The Iowa Recorder Greene, Iowa Publication Date: Wednesday, August 2, 1944 Page: 1 LONG ILLNESS FATAL TO IRVING BOYD OF GREENE SATURDAY Life-Long Resident of Bennezette Township Untile Three Years Ago Died in Des Moines Hospital Irving Boyd, age 69, well known retired farmer of Greene, died at a Des Moines hospital Saturday afternoon about 4:30 o'c lock following an extended illness. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Hann Funeral home and burial was held at Rose Hill cemeter. The Rev. I. J. Deines, pastor of the Greene Lutheran Chruch, was in charge of the service. Mr. Boyd, a life-long resident of Bennezette township, until he moved to Greene three years ago, had been in failing health for nearly 10 years. He had been under medical care at the Mason City clinic, the Mayo clinic, Rochester, Minnesota and at Hot Springs, Arkansas, at different times. He re-entered the Des Moines hospital, where he had been a patient about six weeks last winter, on June 19, where he remained until his death. Mr. Boyd was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Boyd, early residents of Bennezette township, and was born October 3, 1874, in a log cabin. He attended a rural school near his home. He was married to Hattie Scheuneman July 31, 1914, and the couple operated the farm on which Mr. Boyd was born until the couple retired and moved to Greene in 1941. Surviving are Mrs. Boyd and two daughters, Clarene and Charmayne. Mr. Boyd was the last of seven children. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by Annie Boyd, William Boyd and Samuel Boyd, all of whom died in their youth. Robert Boyd of Bennezette township, Isabel Boyd of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Fred Boyd of Dubuque. To the best of my knowledge this gentleman is not in my line. Just wanted to share with list. Mindy
What about dates for: (5) Francis "Frank" Marson Boyd (death certificate reads only Frank Boyd) Emma H Miles (4) Carl Joseph Boyd Josephine R Gribble (3) Claude Edward Boyd Dorthy V Bender John & Kathleen -----Original Message----- From: boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Steven Boyd Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2011 12:03 PM To: boyd@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BOYD] Looking for info on Robert Kirkpatrick Boyd Hello Cousins, Wow the divorce info was new info so thank you. The mystery still persists as many of you have experienced I want to know how I am a Boyd? I don't know for sure that Francis "Frank" Boyd is related to R.K Boyd but all indications are that he is? For those of you who want to get involved in the search here is the lineage: (6) Robert K Boyd ?? (unverified, searching for death certificate) Lucinda Rush ?? (5) Francis "Frank" Marson Boyd (death certificate reads only Frank Boyd) Emma H Miles (4) Carl Joseph Boyd Josephine R Gribble (3) Claude Edward Boyd Dorthy V Bender Generations 3,4,5 are confirmed through birth and death certificates, generation 6 is where the mystery begins because the 1860 census shows R.K. was born in Ohio as was Lucinda, it does confirm they had a son about the age of ten named Francis M and that he was born in Missouri. This is the only evidence I have located to confirm the connection. If any of you are interested I would like to obtain further evidence and more importantly a link to Robert Kirkpatrick Boyd's parents or siblings. Thanks in advance for all your help, much appreciated. Christopher and Joe, All I have is a death certificate for my great grandfather Carl Joseph which lists "Frank Boyd" as the father. Based on 1860 census records, approx date of birth and location the Ancestry.com and Rootsweb searches matched to a Francis M Boyd? It is at this time I am awaiting a death certificate for Francis Boyd which will hopefully confirm relation if I can locate it? The understanding I have is that MO was not keeping birth certificates or death certificates until 1910, so family members born during the 1800's have to rely upon family bibles, churches and historical records to verify or confirm information. I am hoping that some cousin out there may have a connection to the Ohio Boyd's (if they exist) and could shed light on who he was and other research information. Regards, Steven
Hello Cousins, Wow the divorce info was new info so thank you. If it is true that RK and Lucinda divorced sometime in the 1860's, I found a Robert K Boyd in the 1880 Census Utica, Livingston County, Missouri. His birth is listed as 1817 in Ohio. His wife is Mary 20 years his junior. She was born 1838 in Tennessee. 3 children Harriet E., Margaret E., and Samuel E.,all born in Missouri and during the 1870's. Step Son John F. Richardson age 20 born in Missouri. This is a good possibility that Robert remarried. Dear Cousins: This list is now set to auto-reply to the list. Watch your addressee line. When replying to an individual only, be sure you don't have the list address also included. This can save some embarrassment at times! There is no longer a need to use the "reply all" feature to ensure the reply goes to the list. Most messages should be replied to onlist. Private replies regarding genealogy posted should be the exception, rather than the rule. However, you will probably want to keep any exchanges of address and phone numbers to private messages -- *remember all the messages are archived in a worldwide forum.* I have requested the Gateway between the Board and the List be opened. It will happen when David gets a chance to act on the request. I will let you know when I begin to release board messages to the list. I likely will do that on a weekly basis as I do on the Stewart list. It can help keep confusion to a minimum and you will be forewarned, so to speak, when to expect/anticipate Gateway messages hitting the list --- requiring you to visit the Boyd Board (either via Rootsweb OR Ancestry) to respond to the author of the post. There is a link to the board post in each Gatewayed message. The gateway works one way. Board to list. It does not send list messages to the Board. You *will* need a User ID and account to post to the board if you don't already have one. However --- the account is FREE. You will NOT have to pay any fees to use the message board to reply. Do check the automatic privacy setting (for your Rootsweb/Ancestry accounts) to ensure you allow people to view your encrypted email address -- otherwise they will have to have a PAID Ancestry subscription to contact you regarding your BOARD post if they want to email you privately.... (directly, not via the list). I don't mean to confuse you. If you have questions about how this works, email me at Boyd-Admin@rootsweb.com and I will save the questions and post the Q/A to the list so that all will have benefit of the response(s). Truly --- it is easier than it sounds. Just slightly tricky. Mostly it requires "being awake." So... grab some coffee and get ready! Hello, Looking for any information on Robert Kirkpatrick Boyd, born in Ohio and died in Missouri. His wife was Lucinda Rush and I would like to gather additional information on both families if anyone has knowledge. Attempting to confirm their child born - Francis M Boyd who married a Emma Miles. Regards, Steven
This year I will forgo my usual tour of one of the Irish Counties in September and stay home and watch the World Rugby Cup being played in New Zealand. There is no sense in an Australian asking New Zealanders to cheer for the Australian Wallaby's but could I suggest to Clan Boyd members - when the All Black are not playing - they could select another team to support, when they go to these games. I would assume that perhaps the Irish or Scottish sides might be selected, as many of your ancestors will have come from either county. While I was in Auckland on 12 May for my talk, it was suggested that they should try to organise a BBQ's over the next 12 months to both widen the group that came to my talk and to pass onto these new people more about our Boyd history, etc. So perhaps these meetings might be held "shortly", so that those that wish to "support" a second World Rugby Cup team can make a group booking with their tickets for those games. Boyd Miller gave me a list of people that he had contacted - some with Emails, so when I write to these people shortly, I will pass on this suggestion to them. While those Boyd descendants from outside of New Zealand, whom may be going to New Zealand for this World Cup, may wish to make contact with Boyd's in those Cities they plan to travel to. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS
7. George and Isabella Boyd of Chester Co., PA grand daughter Isabella Boyd & Soloman West According to the book Relatives of the Browns of Mill Springs, Kentucky, Including the Fisher, Gaar, Gholson, Hutchison, Weaver and West Families, by James E. Brown & Margaret Brown Altendahl, 1992, provides a very large outline (about 5-60 pags) of the family of Isabella Boyd and Solomon West. Isabella was the second child of James Boyd and Mary Cochran of Granville County, NC. He was one of two brothers (Robert Boyd) who lived on the North Carolina and Virginia border, who would tell the tax collector from one State they lived in the other State. That is an other story. James Boyd was the fourth son of George and Isabella Boyd. George was one of the founding members of St John's Episcopal Church of Chester Co., PA who came from Antrim County, Ireland sometime in the 1720's. Before 1787 Solomon and Isabella West's family moved to Greenville County, SC. He appears in Wyne County Kentucky in 1800 having sold his land in Greenville Co., SC. I will post more details on this family in a few weeks time, when I can sort more of my papers collected from this years trip. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS 8 June 2011

Phyllis I will get back to the New England and New York area in a few years time. There are still many Boyd families in this region that we need to follow up on getting them to put their family down on paper. I also have to get to Ontario Province in Canada and perhaps the Atlantic States of Canada as well. This year I will not be leading a Tour of one of the Counties in Ireland because of the World Cup Rugby in New Zealand in September. Hopefully, I can watch the games on free to air TV hear in Australia. Mindy and others I will have to talk to Lauren about how best to put on the website what material I have found on various Boyd family Branches during my recent trips. I still have material to sort from last years trip. I am up to folder 33 and that comes to some 64 pages. I still have to go through it, to put in family chapter numbers against most of this work, so it may be another month before I can send that. I have already started to sort the material from this years trip and I am up to folder 6, as I walk TV at nights - so I have to go through and Index and list the contents. However, in a few days time I will send to the list my known list of Boyd books, so we can start a process of asking members if they can find any additional Books on Boyd families. I know that I found several new books to me at the Nashville Library but that is about 4 envelopes away before I can send those to the list. What I am thinking is to ask all members of the HBS and list members to see if they can add any additional Boyd books as a first phase and then as a second phase to get people to look at The County History Books for your State to see what additional Boyd families that can be found. I also noticed that the Ohio Genealogical had members family tree publication, so that may become a third phase. I am sure that I can find some other phases that members can help to find families that are already known or published as well, including members interest lists, etc Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mindy Householder" <minzgen@gmail.com> To: "Marla Fair" <dfair@woh.rr.com> Cc: "Boyd List" <BOYD-L@rootsweb.com>; "Dean Road" <deanroadeditor@gmail.com>; "Kevin McLachlan" <kevinbmclachlan@gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2011 10:06 PM Subject: Re: [BOYD] Mike Boyd's talk in Troy OH > Hi all > > Wow what a weekend.
