I'm laughing at the thought of Mike's hat travelling around the country without Mike. Oh, the endless possibilities! I will not ever have the opportunity of seeing Mike again. I have regretted the fact that more people didn't get to meet him while he was in Connecticut. He is such a charming, knowledgeable historian, and ones who do not take advantage of the opportunity to meet him lose the chance of a lifetime. Well here if is nearly midnight. I awoke at my sister's house in Greenock, McKeesport, PA about five o'clock to the aroma of brewing coffee. Mike awoke later having neglected to set his alarm. After a quick bowl of cereal and cups of coffee, we set out for Lexington, KY and Judith Spears at 7:00. We connected about 1:30 after confusion over which exit 113 we needed to find. It was the shortest six and a half hour trip I have ever made. Folks, if you do not make an effort to avail yourselves of this opportunity to learn about our Boyd history, you will someday be so sorry. In spite of a torrential downpour and a 30 minute delay due to an 18 wheeler wreck, I arrived in time for the event in Greenwood, IN. I will meet Mike again May 3 in Knoxville, TN for an open meeting and carry him to Nashville, TN for another. What a wonderful thing it is , for Mike to travel here and talk with so many. Many thanks are due to him. Big thanks also go to all those involved in the planning and execution of this trip. I know that also took many hours on the part of some and days were volunteered by others. Lucky those who were close enough to take advantage. Diane

The account has been compromised. I have notified the subscriber. Some of you will also receive the message privately from her. There was no subject line for the messages that were sent from her account. It is possible that malware may be contained in the message, more likely from the link in the message. Hi all Wow what a weekend. Meet Marla in Ohio and traveled with Mike to Western Pennsylvania. We were lucky and spent one day in the Washington County, PA library, one day in the Elizabeth Historical Society and Monessen Library Meeting. Easter day in deep discussion over the information we had found and their connection to the various Boyds. We collected alot of information that has to be sorted out too. My family was amazed at our conversations over the Boyds. Mike and Dave left Pennsylvania to travel to Pikeville, KY today. Mike Boyd visited Troy, OH from April 19th through the 22nd, and presented his history talk on the 20th from 6 to 9:00 pm at the Troy Hayner Cultural Center. There were nine people in attendance, several of which were BOYD researchers. The others came to gather and learn general genealogical info. Most considered themselves fairly experienced, but Mike was able to ask questions and get them to think and delve deeper. Before and after the meeting Mike spent much of his time at the Local History Library in Troy where he connected with the curator, Patrick Kennedy, and found leads on a great many Boyd families with Miami County, OH connections. Mike spent several days staying with Marla Fair and her husband, David, in their townhouse located on the public Square in Troy, OH, which is a historic community with many of its downtown buildings dating to the 1840s. Marla and Mike spent hours asking and answering questions concerning her own Boyd connection; the mysterious William Boyd whose wife, Nancy Cain (or Kane) Boyd, left him and went to America taking their 4 year old daughter Margaret Boyd with her. Thanks again to Mike for coming to the Dayton area and for sharing his extensive knowledge. Marla Fair, Troy, OH Hi, Today Mike Boyd visited Grand Rapids, Michigan and gave his history talk to a goup of 10 people. It was the perfect way to spend a cold rainy day. Mike talked for almost 4 hours, sharing the history of the Boyd family and also giving advice to individuals about how to research their own line. Even though we had a mix of novice and experienced family historians, I think that everyone learned something new...I know I did! It was a very successful meeting and we are thankful to Mike for making Grand Rapids a stop on his tour. After his talk, we went out for lunch with Roger Moffat of the Western Michigan Genealogical Society. The WMGS co-sponsored Mike's talk by helping with advertising and provided a lovely room for us to use. Roger Moffat is responsible for the genealogy portion of the Moffat Clan website and we talked quite a bit about how to use their technology to get Mike's vast records onto a website for all to use. My husband Clint and I were very excited about taking on that challenge and will be discussing it further with Mike. I highly recommend that you try to attend one of Mike's talks if you have not done so before. After researching our Boyd line for 10 years, I thought that I knew a lot about the Boyd history. But, Mike amazed us all with his wealth of knowledge and the way that he was able to cite so many dates and names without using notes. After listening to Mike, I have some new ideas of where to look next with our research. It is presumed that John was not the son of William. Does anyone else have any other information on this John Boyd that settled in Manor of Maske? We are trying to establish the relationship between William, John, and Thomas Boyd. Mindy and Mike

Yes. There were at least four branches of Presbyterian establishing churches: Church of Scotland, Presbyterian Church N.IRE, and then the Associate Presby and Reformed (these two branches broke from the CoS as a protest, among which included the Church-State and piety). If you are looking at the Marsh Creek area around current day Gettysburg, Upper Marsh Creek is current day Gettysburg PCUSA, Lower Marsh Creek still exists as it was founded. These were Ulster-Scot congregations, and mainline. Then there was an Assosciate and a Reformed congregation in the area. They merged into the mainline congregations back in the 40s or 50s, I think. The Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia is the national archive and has the originals records for all congregations, including these two and this denominations that merged through unions. Their website has an online catalogue search and can provide a taste if what is archived... and are willing to do simple searches.
