    3. Hi Barb: PerhapsĀ that may indicate Northern Ireland? I have googled Ireland 1910 to see what the "climate of the times" might have been. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Home_Rule_Movement has some bearing. as does http://www.marxists.org/archive/connolly/1910/04/laborpol.htm I suspect that the earlier comment suggesting Irish born of English descent may be the case! Does anyone else have such an entry for their Ancestor, with more knowledge of that family's background? 3. I have a subscription to ancestry.com, so I have the form. Yes, the info was in box 12. In Box 17 it says "English." I just thought is was odd. Would people from Ireland have spoken another language? 3. Hello List, Because I've seen this list be very helpful to folks, I thought I'd ask this question to all of you. On a 1910 US Federal census record for New York it lists the person's birthplace as - "Ire. English." I'm sure this means Ireland, but why did they put "English?" Thanks in advance, Barb

    3. Yes, Barb -- They could have spoken Irish Gaelic. I am still a bit confused... .was "Ire. English in box 12" and then a separate entry for language in box 17? Or was "Ire." in box 12 and "Engilsh" in box 17? Still digging. I haven't be to Arundel since I was a little girl. My dad goes up there a couple of times a year with his brother. My Grandmother was Olive Hazel Graham. She married George Board. My Dad has been telling me stories about growing up and about his Grandmother's farm in Arundel. My dad has a copy of the Graham family tree that he is supposed to give me.Hopefully it will have some answers about some of the Boyd's. A cousin traced that side of the tree. I still have a lot of cousins in Arundel, have met some of them on the Graham side. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
