    3. In adding more family data to the family of Robert Boyd and Mary Peoples’s son Alexander Boyd (1763?-1815) who married Martha Boyd – his cousin – the daughter of William Boyd and Mary Dorman – it would appear that both Robert and William Boyd came form County Antrim, and Alexander Boyd came to lived with William and Mary in Chester county, SC. In the footnotes for Alexander and Martha Boyd’s 10th child – Andrew Jackson Boyd (1815-1891) it provided information for six children for Andrew from the above book. So does either Volumes of this book for Chester County provide any further data on any other Boyd families? Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust.

    3. Dear Boyd List Subscribers, Cousins, Researchers: If you have posted a message that did not hit the list and got held on the server, please consider taking a look to improve the chances of it going to the list without need for me to review and mannually release it. As I mentioned the other day, due to RootsWeb/Ancestry not doing a decent job of filtering spam, review of messages on the server is truly unwieldy. I am drawing a line. Finding 769 messages to review today are far too many. Even just looking at the subject lines. I have dumped all of them. If there are valuable bits of information in reply to a message crossposted to another list, I am sorry, they will not hit the Boyd list. There will have to be another way to manage it. 2. Mike Boyd via
    3. Folks It does not seem that long ago - in 2012 - that I came from Brisbane to help Barry with his first Games at Maverick Stadium. 1) Barry, do you know what other Ayrshire clans might have a tent at this years Games? The Boyd married into many Scottish Clans, but many of these were in Ayrshire - such as the Cunninghams, Montgomeries, Muir, Crawfords, Blair, Kerr, Wallace, Kennedy to just name a few. So it would be very good also see if any of these "other" Ayrshire clans will have a tent there as well so Boyd researchers can visit them as well. Is it possible to form a "Ayrshire Clan Group", so that if someone is looking for a particular Ayrshire clan - and they do not have a tent at the Games - that we can have a separate list to record their names so that can be sent onto that Clan Society? 2) When I was there there were a number of ventures who had Boyd products? Do you know if there will be any ventures selling Boyd products? Last year when I was in Scotland, I tried about 10 or 12 shops to find a Boyd "strap and motto" badge without any success. Would any of these ventures of Boyd tartan cloth! Hear I am thinking of cloth to make a Boyd tartan tablecloth for Thanks giving or other special events like birthdays, etc I assume you ladies will have other suggestions as to what might be made from this cloth as well. If members are on any of the Texas rootsweb.con County sites, you may wish to mention to them that Barry will have a Boyd tent at Arlington and they are most welcome to call into it. Enjoy the weekend Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust. -----Original Message----- From: Barry Boyd via Sent: Wednesday, May 4, 2016 2:55 AM To: Boyd rootsweb Subject: [BOYD] Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games Attentions cousins worldwide!! 1. Re: [BOYD] What Boyd families lived at Fishing Creek, Chester County, SC?
    2. Barry Boyd via
    3. This is a fantastic question, Mike. I'll play! There is no short answer to the question. There are several problems we must sort out first. Which "Fishing Creek"? This moniker will be found branching off of every river in the Carolinas but usually only one per county/district. The first settlers to come to this area of what would someday become "Chester county" came in about 1755 and were Scotch/Irish Presbyterians from Chester, Pennsylvania. There was only one footpath and it was about where highway 72 runs. The church was about here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fishing+Creek+Presbyterian/@34.7746304,-81.0494915,12z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xb9e4e7284e7d757a Fortunately for us and this settlement the name has stuck, and this is still called "Fishing Creek". So we are talking about the one in South Carolina, off the Catawba river in what is today Chester County. The next question concerns "Chester county" which did not exist as it is now until 1868. There were several other names for the local governments; Chester county 1755- 1768 when it became Camden District. This same area was part of "Pickney District" in 1791 and only on 1800 did it become again "Chester county". and even then the districts and counties overlapped. People tended to just go to the closest courthouse to do business and this is pretty close to Chester. Here is a valuable resource for that: http://www.mapofus.org/southcarolina/ What complicates the matter even further when we try to sort out these Boyd families who lived in such close proximity here in the Chester area is that it is quite close to the 96th district border and so it seems that some researchers have mixed these families up. Once we separate out all the non- Chester county families what do we have left? Does anyone know where exactly this Boyd property on Fishing Creek, Chester district, South Carolina was, exactly? What land records do we know about? The first census was not until 1790 and it is "District" wide. 1800 has the county boundaries close to how they are today. What does the 1790 census tell us about these Boyds? I would expect there were Boyds among the first Presbyterians to this settlement circa 1755-58. so there is a whole generation there before the first census. Is anyone on the list researching any of these families? Should I add a stop at the Chester County Historical society to my list of days in September? 1. [BOYD] In Canada what Provinces have the most Boyds
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. I think that the snow has melted in Canada, so we need to get some Canadian questions. I know that in both the late 1700’s and early 1800’s Boyds settled in the Atlantic Provinces of Canadia as well as Newfoundland. Some of the 1700 migrates were the Loyalist “removed” from the USA in 1783. I assume that there was some Boyd migration from Ireland and perhaps Scotland also in this period. But there were Boyds involved in the Highland Clearances so some of those might have come to the Atlantic Provinces in that period. I do not know much about when Boyds went to Upper Ontario, but assume it was also in the 1700’s that they arrived there as well. So tell the list whne and where your Boyd families migrated and where they settled? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] What Boyd families lived at Fishing Creek, Chester County, SC?
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. There seems to be “several” Boyd families that lived in the Fishing Creek area of Chester County, SC. In the book The descendants of the Robert Boyd and the Charles Boyd families of Chester County, South Carolina, (2000 Harvard St., Midland 79701), M. Perry, c1987 Max lists two Boyd families. The first was the grandson of Captain Robert Boyd of Cumberland Valley, PA (now Franklin County) whose grandson Robert Boyd settled there. He also mentions in a second part of this Book the family of a David Boyd – whom from memory came directly to Fishing Creek in about the 1770’s (that book is still pack in a box) - Then there seems to be a family of a David Boyd (1738-1815) and Margaret Wylie who also settled on Fishing Creek – whose origins are not clear. So in this one location, we have at least THREE BOYD FAMILIES – that we know of. In this case it will be very easy to confuse these families if you do not work your way back generation by generation. 1. [BOYD] What are the migration paths of your Boyd family in the USA?
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. Good morning all. One method of helping to trace your family to the “right” Boyds is to follow the family folklore as to where they came from. So does you family live in Texas? Is it know where the family said that they came from. did they come from South and fight with the CSA during the Civil War? Which State did they fight with will help you to determine if they might have come from from the Northern States like PA, MD, NJ or NY or the family might have come directly form Ireland or Scotland in the late 1700’s. Did they come to Texas via the Northern Route of Missouri, Indiana, Ohio OA and NY. Then you have the Boyds who went to Washington State and to California in the 1800’s. With all these migration routes, your family will have stoped at various locations, so you will need to join the net sites for these locations at rootsweb.com as well to twll them what you know about your family at that time. 3. *The Top Seven:* According to the 2000 census data, the top seven surnames in America, though they accounted for the tiniest fraction of the surnames (just over sixteen thousandths of a percent), represented about four percent of the population — about 10.7 million people, roughly equivalent to the entire population of Belgium. Can you guess the top seven? *Biggest Gainers and Losers:* Among the thousand most popular surnames in America, we calculated the surnames with the biggest increase and decrease <http://www.pbs.org/pov/apps/thesweetestsound/popularity-index/popindex_gainerslosers.php> in popularity from the 1990 to the 2000 census. See the list <http://www.pbs.org/pov/apps/thesweetestsound/popularity-index/popindex_gainerslosers.php> . *Data Source*: *The U.S. Census Bureau <http://www.census.gov/>* — In 1995, the Census Bureau published a list of surnames occurring 100 times or more from the 1990 decimal census. The 1990 List contains 88,799 names. When the Bureau published the list following the 2000 census, the list contained 151,671 names. *What About Me?* According to the 2000 data, though the entire list of 151,671 surnames covers about 90 percent of the population, it accounts for only about 3 percent of surnames in the United States! The 2000 census found over 6 million surnames total, the vast majority (about 65%) held by just one person. So don't be discouraged if you're not on the list. Ninety-seven percent of all surnames in the United States didn't make the list.

    3. Warren, You seem to be the first researcher to take up the project that is this William and Thomas brothers of New South Wales. The society is dependent on you to find your proofs. If it is any consolation, the fact that you can prove your connection to these brothers puts you far out front of a lot of people who think they know a bunch of stuff that just isn't so. We have a reltively new member of this research team who is the line of Boyd who bought in to the West Indies in the 1680's. The Boyd of Barbados, Trinidad and Tobego, and Jamaica are all over these islands and they rule trade in the islands still today with their network based out of Santo Domingo. In the late 1800's their family empire stretched from Barony of Dansen Hall in London through the Caribbean Ocean across panama. Don Hauk of Hawaii has always believed that he was of this line but has been unable to prove it in his 25+ years of research. Your biggest clue seems to be that they were boatbuilders. This is not a cheap trade. They were rich when they arrived in NSW. and if you can connect this boat building company to the East India Company you will have your connection. Lord John Boyd the first Baronette of Dansen Hall, son of Augustus- the Irish pirate, had at least seven brothers one of which, Robert, traversed the entire globe several times. These are the "Boyd of St. Kitts". Very little is known of what became of some of this family. Sometimes it is a worthwhile endeavor to go back in time from your "brick wall" and work down the generations and see if there is reason to suspect any connection. I suspect a connection here for your William and his brother Thomas. Look at Robert the pirate. There may be one or two generations to work out and this may be a total red herring. Also. I remember suggesting that you look to the archive at the NSW library, specifically all of the newspapers from there at the time. Have you done that yet? Please post whatever you find there to the RootsWeb list so that other researchers may benefit. And if I run across anything that points in any way to Australia I will let you know. Mike Boyd, the clan historian has been looking for his Boyd Scottish connection for forty years. There are no easy answers to genealogy and you are the first person to ask about this line. The only fact I have is that William Boyd was my great grandfather, ( his daughter Maud Gertrude Boyd was my grandmother ). The problem I have is that I cannot get beyond William Boyd to find out where his family initiated. In other words that afore mentioned William Boyd would be my great grandfather and his daughter Maud Gertrude Boyd was my grandmother. > > Barry, for whatever reason I do not appear to be able to get beyond the two brothers os Swansea in NSW Australia.
