However, it also allows for others to take a peek and provide insight. The area that says "Ire. English" -- was that in box 12 under "Nativity"? What is in box 17 (re language)? Boyd, of Burr Ridge, IL 60521 " This is form an Dean Road query in the late 1990's, so I am not shire if "C Boyd" may still live in Burr Ridge ILL. However, in recent years I have written to two other people about this family, so those people may have more detail knowledge of where in Parke Co., IN. the above family lived compared to Jonette's family So if you are one of the researchers for John Boyd and Mary Robert's family you may wish to let Jonette know when this family was in Parke Co., IN Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jonette Kowalik" <jrkowalik@gmail.com> To: "Mike Boyd" <mikejboyd@bigpond.com> Cc: <Boyd@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 02, 2011 4:57 AM Subject: Re: [BOYD] Brick Wall - William Boyd - Dallas County Iowa There was another Boyd family living in Dallas County around the same time as my ancestors but I have been unable to find any familiar link with them. 3. Sometimes when a family member is written into records as "went west and was never heard from again', isn't quite accurate. He maybe wrote home he'd married an Indian wife, and they 'lost' him that way. 3. I do not know when or where William and Mary were married but I do believe they may have been married in an M.E Church as there are later references to them holidng church services in their home. I know that their son Samuel was born in Park County IN as were all the other children. In a recent trip to Iowa I found amongst old Dallas County Courthouse records an early death notation for William which listed his birthplace as Newton Township, Cumberland Co PA. This new information seems to contradict earlier information a cousin had reported to me. There was another Boyd family living in Dallas County around the same time as my ancestors but I have been unable to find any familiar link with them. William and Mary's second son, James, is quite a dead end. We have made some assumptions from information we do have, Williams's last will states that Samuel is the first son so we know that James was born AFTER Samuel (who is my direct descendant from their children). The will states in such language "if James should ever return" so as to make us believe that no one in the family knew where he had gone to. He could have gone further west, there could have been a family feud or any number of other things. We have located William and Mary's gravesites in Kimrey Cemetary located in Dallas County Iowa. 3. Thank you Lauren I have not had time to look at this website but I do know that there are a number of errors in it. However, it does give you an reasonable outline of Clan Boyd History in about 30 or 40 pages. Although, it is in some cases short of dates and locations. I have 10 or 12 publications which I have found in the last few years that I need to include into Chapter 3, so it can be put on the Society Web site - but I need to get 3 or 4 weeks of clear time to do it. The main one that was caused some "heated" discussion and been the subject of several books is Robert Boyd the son of the first Earl of Kilmarnock. "Scots Peerage", Vol 5, p 174 says this about Robert:- 4. ROBERT. He is claimed as an ancestor by several families, but nothing appears to be known about him. According to one account he was born at Kilmarnock August 1689, baptised there 24 October following, and died November 1762, having married there, 25 October 1714, Margaret Thomson, by whom he had eleven children, one of whom, the fourth son, William, is said to have gone to Buchan with James, Lord Boyd, after he succeeded (1758) to the Earldom of Erroll, and to have settled as a manufacturer in Turriff, Aberdeenshire. This latter statement is borne out by the registers, as his fourth child Erroll, is baptised at Kilmarnock 15 September 1761, and the fifth, Janet, at Turriff 3 June 1763. The Kilmarnock registers, however, contain no entry of the birth or baptism of a Robert Boyd in 1689, and the Robert who was married in 1714 is described as a "glover in Kilmarnock", and no reference is made to his being an Honourable or son of the Earl. However, when I was talking to the Lord Lyons Clerk last year, she said that the Herald doing this work in 1904 was not up to the mark. She also agreed that the Captain Robert Boyd of the Scots Dutch Brigade, who died in about 1710 was the Earl's son and could not be the same Robert Boyd who married in 1714 Margaret Thomson and went onto have 11 children. In 2007, I was shown an hand written book by the first Bt of Howth, Walter Boyd, written in the 1850's when he was at Trinity College Dublin with this same quotation. However, I have not yet been able to find what the original source of this information might have been before the 1850's. At this stage I am still trying to find out what happened to ALL the First Earl's younger sons - born in the 1660's and 1670's and if they MIGHT HAVE HAD any descendants. Enjoy reading this material. 1. [BOYD] Boyds of Patrick Co Va
    2. Hello List again. I have also found while researching in Patrick Co Va a murder of a John / Joseph Boyd in October of 1831. 2 men were charged with the murder Henry Wysong and Fleming Thomas. Several Boyds and a couple 'married ins' sat on the jury. Fleming Thomas was deemed not guilty and was not charged. Wysong was charged but can find no further info as to what happened in court. Both men show up later in the records, so I will 'assume' that nothing was proven. Question is..who is this John Boyd? I have found nothing as to his age, parents etc. I did find where the judge ordered that his body be disinterred and another inquest done and they were to report back to the court in the April session...nothing is mentioned. In my June trip I found another murder involving 2 Boyds about 1860's, paperwork not at my finger tips right this second. Anyone know anything about that one? Also working on married-ins: Tuggle, Cockram, Rakes and the Brammers. There is some commotion about Mildred Brammer who was wed to Burgess Brammer as a Boyd. I do have a copy of the deed where Hugh Boyd deeded her and her heirs land out of 'mutual love and affection'. We know that Burgess left her and their children and headed to Russell Co Va where he met his demise. There are Boyds and Brammers in Franklin Co and in Bedford and I am working on those...does anyone have any info on when and where Burgess Brammer married this Mildred "Boyd"? By backtracking the Brammers I hope to find if indeed she was a Boyd and how or if she was related to the Patrick / Franklin Co Boyds Sherrie Kirby _craz12no@aol.com_ (mailto:craz12no@aol.com)

    1. [BOYD] Robert Boyd in Va.
    2. Hello List, in response to the mailing on Robert Boyd married to Elizabeth Rakes in Patrick Co, Va. in 1806. They did have 3 children Elisha, Samuel and Leony or Oney. In my visits to Patrick Co (I've done 3 so far) Harold Boyd and I found in Deed books that Joseph Boyd deeded Elizabeth Rakes land in 1816. This land was on the border of his and her parents land. So she was a widow at that time, putting Roberts death about 1815. No death records survive before 1853ish. So combing the books page by page is a must. Elizabeth Rakes Boyd also sells this land to her brother in 1832, deed signed by all the of the above children. Elisha wed Leah Cockram and headed west into Russell / Buchanan Co, Va. Oney was married to Edward Arrington and headed to Scott Co. Va....the big question is what happened to Samuel and Elizabeth? The end of June I found the answer to that. Samuel is listed as the executor of Elizabeth Boyds estate in 1851. I started tracking backwards to find an exact date, but did not finish. SO, we know that Elizabeth and Samuel stayed on in Patrick Co and she never remarried. This was an account of her estate. I also have a copy of the deed where Robert Boyd purchased his land from Nathan Hall (there was a Sr and a Jr) on April 5,1809. In the 1832 deed from Joseph Boyd to Elizabeth Boyd he refers to her as his daughter. I have more info, copies of deeds etc...I'm finding more than I can organize at this point. I will be returning as soon as I can. All comments and suggestions welcome...I also tracked backwards into Franklin County,Va. Sherrie Kirby _craz12no@aol.com_ (mailto:craz12no@aol.com)
