    3. Mike et al, The tomb was photographed in 1935. Old and worn unfortunately, so the request still stands. However, it appears to be two stags standing which I do see with any Boyd seals. Mike, take a look and see if anything triggers the memory. USA Library of Congress https://www.loc.gov/resource/hhh.nh0124.photos/?sp=2

    1. [BOYD] George Boyd (1732-1787) of Portsmouth, NH - North Cemetary of Portland, NH
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. George Boyd, was the son of George Boyd who married Abigail Hoyt, and he married Jane Brewster, daughter of Joseph Brewster of Portsmouth, NH. In W. P. Boyd’s book of 1912, he said that this George Boyd died 6 October 1787, two days at sea after returning from England. And is buried at the North Cemetery of Portland, New Hampshire, where it can be seen today with his family coat-of-arms upon it. Do any members of this list live in Portland, NH or live near enough to it to do a “little” Sunday drive to visit this Cemetery to get a picture of these Arms, so we can worh out which Branch of Boyds in Scotland he might have some form. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] Two or one Sir Thomas Boyd in about 1600 in Scotland
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. For a number of years now I have seen references to two Sir Thomas Boyd’s – one of Bedley, Dunbartonshire and the second of Bonshaw, Ayrshire. I am not sure if there is actually one or two people by that name. The Sir Thomas Boyd of Bedley is the second son of the 6th Lord Boyd. He appears to have married in about 1603 Grizel Cunningham, daughter of Jean Blair, Lady Montgrenan and both seemed to be living in 1634. He is the Sir Thomas Boyd who was an undertaker near Strabane, County Tyrone, Ireland as part of the Irish plantation. In about 1610 he is listed as being there with his wife and family (but no details) and in 1613 he has sold his Estate of 1,500 acres to his brother-in-law, James Hamilton, the Earl of Abercorn. I am not sure what happened to him when he returned to Scotland. Thank you for any information Mike Boyd Hitorical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] What towns in New Hampshire died Boyds settle
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. I have just been in contact with the NH State Library in Concord, NH to see what Boyds they might have on Boyd families. They have just replied that the only Boyd book they have is W. P. Boyd 1884 book. And that they do have Histories of various townships. I know that there were Boyds in Londonderry, Antrim and I think in Manchester, NH. So can anyone tell me what other Townships and Counties Histories I need to look at to see if I can find any Boyd family trees? At this time, I plan to spend two days – Tuesday 20 Sept and Wednesday 21 Sept in Concord, NH (and most likely take a train or bus down to Boston, MA on Thursday morning before continuing working in NEHGS Library before I come home to Brisbane. 1. [BOYD] Margaret Boyd of “Irvine” (b 1690 – died after 1732) who married in about 1710 Hugh Hunter (b 1676 – dc 1730) of Corsbie Mill, Ayrshire.

    3. Margaret Boyd of “Irvine” (b 1690 – died after 1732) who married in about 1710 Hugh Hunter (b 1676 – dc 1730) of Corsbie Mill, Ayrshire. I recently got a query about “a” Margaret Boyd – a most common female Boyd name - whom is thought to have come form Irvine, Ayrshire. This Margaret was born about 1690 and in about 1710 married as his second wife Hugh Hunter (1676 – about 1630), miller of Corsbie Mill and who is also listed as a resident of Wallacefield in Dundonald Parish. (There was no indication as to which branch of the Hunters this Hugh Hunter came from.) Their first child, Robert Hunter, was baptised at Dundonald Parish in 1712. Other Hunter children were James (b 1714); Adam (b 1719); Alexander (b 1722); Margaret Hunter (b 1724) who married 1743 to John Woodburn; Mary (b 1726). While one or two children might also have been born in the five-year gap between James and Adam and have most likely died before being baptised. Margaret in 1732 remarried her second husband, James Ramsay, but no children have yet been found for this second marriage. As Margaret was only 42 years old at the time of this second marriage, I would expect some children born to her and James Ramsay to be found. It is believed that Margaret was daughter of Robert Boyd and Jean Stewart of Irvine. I was able to find an entry for a Janet Boyd baptised on 24 May 1719 in Irvine, but no other children to Robert and Jean. So if Janet has the same parents as Margaret, she MIHGT BE about the 15th child to this couple. But I could not find any other children born to any Robert Boyd and Jean Stewart in this period. If you are connected to this Boyd, Stewart, Hunter, Ramsay or Woodburn families I would like to hear from you please. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    3. This is to advise members of this list that I will be going to the Loon Mountain Games on 16-18 September 2016. (Yet to book Hotel) At this time I have not made any travel plans, but I want to get to Boston by Sunday night 11 September 2016 and go to the various Boston Libraries including NEGS before going up to Loon Mountain on Friday afternoon. On Monday 19 September, I was a editorial meeting with a group of researchers from the Boyds of New Windsor, Orange County, NY, who came from Ballyhalbert, County Down, Ireland. Tuesday and Wednesday, I am hoping to go to Concord, NH to go to their State Library and then back to Boston for Thursday and Friday before getting a flight back to Brisbane on Saturday. So if someone is not going to Loon Mountains and wants to talk to me, they can do that at Boston or Concord, NH. Thank you Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee, HBS

In the book The Hearth Tax for Ayrshire 1691, Ayrshire Records Series Volume 1, ed Robert Urquhart & Rob Close, 1998, there are a number of Boyds listed in Irvine. One of these is just termed "Ballie Boyd (6)”. Where the (6) stands for 6 Hearths. Unfortunately, this book does not say what this “Baillie Boyd’s” first name is. Does anyone know what that might have been? And does anyone belong to this Boyd family of Irvine or have any details on this Boyd family? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] Colonel David Boyd's land in Greyabbey Parish County Down
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. Members >From the The Montgomery Manuscripts: (1605-1706), Rev George Hill, 1869, it is know that Colonel David Boyd was given the following Townlands in Greyabbey Parish. # Ballycastle townland is situated about 1 kms north of Mountstewart on the Ards Pen. Where are these townes and lands:- - of Ballymeskivie als Fitsthearton, (could this be modern Ballywhiskin, 2 kms SE of Millisle?) - Ballyheghlaye als Castown, - Ballymechertunere als the Great Bog, - Ballymaccachow, - Ballytemplechrone als Owlstown, - Ballygrange, and - Ballychallock Ballycastle townland is across the road from the Mount Stewart Estate and Ballygrange – now spelt as Ballygrangee – is next to it to the east, but I can’t find the other townland and I am thinking that they may now from part of the Mount Stewart Estate. When I find out more I will let the list know. However if you are going to Belfast this northern summer, Mount Stewart might be a good place to visit as you COULD BE WALKING on Colonel David Boyd’s estate. It is is known that in 1820’s his sixth or so generation migrated to the Pittsburgh area of PA, but there is still much more of his family tree to find. So if your Boyd family came form County Down or more particularly form the Ards Peninsular area, you could be his descendant. Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] Is the JohnBoyd of Quaterland who die din 1719, hte 8th child of David Boyd of Glastry and Margaret Kennedy?
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. It is known that the first son of Colonel David Boyd’s third son Thomas Boyd was David Boyd who died in 1694 and married a Margaret Kennedy – parents unknown – and was the first Boyd to settle in Glastry in the Hamilton Lands – just west of Ballyhalbert. O2 David Boyd, b / /163x ( ), d / /1694 ( ), bu , m / /165x (church, town, county, etc), Margaret Kennedy, dau of and (nee ) Kennedy, b / /163x ( ), d / /16xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: of Glastry, County Down, Ireland ] As you can see, there is very little “data” on both David and Margaret. We do know that they had at least eight children of which “a John Boyd” is the eighth. And we know that he was alive in 1701 when his uncle John Boyd of Drumfad died in 1701 and mentioned this John Boyd in his will. This John Boyd of Drumfad was married to Helen Shaw. At present all I have on this John Boyd are these guessestiments. P8 John Boyd, b / /167x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), living 1701, bu , m ? [Lived: ] - Details? This John Boyd was living in 1701 according to John Boyd [N3/O3] Will of 1701. So in the “Clanbrassil John Boid Ards Ballyhamlin Half Down 1681” – could this be the above John Boyd? With this John Boyd being born in the 1660’s or early 1670’s, would he have been old enough to have been listed in 1681? - In Email 2-139S.doc # 144 to the New Windsor Group Lena McVea has said that John Boyd of Quaterland is this John Boyd and son of David Boyd [O2] and Margaret Kennedy of Glastry. “From VOLUME 15, Ballyhalbert Graveyard, we have:- “Grave #1 John Boyd, Quarterland, died 28-3-1719 aged 80 years [Born 1639] Janet (wife) died 3-8-1723 aged 76 years” In an Email to the New Windsor Group on 27 May 2016, Lena Mcvea (see 2-139R.doc # 92) said “Left to right 1.John Boyd of Quarterland, 2.a Kennedy grave, 3. A Kennedy 4. (Small one) James Boyd of Ballyesburgh, “ So if “families” were often buried together in the same grave or group of graves should this James Boyd in Grave #2 be a son of this John Boyd in Grave # 1? “Grave #2 from Volume 15, James Boyd, Ballyesbrugh, died 24-7-1743 aged 73 years Janet Boyd (wife?) (alias Sampel) died 3-7-1739 aged 76 years This would provide a “strong indication” that this James Boyd in Grave # 2 is the son of John Boyd of Quarterland WHOM SEEMS TO BE THE SON of David Boyd and Margaret Kennedy. However this would require additional evidence to confirm this. So if we can now accept that the John Boyd, who died 28 March 1718 at aged 80 “is the son and eighth child of David Boyd and Margaret Kennedy of Glastry” then all of Colonel David Boyd’s known draft family will have to be moved forward an estimated 30 years to what is currently to be believed to be the case. And it might also mean that the Boyds of Ballyesbrugh and perhaps even Rowreagh are descendants of this John Boyd of Quaterland who died in 1719. If you can supply any further information to this family I would like to heat form you please. Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust.
