    1. [BOYD] Mike Boyd's talking Tour of USA - St Louis, MO
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. I will try once more to see if anyone in or near St. Louis, MO,or Southern Illinois can host a meeting of Boyds, so I can tell then about Boyd history form 1111 AD and also answer any question about researching their own Branch. During last years Tour of the US eastern seaboard States, most of these talks took 3 hours. When I check some weeks ago, I can get a flight out of Las Vegas on Monday 18 April and arriving in St Louis by early afternoon. At this stage the next meeting will be at Grand Rapids, MI. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    2. Mike Boyd
    3. List, my reading of this list is that there are 3 separate Boyd families. All three are new Boyd families to me, so they will need to go into Volume 25 for Boyd families in PA that Charlene is currently compiling. The second question is, do any members of this list belong to any of these three Boyd families? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS ----- Original Message ----- From: <Charivari2@aol.com> To: <Boyd@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 04, 2011 7:46 AM Subject: [BOYD] Montgomery Cnty. 3. List I know that there is one missing from the Chestnut Level Cemetery, (I think in Lancaster Co.) that Chris Smithson took me to to meet Charlene Kemp. Chris took some photos of this grave. If I recall correctly, it was a Thomas Boyd. Is that right Chris? If you know of any other Boyd, who fought in the War of Independence, could you let Charlene know please, so that later in the year we can send a updated list of Boyds to the DAR and their Lycoming Chapter DAR Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS ----- Original Message ----- From: <Charivari2@aol.com> To: <Boyd@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 04, 2011 7:42 AM Subject: [BOYD] Rev. 3. There is the Civil War soldiers and sailors website that might give you a lead http://www.civilwar.nps.gov/cwss/ there is footnote.com that is scanning records at the national archives in/near DC. (it is a pay site. The amount of information there is amazing and the price very reasonable but it tiresome to access. However it is the cheapest way to go to get service records. To narrow down if any of William Boyd or Joseph Boyds on the CWSS site above are yours, a good place to ask (be sure and give as much detail as you can such as wife's name, parents etc.) is the civil war board for Tennessee http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/tncwmb/webbbs_config.pl I've heard that Union enlistments required alot more details than Confederate so good luck and if you find him, would you post back the kind of info you found listed in a Union service record. Maybe there will even be a pension record..... Some people in TN served on both sides. I had to pick on my neighbor (in good fun) when his wife and I found one of his relatives that did so. :) Rhonda On Wed, Mar 2, 2011 at 3:01 AM, <boyd-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > > ______________________________________ > We are all FAMILY here. 3. Bill You may have two salutations hear:- A) That the James Boyd who died in 1823 is the FATHER of James Boyd who married Nancy Elliot, or B) That they are form separate Boyd families. C) While there typing mistake with the person reading "3" for the "8" Hard to work out if there is no marked grave. With their marriage in 1822 and Thomas Oliver Boyd's birth in 1828, you would expect perhaps another 3 children Boyd to them. So is there any evidence of that happening? I chapter 4/224 I have this Boyd family form Tuscarawas Co., OH:- S1 Robert Boyd, b 18xx, d 18xx, m 18xx, Catharine Creger, dau of Creger, b 18xx, d 18xx, and had issue:- [Lived: ] T1 John Wesley Boyd, b 22/7/1835 ( , Tuscarurras Co. Ohio), d 6/5/1889 (Monclova, Ohio), bu Swan Creek Cemetery, Montclova, Ohio, m 185x, Elizabeth Mason, dau of Mason, b 18xx ( ), dc 1863, and had issue:- m 2ndly c 1864, Malinda Keller, dau of Abraham and Barbara (nee ) Keller, b 15/10/1834 ( ), d 23/3/1887 (Tuscarurras Co., Ohio), bu and had issue:- At best this Robert Boyd MIGHT BE brother to your James Boyd who married Nancy Elliot. Over the years there have been a number of Boyd researchers looking at Tuscarawas County, OH. So hopefully one of those can identify this family for you. The several family chapters that I have for this County Do not have any James Boyd who died in 1823. 1. [BOYD] Mixed Blood Census
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. I received an query yesterday which listed it source as "the 1836 Michigan Mixed Blood Census". It provides us with a new family that did not appear to be known to previous writers on this family. This is the first time that I have heard of such an source. The older list members will recall various references with Boyds and Indian Tribes. We do not seem to any references for a while. So does this only apply to Michigan or did other US States also provide such sources? Where any such listed ever compiled for the Canadian Proivinces? Thank you. Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    3. Just realised that I forgot to ask list members about the brothers John Boyd and David Boyd. So is any list member researching these two? Or do they also occur in Buncombe Co., NC records? When I check the 1790 US Census I could only find these John Boyd but no David Boyd (So had David moved on or was he living with his brother as the head of the House) BOYD,John NC Co:Halifax Twp:Unknown BOYD,John NC Co:Chatham Twp:Unknown BOYD,John NC Co:Lincoln Twp:Unknown BOYD,William NC Co:Lincoln Twp:Unknown BOYD,John NC Co:Montgomery Twp:Unknown Can anyone identify which family any of these entries came from please Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Boyd" <mikejboyd@bigpond.com> To: "Mindy Householder" <minzgen@gmail.com>; <Boyd@rootsweb.com> Cc: <dawn1967@yahoo.com> Sent: Monday, February 28, 2011 10:27 AM Subject: Re: [BOYD] Ervin Taylor Worley and Lura Boyd - North Carolina,Buncombe C., Sandy Mush Creek > Mindy > > James Boyd was born in Ireland on February 4, 1769. 3. Mindy The details I have for this family from SANDY MUSH CREEK, BUNCOMBE Co, NC, as sent to by Dawn McCall in 2008 are:- [James Frances Boyd's grandfather] James married Annis WORLEY, daughter of Nathan WORLEY and Amanda ROBINSON. Annis was born 1810 in Buncombe County, NC. James Boyd was born in Ireland on February 4, 1769. The first record of him in Buncombe County, NC is in 1806 when he purchased 50 acres on Bee Tree Creek. Some family members believe he, along with two brothers, John and David, came to America by way of Charleston, South Carolina. James married Rachel McGill in Lincoln County, NC on December 18, 1794. Rachel was also born in Ireland on May 29, 1769. Most of their lives were spent in an area known as Sandy Mush Creek, now a part of Madison County, NC. Family historians and the will of James Boyd identify only two children, James Berry Boyd and Robert McGill Boyd. James married1 Rachel MCGILL in Lincoln County, NC. Rachel was born 29 May 1769 in County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. They had the following children: + 2 M i. James Berry BOYD was born 7 Aug 1798 and died Jul 1847. + 3 M ii. Robert McGill BOYD was born 23 Oct 1800 and died 18 Aug 1882. [James Frances Boyd's father] 2. James Berry BOYD (James) was born 7 Aug 1798 in North Carolina. He died Jul 1847 in Texas (Mexican War). 1840 US Federal Census - NC - Buncombe - Northern Division They had the following children: + 4 M i. Robert McGill BOYD was born 1833 and died 1 Apr 1908. + 5 M ii. James Francis BOYD was born about 1830 and died after 1899. + 6 F iii. Rachel Catherine BOYD was born about 1832. + 7 F iv. Mary Naomi BOYD was born about 1834 and died before 1870. + 8 F v. Annis Louisa BOYD was born about 1837. + 9 F vi. Violet Matilda BOYD was born about 1840 and died 1918. 10 F vii. BOYD. 5. James Francis BOYD (James Berry, James) was born about 1830 in Buncombe County, NC. He died after 1899. 1870 US Federal Census - NC - Madison - Township 7 They had the following children: + 27 F i. Laura BOYD was born 27 Oct 1849 and died 28 Jun 1949. + 28 F ii. Rachel Hasseltine BOYD was born 1851 and died 1918. + 29 M iii. Charlie BOYD was born about 1877. + 30 M iv. James W. BOYD was born Oct 1875. + 31 F v. Mary Charlotte BOYD was born 2 Mar 1869 and died 7 Apr 1953. + 32 F vi. Violet BOYD was born Mar 1861. + 33 M vii. Robert BOYD was born Apr 1861. 34 M viii. Berry BOYD was born Oct 1867. The 1994 IGI for the UK give only this entry with the birth date of 4 February 1769:- James BOYDE (M).............. B: 4 Feb 1769 B: 21 Aug 1848 Ba: 6940408 Father: James BOYDE Limerick, Limerick, Ireland E: 16 Jun 1909 SLAKE So: MARGET Mother: Grace MCGRAGER SP: 5 Feb 1974 LANGE So: I do know that there was a Boyd family in Limerick, who for memory are buried in a vault at the C of I Church in Limerick, but I can't recall how far back that family went. This LDS Batch number would be worth looking up to see it may link with any of the above families. I could not find any other children born to James Boyd and Grace McGrager (although I did try some common variation to the spelling of McGrager) but the above Batch number may provide that information for you. Although the IGI did have an family in London in the mid 1800's with this Batch number. Just be aware that because this James Boyd of Limerick as the same birth date as the James Boyd who is grandfather to James Frances Boyd does not mean that THEY ARE THE SAME PERSON. Happy searching in Limerick.
