A great many Boyd Obituaries here. http://www.ajlambert.com/cemetery/cmty_ckc1.pdf
During my trip to Scotland, Ireland and USA in 2010, I found the book Descendants of Reverend Thomas Higginson, written by Thomas Boyd Higginson, 1958. The book covers the family of Rev Thomas Higginson who married Mary Boyd, the daughter of Archibald Boyd. It would appear Rev Thomas was born about 1700, as he entered Trinity College, Dublin in 1718. However no date was given for the marriage of Rev Thomas and Mary. It only records 3 children being born to them - a small number for the period - William Higginson (no date), Boyd Higginson (b 1745) and Judith Higginson (b 1739). So I would estimate that there marriage took place in the mid or late 1730's. It is know that Rev Thomas Higginson was born in Ballinderry about 12 kms NW of Lisburn in County Antrim. It does not indicate when he joined the Church of Ireland and became a minister, but he was curate of Tickmacrevan (Glenarm) in 1728 and Curate of Cairncastle from 1731 to at least 1768. So I am assuming that this Mary Boyd's family came from eastern County Antrim from one of the Boyd families in the Larne to Glenarm area who I have not yet found. The family in the book spans 250 years. I would like to be able to contact the author of this book, Thomas Boyd Higginson, but from some of the references I assume that he has died some decades ago. So does anyone on this list know his children or grandchildren, so that I may be able to correspond with them about this family. ? Thank you. Mike Boyd Chairman House of Boyd Society
Howard I will dig out those papers and post both the first and second families of Captain Robert Bell. I can't recall from the quick look, if they give too much information on locations or not. If they do, it help link it back to the Boyd family as they most likely moved with, before or after the Bells to the same areas of TN. I am not sure who may pages there are on the 13 children of Robert Bell and Mary Boyd - but quite a lot. Mike Boyd Historical Committee. Lauren Have you been able to progress your talks with the first choice hotel in Las Vegas. If some thing can't be settled by this weekend do we look at the Boyd Gaming Hotel - if they have one? I am getting one inquiry per day about this. Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane HBS 423
There is a great website with a picture of a Thomas Boyd’s tombstone among others. It also gives names of various cemeteries. URL: http://www.4thmichigancompanya.com/cemetery/ TITLE: The 4th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Gravestone Picture and Locating Project. DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this website is to present pictures of the graves, and information about the soldiers, who served during the Civil War. Also, to make them accessible to interested persons. The site is being updated regularly. Pictures, as of now, have all been taken in the US, but we will include those buried in other countries, as they become available.
Lauren, I think that's a pretty good price for Las Vegas. My advice is to take it. And did it tell you how the person's was that was providing data from his grandfather's Bible. Secondly, while I do not directly have any Boyds from Germany, it does not surprise me Elizabeth Boyd could have been born in Berlin, Germany. I think that you will find quite a number of Boyd families in many of the European Countries over time - even going back to the 1400's or before. We all know the story of Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran, going back to Denmark in 1469 after he had relieved the King's bride. While France seems to have been a place for "forced holidays" when various Boyd picked the wrong side in Scottish Conflicts. We also had quite a number going there for University studies as well. Hopefully, the snow has now cleared in USA and other northern hemisphere countries, so people can get to their libraries. JUST REMEMBER TO TELL THE LIST WHEN YOU FIND ANOTHER BOYD FAMILY THAT IS NOT YOURS. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
Walter I will have to get some time this week to "try" and do some research on this Mary Boyd. What I found was quite a large family coving 250 years or so. I think for memory that I have data on the second Boyd family from Halifax County. It is just as bad as looking for a John Boyd when youhave a Mary Boyd to search for. Mike Boyd ----- Original Message ----- From: WYBoyd@aol.com To: mikejboyd@bigpond.com Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2011 2:12 AM Subject: Robert Bell/Mary Boyd Mike, I went back to my notes and do have a reference to Mary Boyd, born about 1754, as the second wife of Robert Bell, Sr. of Caswell County. It is claimed that she was the daughter of John and Rebecca Boyd, but I haven't been able to find any reference to her parents. In other words, I know of no grandson of George and Isabella Boyd named John who had a wife named Rebecca. As I've mentioned previously, there was another Boyd family in western Halifax County (the part that is now Pittsylvania County) in the mid-18th century, but I have not been able to link them to my Boyd branch. It is possible that Mary Boyd was the daughter of one of them since Robert Bell was from Caswell County and since it is due south of the part of Pittsylvania County where this Boyd family was living. The route we took from Greensboro to South Boston when you were here in October is directly along the route that Robert and Mary Boyd Bell would have followed when they migrated to Guilford County. It passes just to the east of the Guilford Court House area. Your mention of the Bell name and Tennessee triggered another Boyd memory. George Boyd Hopson, the great-grandson of John Boyd, Sr. (of Boyd's Ferry) was the physician to John William Bell of Tennessee, whose family is associated with the famous "Bell Witch," a very famous Southern ghost tale.
