As many of you will have seen over the last three weeks or so, quite a number of regions in the south and up to the central Queensland have been flooded. On Monday afternoon, there was a cloud bust at Toowoomba, about 100 kms west of Brisbane - in which 10 people were killed because the water rose so quickly. This water, which is several time larger than Sydney Harbour, came to Ipswich yesterday and peaked this Morning in Brisbane with a King Tide. I think that in Ipswich some 3,000 houses went under - with some having the water going over their roofs. In Brisbane, the next local council area, down the river, they think that some 40,000 homes and businesses have been flooded. Our CBD is a ghost town at present, as it has been flooded and they had to turn off the electricity. Our part of town is very nice and dry. But yesterday when I went to my local fruit shop they said that they will most likely close today for a week because fruit and vegetables will not be able to get into Brisbane, as most of our Highways are covered with water. They expect that some people may not be able to live in their homes for up to 6 to 12 months, as many will have to rebuilt inside before people can live in them. While I do not know of any Boyds being in trouble, I expect that there are some Boyd cousins out there that will have had to take up swimming lessons quickly in the last few days. Mike Boyd
Hi Mike, Thank you! We have been concerned about you, and are thankful that you are alright. Of course, we think about all who have been touched by these floods, and hope there will be better days ahead. It may be selfish of me.... but.... I am glad that you are high and dry, Mike! I am sorry that your countrymen are experiencing this devastation.
