    1. [BOYD] taking a name off the list
    2. Dear Boyd cousins, I've received a request about a problem that I don't know if we can "fix" or not. The late Sue Groom was referenced in a recent e-mail and now her husband is getting e-mails about the Boyds. Unfortunately, Sue passed away two years ago. She was like the late Linda Lawhorn in that she always had worthwhile contributions to the List and her work is still remembered. If you can, try to remember to not click on her e-address however. I would assume it's upsetting for her husband, who had contacted Nancy Neuman about it and it was forwarded to me. Charlene Boyd Kemp

    1. [BOYD] Pantang, Co Lancaster, PA
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. Could list members tell me where Pantang is or near in Lancaster County, PA. How far from Upper Octorara where the Rev Adam Boyd lived; or how far from Shippensburg, PA where the killed members of a Boyd family in 1756. I am trying to SEE IF I CAN LINK THIS FAMILY of Jane Boyd of Pantang, PA, who died in 1772, with other Boyd families that may have lived nearby. Thank you. Mike Boyd

    3. Their address is not subscribed.  I just searched the archives to find it. Please do NOT include: thegrooms@hotmail.com in any replies to posts to the list. IF you are referring to Sue's posts, please either do not quote the email address, or probably, more appropriately, make mention that she is deceased so that others do not write to the address she shared with her husband. IF you'd like to read Sue's posts to the list, you can search on her name or the above email address in the list archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index?list=boyd http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search?path=BOYD Yours Aye, Lauren Boyd List Admin On Sat, Mar 19, 2011 at 7:52 AM, <Charivari2@aol.com> wrote: > > Dear Boyd cousins, I've received a request about a problem that I don't > know if we can "fix" or not.  The late Sue Groom was referenced in a recent > e-mail and now her husband is getting e-mails about the Boyds. > Unfortunately, Sue passed away two years ago.  She was like the late Linda  Lawhorn in > that she always had worthwhile contributions to the List and her work  is > still remembered.  If you can, try to remember to not click on her  e-address > however. 2. Mike, I'm working on your Jane Boyd already to see what I can find. Paxtang is just a suburban area east of Harrisburg in central PA, about 45 minutes east of where I live. It's in Dauphin County now. Shippensburg is in Cumberland County and it's just about 15 minutes from my house. I was working in their genealogy research library last week. They have a very good one. Let me know if there is something specific you want to know about this Jane, or are you just trying to link her to her family of Boyds? In the meantime, I've got my files opened.......... 1. [BOYD] Margaret Boyd and James Miller and Link to Boyds of Paxtang, Lancaster Co., PA
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. A few days ago I got an inquiry from Robert Miller of Oregon, USA, who was looking for details of a James Miller who married Margaret Boyd and who were married sometime around 1760 in western Virginia. He mentions August County, VA and Rockingham Co., VA and that the family by 1780 were listed as land owners in Wolf Creek, Greenbrier Co., VA. So we have a migration path that I think a number of Boyd families followed. The only link I have been able to find is this entry, I was given about 15 years ago:- According to the book Pennsylvania Genealogies, William H. Egle, 1886, pp 113-119, there was this Boyd family:- "JANE BOYD OF PAXTANG, LANCASTER CO. WHE: Jane Boyd, widow, of Paxtang, died in 1772, leaving children as follows i. Margaret ii Mary iii Jane iv Martha In her will she mentions her sons-in-law, James Miller, James Means, James Anderson, William McWhorter, and Robert McWhorter. Also granddaughters Jane Means and Sarah McWhorter, James Burd and John Shell were the executors." So is the James Miller listed in the above query the same person as in Robert Miller's inquiry. Charlene Kemp (State Historian for PA) on your next visit to one of your Libraries, could you see if you can find this Egle book of 1886 and does it provide any details in the Will on the Miller children, so that you and Robert can match. Thank you. As you will note this does not tell us whom the Boyd husband was or any thing about his family. I do have some members of an William Boyd's family of Derry Township, Lancaster County that are noted as lining in Paxtang, so I will also send those details to Robert. Robert you way wish to do a goggle search on these 5 sons-in-law to see if you can find any data. Do any members of this list have any Boyds living in Paxtang, Lancaster Co., PA Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] No DNA Tent at Las Vegas Games 16 & 17 April
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. Yesterday I Emailed the organization if there would be an DNA tent at their games. I have just received this reply:- "No there is no organization signed up to have a DNA tent at the Las Vegas Games though I certainly agree it would be a good idea." >From the end of the comment, there may be a DNA tent in future Games at Las Vegas. So those Boyds who will be coming to Las Vegas, it seems that we will have to workout some other way for your to get your DNA testing done for male Boyd members Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    3. We individual clans discuss the various DNA Projects. I can have information on hand re DNA testing.... I generally do. It has not proved useful to cart the testing kits with us. Cal and I used to have some on hand for that. FTDNA was on site at The Gathering 2009 in Scotland and were swamped. I pitched in and worked their booth for nearly an hour. If any of you are planning to attend the Las Vegas Games and would like to have a DNA test kit there for you, let me know. I will contact my mtDNA cousin, Bennett Greenspan and have some sent. 2. Mike Boyd
    3. Mindy I have just checked my PC and could not find Abraham's name, so can only conclude it has not been posted before. So do any of our Tennessee cousins know this family? Mike Boyd Historical Committee ----- Original Message ----- From: Mindy Householder To: Boyd@rootsweb.com ; Mike Boyd Sent: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 3:20 AM Subject: ABRAHAM WEATHERLY BOYD, Came accross this and wasn't sure if this information has been shared before: Original data: Moore, John Trotwood. Tennessee, The Volunteer State, 1769-1923. Vol. 4. Chicago, IL, USA: S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1923. Tennessee the Volunteer State 1769—1923: Volume 4 ABRAHAM WEATHERLY BOYD, M. D. page 538 [p.538] On the 30th of October, 1899, Dr. Cullom was united in marriage to Miss Eva Spaulding Bellinger of Tonawanda, New York, and they have become the parents of two children: Isabella Payne, who is a student at Goucher College of Baltimore, Maryland; and Hale Ellicott, who is attending Yale University at New Haven, Connecticut. The family are members of the McKendree Methodist Episcopal church, South, and Dr. Cullom is serving on its board of stewards. His public spirit finds expression in his membership with the Nashville Chamber of Commerce and he is also connected with the Belle Meade Golf & Country Club and the Old Oak and Hermitage clubs. He is a Mason in high standing, belonging to Phoenix Lodge, to the Scottish Rite consistory and to Al Menah Temple of the Mystic Shrine. He is a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, a Greek letter fraternity, and his professional relations are with the Nashville Academy of Medicine, the Davidson County, the Middle Tennessee and Tennessee State Medical societies, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology & Oto-Laryngology, and he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also professor of ophthalmology and oto-laryngology in the medical department of Vanderbilt University. His fellow practitioners and the general public accord him a position of distinction in the field in which he is specializing, and while he never neglects his professional duties, Dr. Cullom has also found time to promote the interests of his city along material and moral lines. Dr. Abraham Weatherly Boyd, a member of the medical profession at Chattanooga, who in recent years has devoted his time and efforts to a mastery of the disease known as pellagra, becoming a recognized authority in this branch of medical science, was born in Bradley county, Tennessee, March 16, 1860. His father, John Wesley Boyd, was a native of McMinn county, Tennessee, and a wagon maker by trade. In the days of the secession movement he was a strong union man but when the state decided to leave the Union he felt it to be his duty to follow the commonwealth. His service in the southern army, however, so exasperated some of the other Union sympathizers that they brought about his assassination in 1864. He was a son of Micajah and Mary (Barbe) Boyd and the latter was a daughter of Colonel Abraham Barbe of McMinn county, who organized a company of cavalry for service in the War of 1812. Both the Boyd and Barbe families were pioneer planters of Tennessee, descended from still older pioneer families of other states and both were represented in the struggle for American independence. Abraham Weatherly Boyd of this review was educated in the schools of Bradley county, Tennessee, and of Murray county, Georgia, until he had completed his public school course, while later he pursued a collegiate course in Athens, Tennessee. He next became a student in the medical department of the University of Georgia and was graduated with the M. D. degree in 1885. Two years later he took a postgraduate course in the New York Polyclinic and throughout his professional career he has remained a close and discriminating student of medical science. He entered upon practice as a general physician and surgeon and won creditable success in that field but during the last few years has been devoting all of his time and talent to the study of pellagra, a disease which has been scourging the south and which up to a few years ago was unknown to the profession as to cause or cure. Dr. Boyd's researches, however, have resulted in the discovery of a cure in connection with which he has established a laboratory for its manufacture. In this respect his work is of vast benefit to his fellowmen, his contribution to medical science being most valuable. In 1897, in Whitfield county, Georgia, Dr. Boyd was married to Miss Ella Wells, a daughter of Dr. W. B. and Mary (Pope) Wells, the former a surgeon of the Confederate army during the Civil war and afterward a leading and successful practitioner of surgery in Chattanooga. Her ancestors in both the paternal and maternal lines were prominent in the several communities in which they lived. One of the family was the Hon. D. H. Pope, a distinguished attorney of Albany and a brother of Mrs. Wells. Mrs. Boyd died from an accident, in March, 1922. She was at one time president of the Francis M. Walker Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and president of the St. Elmo Book Club. She also occupied the presidency of the Parent-Teachers' Association of Chattanooga and was a lady of marked popularity and prominence in connection with the social as well as civic interests of the city. By her marriage she became the mother of one son, David Huel, who was educated at the Baylor school, at the Georgia Military Academy and at the Bliss Electrical School of Washington, D. C. He enlisted for service in the World war in April, 1917, was sent to Fort Oglethorpe, [p.539] where he remained until the 12th of December, and was then transferred to Fort Bliss, Texas, where he continued until September, 1918. He was sent to the Signal Officers' Training Camp at Camp Meade, Maryland, and commissioned a lieutenant in December of that year. He still holds his commission in the Officers Reserve Corps, being attached to the Eighty-first Reserve Division. He is a charter member of the David King Summers Post of the American Legion and is a member of the Jonathan W. Bachman Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He is likewise a Master Mason and member of the Royal Arch chapter. His business connection is that of secretary of the Boyd Medicine Company. During the World war, Dr. Boyd participated in all the Liberty Loan drives and much war work. He is a democrat, active in support of the party yet never an aspirant for office. He holds membership in the Christian church, also in the Masonic fraternity, in which he has attained the Knight Templar degree of the York Rite and is a Noble of the Mystic Shrine. Along professional lines he has membership in the Hamilton County, Tennessee State and American Medical associations and through the proceedings of these bodies he keeps in touch with the trend of modern professional thought and progress. 1. [BOYD] ABRAHAM WEATHERLY BOYD,
    2. Mindy Householder
    3. Came accross this and wasn't sure if this information has been shared before: Original data: Moore, John Trotwood. *Tennessee, The Volunteer State, 1769-1923*. *Vol. 4.* Chicago, IL, USA: S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1923. *Tennessee the Volunteer State 1769—1923: Volume 4 ABRAHAM WEATHERLY BOYD, M. D. page 538* [p.538] On the 30th of October, 1899, Dr. Hope this helps someone. Mindy

    3. Larry The data I have on this Thomas Boyd is:- U3 Thomas Boyd, b 10/3/1761 ( , York Co., PA), d 12/10/1847 ( , Callaway Co., Missouri), bu , m 1/1/1787 ( , Burke Co., NC), Grezella Allen, dau of John and Margaret (nee ) Allen, b 20/8/1763 ( , York Co.?, PA), d 18/8/1845 ( , Callaway Co., Missouri), bu , and had issue:- You will note the marriage of 1787. Plus you will also notice that there are more than 2 years gaps between some of the children which could have meant that a child died in infancy. When you say 7 children, I assume you are counting 2 John Boyd's? So what data do you have on the first John Boyd?
