Hi Boyds LOL I'm am trying to keep you all busy here! Like I said before, I am going through my collection of books looking for Boyds. As I find them, I will post. These books contain other names too, so if you want me to check for other names, just let me know. Hope this helps someone!! * Title Page * DEATH NOTICES FROM RICMOND, VIRGINIA NEWSPAPERS 1821 - 1840 Published by: The Virginia Genealogical Society Special Publication Number 9 There is in the introduction page: The notices have not been reproduced verbatim, but shortened in a manner to contain most of the pertinent facts. The words "wife" and "widow" have usually been substituted for the words "consort" and relict". Most readers of old newspapers know that "Instant" means this month and "Ultimo" means last month. The newspaper usually shortens these to "Inst." and "Ult." The notice was often written before the end of the month and labeled "Inst." and published early in the next month, so that Inst. is in error. Where we noticed, we have inserted: "(Ult.)" When dates are not given in the notice, they often say such things as "died last Wed." When last Wednesday's date is obvious from the date of the newspaper, it follows in parentheses, others it is omitted. The obituaries often contain other facts of interest that are too long to include. Here the statement, ("long obit.") is added. The original notice should be consulted where the reader is interested in other details or in the flowery eulogy that often accompanies a notice. This information was obtained from the newspaper and microfilm collections of The Virginia State Library. The names of the newspaper has been shortened to initials as found in the following key: RE = Ricmond Enquirer RW = Richmond Whit (semi-weekly and daily) RCW = Ricmond Constitutional Whit RC = Richmond Compiler (in some years called Richmond Courier & Compiler) VP = Virginia Patriot RDMA = Ricmond Daily Mercantile Advertiser VP & RDMA = Above two papers after merger RVT = Richmond Visitor & Telegraph Page: 32 Died in Mecklenburg Co. on 25th April, age 37, *Durell Boyd* of Arkansas, while on visit to his bro. in his native state. The DAR web site allows research by non-members, and shows the linage for each application made based on that specific individual. For example, here is the page for Andrew Boyd, b 1747, DAR Ancestor #A013001: http://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/?action=full&p_id=A01 3001 This page say that his wife was Sarah Ross. It shows two children, Jane married to JOHN C. GILLESPIE, and JAMES / [1] ELIZABETH POLK HENDERSON. You can then check each of the linages submitted to find descendants of each couple. (Unfortunately for me, no one has submitted an application on my specific Boyd line) John
Not sre if this will help anyone but the references listed for Andrew's information is as follows: PA Archives, 2nd Series, Volume 14, page 83 His DAR Number 78368 TPTW = They Passed Tat Way, Vol 1 A '78 = Ansearching News, year 78, (DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS IS?) SR 23-24 = DAR Annual Report to the Smithsonian Institute, Numbers represent year of Report (1897 to present) N.M. = Nashville Mounument - Erected by Tennessee Soc. Howard and Boyd cousins, perhaps this just muddies the waters more, but I have a Lettice Boyd in my files that could be the Lettice to which you refer below. This does not answer your question as to military service, but it's interesting nevertheless and it may help someone else. Henry Chambers and family arrived in PA ca. 1740, lived in Derry Twp., and moved to Iredell Co. NC in 1752. Henry was married to Jennet Baird, and they had a son named Robert, born 1742 while they were still in PA. In 1768, Robert married Jane Batey and then in 1776 he married Lettice Boyd. If your John Boyd died in 1750 and the Boyd and the Chambers family had both moved to Iredell, NC, is this Lettice John Boyd's widow? (Taken from files at the Capital Area Genealogical Society.) Charlene Boyd Kemp PA State Historian HBS In a message dated 2/19/2011 1:11:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, howard.jones@uni.edu writes: The Andrew Botd who lived in Maury Co. TN was the son of John Boyd and grandson of Robert Boyd who lived in Sadsbury Twp. Chester Co. PA. John died there in 1750 and in 1763, Andrew's siblings sold their shares of John's land and moved to Rowan (later Iredell) co. NC. Andrew stayed behind, presumably with his mother Lettice (maiden name unknown), but in 1770m sold his share, and by 1772 was in Rowan Co. For me, this raises a question as to whether the military service here belongs to a different Antw, although of course this one could have gone back to PA to enlist. Also, he was 30 years old and apparently still unmarried in 1777. However, I really would like to see proof that my Uncle Andrew was the soldier described. Howard V. Jones
During my trip to Ireland in 2010, I found this early reference to a Boyd in Armagh City, County Armagh. In the survey of 1618 it shows:- "Dermon Boy (name incomplete) holds two little houses, and gardens rent per annum 13 shillings and 4 pence." I am assuming that his name was Dermon Boyd. From the reference of two "little houses", I would assume that he was not very rich. However, it does point that Boyds were in the County of Armagh from an early period of the Plantation of Ireland. This County has not had much attention paid to it, so it could be another County that members may need to look at in Ireland when all they have is that their family came from Ireland or Ulster. Please let me know if you do trace you families back to this County. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

As you will be aware from recent Emails that Lauren has been busy earning money (which we all need). At this stage I AM ASSUMING that at Las Vegas, there will be an Clan March during the 2 days. Again I assume form my experience at Stone Mountain, this will be held on the Sunday and post likely after lunch. So what Clan Boyd cloths can or might people be dressed in for this Clan March. So is there someone, other than Lauren, who can advise members who are coming what might be worn. Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane Aust. HBS 423

Hi Fellow Boyds I have been going back through some books that I have that pertain to genealogy. As far as I know, I am not related to these Boyds. LOL I obtained these for decendents I have that are from Virginia. It just worked out that I found Boyds in here too. Hi: Yes, I have been busy trying to earn a living. It is Saturday morning and I am looking to see if there are any fires in my email in box..... so I will chime in. Others are certainly welcome to add to the discussion. As I recall, there IS a clan march at the Las Vegas games. Further, as I recall they are not as "stuffy" as some, requiring you be kilted to join in. HOWEVER -- that said ---- Wear our tartan! Any item, garment of Boyd tartan would show others the strength of our numbers at the event. If you don't have any Boyd tartan items -- there will be some, I am sure, for sale at the event. If you'd like to get a head start and have something in advance try a Scottish shop local to you or see John Higgins, Ltd. on line. <http://www.jhiggins.net/> It is too late to order a specially made kilt in time for this event, but you might consider ordering one to wear in the future. Wear your Boyd tee shirts!!! Don't have one? Talk to our Treasurer, Michelle Ligon. And now on to other things.....
