    3. Hi Mike, Thank you! We have been concerned about you, and are thankful that you are alright. Of course, we think about all who have been touched by these floods, and hope there will be better days ahead. Phyllis Riviere -----Original Message----- From: boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mike Boyd Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 6:52 PM To: BOYD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOYD] Floods in Queensland As many of you will have seen over the last three weeks or so, quite a number of regions in the south and up to the central Queensland have been flooded. On Monday afternoon, there was a cloud bust at Toowoomba, about 100 kms west of Brisbane - in which 10 people were killed because the water rose so quickly. This water, which is several time larger than Sydney Harbour, came to Ipswich yesterday and peaked this Morning in Brisbane with a King Tide. I think that in Ipswich some 3,000 houses went under - with some having the water going over their roofs. In Brisbane, the next local council area, down the river, they think that some 40,000 homes and businesses have been flooded. Our CBD is a ghost town at present, as it has been flooded and they had to turn off the electricity. Our part of town is very nice and dry. But yesterday when I went to my local fruit shop they said that they will most likely close today for a week because fruit and vegetables will not be able to get into Brisbane, as most of our Highways are covered with water. They expect that some people may not be able to live in their homes for up to 6 to 12 months, as many will have to rebuilt inside before people can live in them. While I do not know of any Boyds being in trouble, I expect that there are some Boyd cousins out there that will have had to take up swimming lessons quickly in the last few days. 3. Jean I was just checking where the 13 children of James Boyd and Phebe Webster were born. I have the first one born in Va in 1798 and the other 12 in KY - with about listed as being born in Bracken County, KY. This was formed in 1795 from Campbell and Mason Counties. However, I noticed in the subsitute Census for KY that there were these Boyd listed for Bracken Co., KY BOYD,James KY Co:Bracken Twp:Unknown BOYD,John KY Co:Bracken Twp:Unknown BOYD,Samuel KY Co:Bracken Twp:Unknown BOYD,Thomas KY Co:Bracken Twp:Unknown BOYD,William KY Co:Bracken Twp:Unknown However, I am not sure if they had any connectioin to the family of James Boyd and Phebe Webster. James's eldest son was called John Boyd. So PERHAPS the second entry of John Boyd, might be James's father, with perhaps 4 brothers. Does anyone have any data on these Boyd families? 1. Re: [BOYD] Kevin Boyd b.1955 to James Boyd b 1751
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. Jean Good that you are advertising your family and this blockage. Culpeper County, Va was formed in 1748 from Orange County, VA - with both being in the Northern part of Virginia. From the County map it would appear to be on a river that runs directly into the Ocean. So this raises the QUESTION did James Boyd family come directly from Overseas to Culpeper County, VA or were they part of the MIGRATION out of PA? Walter Boyd, the State Historian for VA may have some knowledge on where the Boyds of Culpeper County, VA came from. There is no 1790 VA Census to check if the family were still there in 1790. The details I have on James Boyd and Phebe Webster are:- U1 James Boyd, b 5/8/1751 ( , Culpepper Co.,VA), d 20/1/1852 ( , Switzerland County Indiania), bu , m / /179x (church, town, county, VA), Phebe Webster, dau of and (nee ) Webster, b / /1778 ( , VA), d 2/6/1865 ( , Switzland Co., Indiana), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - [RAN ISYS CHECK ON SPOUSES NAMES FOR CHILDREN BUT COULD NOT FIND ANY MATCHES] - With James being about 47 years old when he married Phebe Webster, it does raise the question if he was married previously. He is not in the DAR 1990 Patriot Index. Suggested to group may need to look at Virginia Substitute Index for 1790 and or the Census for 1800, 1810 and 1820 to see if any additional children in his household. While other sources say that James was married in 1797 Vivian Chase in a E-mail to me on 18 December 2002 James Boyd and Phebe Webster were married in Bedford Co., VA, From VA marriage list we have these James Boyd's in Bedford Co., VA. BOYD,James GILBERT,Hannah 1779 Bedford Co. BOYD,James WEBSTER,Phebe 1797 BOYD,James STEVENSON,Jane 25 Feb 1772 Bedford Co. BOYD,James GIBSON,Hannah 08 Sep 1779 Bedford Co. As you may know that Bedford County is in the South Western section of Virginia, so I am not sure if he may have made one or several moves "west" to get land to farm. With this age gap of some 47 years before James was married ALSO RAISES QUESTIONS. We know that he had 13 children with Phebe Webster. So was this James Boyd married previously - unlikely by the number of children. Therefore, I would question if this James Boyd who married Phebe Webster in 1797 is the same James Boyd who was born in Culpeper Co., Va in 1751. Do any members of the list have any views? 3. Hi all, I find this thread about VA and KY Boyds interesting. I don't have anything to contribute at this point, but I will looking for possible connections to my Boyd. If anyone is interested, my family tree file is at http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lboyd/. I would be especially interested if any males descendants (certain or speculated) of these VA and KY Boyds has done the Y-DNA test? Thanks, Larry H. 3. You can read this book Prairie Farmer's directory of Shelby County Illinois at www.archive.org. Type in this books title to check it out. Type in "see other formats" to read online. I don't understand why the Charles Boyd (1913) is there. >From this book, I found listed.... It's from the Farmers and Breeders of Shelby Co. section in this book. I believe wives and children's names are listed. Boyd, John W. (Rose Jameson) Ch Edna, Paul, James Jr., Westervelt Ridge Sec22 T101a Charles Boyd (1913) Tel. Westervelt Boyd, Robert L. 3. Darlene When I stayed with Lauren last year, she did mention a Hotel in Las Vegas which was not too expensive - sorry can't remember the name of it. I think it started with an F.- just suffering form an information overload from that trip. I think it would be "best" if all those going to Las Vegas, could stay in the one place, but the price range of the Hotel selected will determine that. Lauren, can you provide Darlene with the name of the Hotel you were thinking of. Then we can work out a group price and how we get to and from Tom Boyd Stadium, etc It has been suggested to me that I should stay at the Boyd Tent, so I will need a group of people who can go to other Clan tents to see if any Male or Female Boyd's have married into their Clan during these two days. 2. Mike Boyd
    3. I have had server conjunctivitis since the Wednesday after Christmas, so my reading has been restricted and time on the PC. So I am hoping that I can bring my Tuesday appoint with the Doctor to Monday. I am planning to go to Las Vegas on the Thursday evening, 14 April. Perhaps a look around Las Vegas on Friday morning and early afternoon. Then about 5 or 6 pm on Friday (15 April) to undertake a talk on Boyd history. I assume that this will be done at the Hotel Members will be staying in. >From the experience of my 2010 Tour of the USA, this will last about 3 hours. I have no idea how many Boyd or Boyd Researchers may live in Las Vegas or people will come into Las Vegas for the Highland Games and Celtic Gathering. Lauren, do members wanting to go to these Games, should we make a "bulk" booking at a single hotel? Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    3. Susan >From a Boyd family that came from Coleraine, County Londonderry, Ireland to Australia - I thnk in the 1820's as a convict - we have this Boyd/Eccles connection S1 Alexander Boyd, b 1782 [1], d 4/8/1853 [1], m 18xx, Margaret Eccles, dau of Samuel & Jane (nee Nendenhui?) Eccles, bc 1788 [1], d /3/1834, bu Devonshire Street or Town Hall Cemetery, and had issue:- [Lived : Sydney, NSW ] So you will have to make a list of the various spelings for "Ecels" to see if you can make any connection with those names. Even in the late 1800's a MIGRATION from Georgia to Illinois seems strange to me. But with Boyd families you can't tell where they migrated to (and from). With Charles T Boyd who married Sarah Spidel Lawhorn - do you have his death certificate? And what information does that provide? The various Census records for Selby Co., ILL may tell you where he was born - perhaps State - and where his parents were born to help you confirm or disprove the link to the Ancestry Tree that you have found. The information on the marriage record lists grooms parents as Charles T. Boyd and Lucy Ecels (as transcribed by the clerk at courthouse. I as not allowed to view the actual log book). Brides parent was listed as Husan Wright (another transcription - census records show the name as Hiram Wright). They were both residents of Herrick Township, Shelby County Illinois. Witnesses were Drake Spidells and Susan Spidells (as transcribed). I have found a Charles T. Boyd, born in Georgia, married to a Hannah Montague on an Ancestry Tree. The Ancestry Tree also lists children of Hannah and Charles T. Boyd as Charles T. and Lucy B. Hopefully some of this information will connect with another Boyd somewhere. Help would be appreciated.
