    3. Robert 1) Did any of her children have the name Boyd in their Christian names? 2) You may also need to join the Chatham County, NC rootsweb.net list for a few weeks to "advertise" this family of yours. It would also be worth joining the Teague and Beadle rootsweb.com Net list as well to see what those lists might produce for you. This way your query is on their records. Then go back in 3 or 6 months time and either repeat your query. Or if you find out more data before then, re-join and post your new information. 3) Do you know which town in 1789, she was born in? 4) From the 1790 US Census there are these two Boyd families in Chatham county, NC -----Original Message----- From: Robert Boyd via Sent: Sunday, November 1, 2015 7:35 AM To: boyd@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOYD] Help with a maiden name Hi, all. You were so helpful last time I needed help. Well, I have another. Susan (maybe Susannah) was born 30 September 1789 in Chatham County North Carolina USA. She married a man named James Teague in about 1809. In 1815, they moved to Butler County Ohio. Her husband died. She remarried, this time to John Beadle who died in 1832. She died August 28 1877. She's (probably) not a Boyd, but she's my direct ancestor. I don't know her maiden name. Can you help?

    3. This is all very interesting. According to Wikipedia, John the first Baronet of Danson was the son of "Augustus Boyd (1679–1765), a northern Irish merchant who owned several sugar estates on the islands and later moved to London to set up trade links there with the plantations." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_John_Boyd,_1st_Baronet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danson_House "Originally called Danson Hill, the Palladian villa was designed ...for sugar merchant and vice-chairman of the British East India Company, Sir John Boyd, son of the St Kitts planter and slaveholder Augustus Boyd." Most gedcoms on Ancestry.com don't show this Augustus Boyd's parents, nor where he was born in Northern Ireland, but a few show him as John Augustus Boyd. His wife was Lucy Peters of St. Kitts. Some show his father as a John Boyd but no dates or locations for him (and no source for name of father) , but one gedcom showing him as John Augustus (born at London before 1702) cites Cokayne's Complete Peerage, volume V, page 184 (not searched). Another gedcom shows his father as Alexander Boyd (again no sources). I'm wondering if Mary Lockhart connects back to the Lockharts and Weirs of Lanarkshire. Two daughters of Alexander Lockhart, son of George Lockhart 2nd of Carnwath & Lady Euphemia Montgomery, married Boyds. They were: Rebecca Lockhart m. 15 Sep 1749, James, Lord BOYD (1726-1778) while her sister Anne LOCKHART m. Charles BOYD (1728-1782). http://www.lockharts.com/2010/01/09/lockharts-of-lee/ > Date: Thu, 29 Oct 2015 09:44:48 -0500 > To: boyd@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [BOYD] William Boyd of Nettle Point, Grenada > From: boyd@rootsweb.com > > I believe this William is one of the five sons of Archibald, brother > of John the Baronet of Dansen Hall, Hugh of Trinidad, Samuel the pirate > and slave trader, and David the London merchant. 3. I do not believe there is any Scottish connection with this family. Augustus was French Hugenot exiled to Ireland. The Wiki entries on this family are purposly misleading. He got his start as a pirate with letters of Marquis. Also, I was wrong before. These brothers were the grandsons of Augustus by John the second Baronet. They owned several of the British west Indies Islands. Their major estate was on St. Kits where the mansion still stands, in the town of Boyds. The great house is now a restaurant/hotel and will be detailed in my book about "the Houses of Boyd". Today it is called the Fairview Great House It was a massive spread, you can see it from space: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Boyd's,+St+Kitts+and+Nevis/@17.3012426,-62.7711739,481m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x8c121c13c377685d:0xc8e9874c3c1426e1 John Boyd first baronet was, for a time, considered the richest man alive. Abolition brought about his downfall. Any well researched book about the British west Indies slave trade will have at least one chapter on these Boyds. I will refrain from divulging all that I know about these guys as it isn't very pleasant. I have never been able to prove, but I do believe, they are related to the Boyds of Mecklenberg/Lunenburg. I will let these family members respond with more if they wish. 3. Shannah Yes it was at the Cloverdale Library that one of the staff looked at his PC and came up with the number of 787 Boyd books. I had worked at the Central Library for two days with Rosemary Cryer and had gone with all or most of their family history Books - which were not very many for such a Library. So on the Saturday, Rosemary said we should go to the BC Genealogical Society at Surry. This was quite good, but you needed to be a local to find their building and also have a car. We were doing quite well until a storm caused a blackout in the area and we had to use the light form the window to check the index for Boyds and "feel" the shelves to find the books. So after we had some lunch down the street, which also did not have any power, we decided to go to Cloverdale - which was further out - and hope that it did have power. It took some time to get there due to traffic congestion due to traffic lights not working, and we only had less than an hour before it closed. I have yet to get to that material, so I can sort it out and make a list of what we found. But when I do that I will post list, so you know what is there. For some reason BC Canada seems to be a place where many Boyds and descendants have settled. 3. Hello! A few additional facts: William Boyd owned 2 estates in St Mark's Parish, Grenada: Nettle Point and Diamond. He's listed in the slaves registers 1818-1827. Sometime in 1827 or 1828 William Boyd died, as in the 1828 register both estates and all attached slaves have been sold to Andrew & Robert Houstoun, by attorney David McEwen for James Boyd. Thank you, Beth

    3. As to my previous Emails So the questions as to what INFORMATION might be required in a LIST OF BOOKS on Clan Boyd website 1. full book title, author's name, date, the edition (if other than first edition) place of publication, publisher, ISBN number or US Library of Congress number; 2. Cadet Branch and Family chapter Number in Clan Boyd of Scotland; 3. List of known family researchers; 4. known origins; 5. possible origins through DNA?; 6. other comments So as a new (or those old) researchers, when you find a “new” book/publication, what do you need to know about it? I assume that there are still some 600 or 700 backs that are need to be listed in the previous book list. Good discussion Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee House of Boyd society
