His full name was George Washington Boyd and he married Laura Leonard. George was the son of William Boyd and Hannah (nee Fulks but I also have heard her name as Hannah J Emson). I have done a lot of digging over the years and have found out that yes, the Boyd's did come over from Ireland, but they only ended up in Ireland after being run out of Scotland. They were given the lands of Kilmarnock from no other than Robert the Bruce, after they helped him win the Battle of Bannockburn. I lived in Scotland for many years and have visited Dean Castle which belonged to the Boyd's before they were run out of Scotland. Charles, the son of Lord Boyd was taken in and hidden by the Hall family and he went to college in Belfast. One of Hall's sons came to America and Boyd came with him even bringing an oil painting of his royal parents. Charles and Hall bought up great tracks of land in both New Jersey and Virginia. He married Susan Carpenter who! was the daughter of a Kentucky plantaion owner. I have herd rumours that one of their sons married a "Todd" girl...never made the connection to Abe Lincoln's "Todd" until you mentioned this! Their first-born was John Leland (called Tipp by friends and family). John left home after his father was killed to follow the gold rush. The next paragraph is from my great grandfathers notes: " They had another boy, Charles, and he took most of the family things from the old home, including the oil painting of our Scots Royal Boyds. The last I knew of them, they were in the home of Alice Boyd (Charles daughter?)Alice went on a trip and rented the home to two men who piled coal on the painting and ruined it." I have one of my great grandfather's bibles and in it I found a note that said, " Charles Boyd was wrongfully imprisoned in NewCastle." ! I hope some of this helps!
