Dr. Keith Edward Boyd (79), beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, in Gilbert, AZ. Boyd was born May 3, 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT. Boyd graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1955 and went to work for Lockheed. Boyd was hired to teach at the UofU one year later. While on the faculty, Boyd, with his brother Bill, started a company called Research Engineering. Boyd graduated with a M.S. degree in Natural Sciences and then shortly after, moved to Arizona to attend ASU, where he earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. Boyd worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the Aeronautical industry through the remainder of his career, while serving as adjunct faculty at ASU for many years. Boyd returned to teaching at Chandler/Gilbert Community College after retirement. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Boyd served as Stake Mission President for the Scottsdale Stake, on the High Council, in the Bishopric for the Scottsdale Third Ward, and was the Family History Specialist, among other callings. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, sister, Bonnie, brother, Bill, and five children, Kathy (Mike Gannon), Keith, (Lark Boyd), Leslie, Richard (Carol Ann Boyd), Carol (David Foster). He was also the grandfather of 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandsons, including Brigg Edward Boyd, born on the day of his passing. Viewing will be held for family and friends Thursday, February 17, from 6-8 pm at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa AZ 85201. Funeral services will be Friday, February 18, 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Ward, 2618 N. Lindsay Rd, Mesa AZ 85213, with a viewing just prior at 9 am. Burial will be in the City of Mesa Cemetery.
Larry Can you give the source or reference for this data please. And did it tell you how the person's was that was providing data from his grandfather's Bible. Secondly, while I do not directly have any Boyds from Germany, it does not surprise me Elizabeth Boyd could have been born in Berlin, Germany. I think that you will find quite a number of Boyd families in many of the European Countries over time - even going back to the 1400's or before. We all know the story of Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran, going back to Denmark in 1469 after he had relieved the King's bride. While France seems to have been a place for "forced holidays" when various Boyd picked the wrong side in Scottish Conflicts. We also had quite a number going there for University studies as well. Hopefully, the snow has now cleared in USA and other northern hemisphere countries, so people can get to their libraries. JUST REMEMBER TO TELL THE LIST WHEN YOU FIND ANOTHER BOYD FAMILY THAT IS NOT YOURS. In August 2008, Donna - I think of KY - was looking for a Carey Boyd who was born about 1810. When Michelle and I were in Abington, we visited the Historical society Library and the Abington Library. One of the covers that I copied was the Revised Version The Days of Caney Boyd, by Jimmy Webb and Robert Porter. The was no date or ISBN number on this book that I made a note of. So could Donna's Carey Boyd have been A MISSPELLING for Caney Boyd. Thank you Mike Boyd

Levi Boyd was living in Monroe County as can be seen from a court case: No.766)(75) Filed 26 Sep 1862 F.M. Avens vs Levi Boyd. While Avans was in Va. in Confederate service Boyd persuaded Avan's wife (his daughter) to remove to his home where she stayed 2 mos. and at that time Boyd sold Avan's wagon. Before the AGM on 16 or 17 April 2011 at Las Vegas, I would like to be able to appoint more State Historians in both the USA and Canada. In the USA, I would like to build on the State Historians that we have in CT, PA, MD, NC, SC and VA. So I am looking at States like:- Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee Kentucky, Indiana Ohio and West Virginia While in Canada Provinces like British Colombia, Ontario and perhaps Nova Scotia. The Role for an State Historian is work with a State Convenor and are:- (i) To advertise on the various County Net list about the Boyd Net list and the House of Boyd as a place to do your research for outside the County; to follow migration trails and to be able to fit into known Boyd families; (ii) To ask the Boyd list who has what family in each County within the State and maintain a list of such Boyd families; (iii) Work out when the first Boyd came to the State; (iv) To collect people researching Boyd families from FHS and other published lists; (v) Work with Chairman of Historical Committee to build some knowledge of Boyd families within the State; (vi) Linking with other Clans Associated with Boyd connections; (vii) Collect and maintain a list of Books on Boyd families or Boyd references; (viii) To work with Historical Committee, to put Boyd families into Clan Boyd of Scotland to build the Clan Pyramid; (ix) In some US States it may be necessary organise County Boyd Historians because of the number of Boyd families in that County or group of Counties. (such as in PA and VA) (x) Other History/Tree? So if you have a hour or two a week that you can give to helping to build up interest, and knowledge about Clan Boyd and its members, I would like to hear from you please. I could talk to you more about this role at Las Vegas, Greensboro or perhaps one of the other venues that I will be talking at. This will allow me to get on with about 20 other major Boyd Projects. Thank you Mike Boyd
When I was in one of the Libraries in California in October 2010, I found a book on Bells. One section has a large for Captain Robert Bell (1722-1816) m (first) Catherine Walker ( - 1770) and (second) Mary Boyd. The was no date for the second marriage but I would estimate from the children's birth in the second marriage, that this took place about 1774. "A native of Caswell County, NC, Robert Bell had moved to Guilford County prior to the Revolution and settled "about nine miles" from Guilford Courthouse. He married Catherine Walker, probably in the early 1760's, and had become the father of six children before his wife died early in the 1770's. He later married Mary Boyd and sired thirteen more children. Following the Revolution, he and his brother Samuel joined the throng of emigrants who moved into central Tennessee. Robert's first home in Tennessee is said to have been north of the Cumberland River. Captain Bell was given a North Carolina Land grant for 2,568 acres in Tennessee." I know when I was sorting these papers that I saw a son or grandson married a daughter of Daniel Boone. I have not had time to go back to find this specific reference to find out where this marriage took place. Because Captain Bell was living in Guilford County, NC, it would SUGGEST that this Mary Boyd was from the family of one of the two Sons of George Boyd of Chester Co., PA who had moved to the Dan River at South Boston in the 1740's. So if there are any members of the list that have a Mary Boyd marrying Robert Bell in the 1770's in NC, I would like to hear form your please. Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
I am trying to work out my talking tour program after the Las Vegas Games which finishes on Sunday 17 April before I fly to the upper mid - West and/or Ontario Canada While on the Friday evening (TTBD) I will give an 3 hour talk on the history of the Boyd from 1111 AD, I do not have anything at this stage planned for Sunday night after the Games. So the question is (after I get a meal) will people want to talk to me on the Sunday night about "their" family at the Hotel? I expect that I will fly out of Las Vegas Monday morning to a venue East of the Mississippi. Thank you Mike Boyd
Came across this while researching another family. This is all the info I have. Note: this in not my grandfather. The following information is from my grandfather's Bible: W. A. Horton married Elizabeth Boyd in 1829 -- Elizabeth Boyd born 1809 in Berlin Germany William A. Horton, Jr. married Elizabeth A in 1854 (I believe this to be Amanda) M. T. Horton married Mary Rowe in 1874( This is your gg grandfather) H. M. Horton married Rosie Reeves in 1876 Maggie Horton married A. J. Reeves in 1876 W. J. Horton married Lizzie Blair in 1882 Isabelle Horton married Ed Heath in 1889 The area seems to be around Talledaga Co. Alabama. I found it interesting that the claim is she was born in Berlin, Germany. Hope this helps someone. Larry Horton
Charlene Denise McAllister has just advise me privately that there are 5 Volumes to this series and that she has already organised an interlibrary loan for these books. Hopefully then they can go on the HBS website for others to see what is available. W. P. Boyd in his book of 1912, said that the Boyd's came to the USA in the early 1700's - I think 1720's he mentioned. For quite some time I have known that this date was wrong but have not had time to both research and write up an article on when Boyds did settle in the USA. I know that there are Boyd listed in Connecticut in the 1680's; Maryland 1680's; South Carolina in 1695 (?) and in Virginia in 1641 (and I have found some others in later periods of the 1600's.) And these are the only one that we have found so far. So there is an NEED TO START the process of looking at what sources - both on paper and online - are available. Lauren, I think that you have been acting as webmaster - when you have time - so if people can identify existing website that will have Boyds migrating into A COUNTRY, can a "page" be set up on the HBS webpage to link these other sites? Michelle That seems strange. It was published by the Genealogical Publishing Co., Balitmore. So you would expect that it was in a Library or 2 at Balitmore plus the US Library of Congress. List, My apologies! Using the same site, and various zip codes as my location, my search results came up with only the Arkansas library, plus one in the UK. How weird! Glad you tried it, Denise! I did get very specific, using "The Famine Immigrants, List of Irish Immigrants Arriving at the Port of New York, 1846-1851, Volume 1 January 1846-June 1847" as my search term, so that may have made the difference. I'll remember to use a little more general search term from now on. In any case, I'm glad you all didn't take my word for it!! Last year when I was in Scotland I found the book Papers Relating to the Army of the Solemn League and Covenant, 1643-1647, which said under the Tweeddale Regiment, whose Colonel was the Earl of Buccleuch (from the Scott family),it lists under Lieutenants, 1644 Adam Boyd. It said the regiment was engaged at Marston Moor and the sieges of York and Newcastle 1644; Hereford 1645. So I assume that this was part of the Scots Army supporting the King against Cromwell. So could this Lt Adam Boyd have become Captain Adam Boyd in Ireland - whom I think is said to have died in 1649. The Tweeddale area would be around Melrose and the Tweed River area of the Borders. This is one of about 8 areas where Boyd families can be found. So MY GUESS IS THAT THIS LT. ADAM BOYD CAME FROM THIS LOCATION. Question is - could he be the same person who later became Capt Adam Boyd of Ireland and was the great grandfather of the Rev Adam Boyd of Chester Co., PA? This may give members of Capt Adam Boyd's family/descendants a new area to research. If you are going to do some research on this aspect please let the list know. Is anyone on the list related to Charles Boyd who was a surveyor in Colorado in the late 19th to early 20th century? He belongs to my Boyds (MD/VA/DC > Fox River Valley, Wisconsin). Kathy Manning Knoxville, TN
Lauren, Jeri Ann and others At the Games in Las Vegas, so we know if people will be able to do their DNA testing kit at the Games? If so, I would encourage all male Boyds to ensure enough in the budget that they save some money to do this valuable test so it is know form which Boyd Branch they may come form and how many generations they will have to work back on their paper trail. Thank you Mike Boyd
