and back to Scotland.  Unfortunately, I'm stuck in the American period right now. I've been digging around on Ancestry.com, and I now believe that the William I am looking for was born circa 1840.  I found a US Immigration Record that puts him arriving at the port of New York in 1850 on a ship from Belfast, at the age of 10.  The only other Boyd on the ship with him was Jane, age 20.  I don't know if she was his sister or his cousin, but if the ages are correct, she was too young to be his mother.  I am wondering if the two of them were potato famine orphans. I also have some more specific information about his wartime experiences from my aunt: He was a soldier in the Ohio 6th Regiment (Union), wounded at the Battle of Stones River, and married the Confederate nurse who tended his wounds.  Her name was Fannie Hines (maybe Hynes), and she was the daughter of Barney Hines (Hynes?), who was from County Galway, Ireland.  I believe that Fannie's mother was Anoria Walsh, but I'm not 100% certain. William and Fannie settled down in Nashville, TN and, according to my aunt, lived in a house on Hayes St. I checked the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/), and sure enough there are two William Boyds in that regiment - one a private, the other a sergeant.  The family lore says that our William was a captain, so it's only a small leap to imagine that the sergeant in the system is the William I'm looking for. What I'm really interested right at this moment in is his parentage, though, not his military service, because - again - I'm trying to trace our line back to Scotland.  I wonder:  Are his military records likely to include parentage? If so, I will order them.   Or, the dream-come-true scenario:  Do I have any long lost cousins on the list who can fill me in? To recap, I now believe that the sequence of events is something like this: 1840: William is born in Ireland 1850: He arrives in New York at age 10, with Jane (age 20) 1860ish:  He joins 6th Ohio Regiment and fights for the Union in the Civil War January 1863:  He is wounded at the Battle of Stones River, near Murfreesboro TN 1866:  He marries Confederate nurse Fannie Hines (Hynes?);  William and Fannie go on to live in Nashville, TN.   1895:  He dies in Tennessee. And, again, who I'm really looking for William's parents in Ireland. Here's my direct tree: William J. Boyd, born 1840 in Ireland, died 1895 in Nashville, TN USA married to Fannie Hines, born 1844, daughter of Barney and Anoria (nee Walsh) Hines William Boyd, born 1874 in Nashville, TN married to Annie Petty, born 1892, daughter of James and Nancy Ann Petty William Joseph Boyd, Jr., born 27 Mar 1914 in Nashville, TN, died 27 Dec 1995 married to Mary Greer Kimery, born 30 Oct 1916 in Nolansville, TN, died 2001, daughter of Walter Parkes and Carolyn Belle (nee Williams) Kimery William Joseph Boyd III, born 5 Aug 1937 in Nashville, TN, died 20 Oct 1998 in Bedford, VA married to Miriam Kay Bitner,  born 1 Dec 1944 in Nashville, TN, daughter of Edwin Eli and Doris Ruth (nee Benefiel) Bitner Rebecca Boyd, born 26 Feb 1982 in Nashville, TN  Hope there's someone out there who can point me in the right direction!  :) Best wishes, Rebecca Boyd South Carolina, USA
