    3. Saw the same thing and did a little research. James W Boyd was born 1822 at Hopkinsville Kentucky. Later lived in Jackson Tennessee. Married Caroline Malone in 1845 and had 7 children. Was a Confederate officer who was captured and later paroled to care for his children after his wife died. Saw a document on file at the University on Indiana that was a letter he wrote to Sec. of War Stanton. He proposed to Stanton that for monetary consideration he would spy on Confederate operations in western Tennessee where, he claimed, he knew everything. All this is easily googled and interesting from a history standpoint. I had not realized how much confusion there was immediately after Lincoln's assassination and how unstable the government was. Makes interesting research. Seems the that the man shot at Garret's Farm was not Booth but double spy James W Boyd a Capt of the Confederacy. They are waiting for permission to exhume Booth's brother to make DNA comparisons. There are artifacts from Booth at Walter Reed Hosp. in D.C.that makes this possible. viewed on channel 269 (The History Channel) DirecTV Awrabest, Cal ______________________________________ House of Boyd Society's (HBS) Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Gathering of the Clan 2012 will be held in Woodland,CA, USA in conjunction with the Sacramento Caledonian Club's 136th annual Sacramento Valley Scottish Games & Festival in April 2012 (unofficial date April 28th and 29th -- to be confirmed by the venue). 3. Do any members of list know the names of the 7 children of this James W Boyd and Caroline Malone. Or which Boyd family in Hopkinsville, KY that he may belong to. Larry which "body" is doing this research? Could we ask if their DNA test is compared to those form the Boyd DNA project, etc? 3. Mike and all, That is all I know and I would not swear to the accuracy of this. Like Cal I heard about it on the history channel and did about an hour's research. The documents at the U. of Indiana are a primary source. He mentions his 7 children. There is a story that he was supposed to meet some of his family at Brownsville Texas to go the Mexico but this may have been Booth posing as James. At any rate no one showed up. It is a fact that James Boyd's name became mixed up in the assassination. It is also a fact that James suggested he spy for the North. The rest starts being rumor it would seem. There are many references online and the suggestion is that James died in place of Booth and that Booth made a clean get away. I do not buy into conspiracy theories so I do not subscribe to the stories. It does not look like the evidence will ever be in unless someone is able to do DNA on Booth. I may do some more research at some future date and if so I will post it. For now it is just an interesting story and since so many Boyds passed through Kentucky and Tennessee, including by ancestors, James is probably in one of our trees.
