Boy are we getting close to home with all these John Boyds! My first direct Boyd ancestor (John) was supposedly born around 1770/1780 in or around Abbeville (Old Ninety Six Dist.), South Carolina. I'm looking for HIS father who I suspect was named John, Robert or Alexander (since those names repeat through the next few generations. My John Boyd married "Eleanor" (maiden name unknown) around 1801 and died around 1836. John's estate settlement included the following info: BOYD, John Est. admr. Sept 12, 1836, by Wm. Campbell, Joseph Hughey, Thos. J. Foster bound to Moses Taggart Ord. Abbeville Dist. Sum $2,000.00. Cit. Pub. at Mt. Moriah Church. Settlement Hugh, Wm., Jno. Boyd out of the state. Elener Boyd wid. Ebenezer, A.P. (Alexander), Hannah, Jane, Robt., Adam Boyd. The youngest son, Adam, died young and his estate settlement included the following: BOYD, Adam On Dec. 7, 1838 Hugh Boyd, Wm. Campbell, Jefferson Hughey bound to Moses Taggart Ord. Abbeville Dist. Sum $5,000.00. Hugh Boyd made gdn, Adam Boyd a minor. Sett. of Adam Boyd a decd. minor made Nov. 11, 1845. Present, Hugh Boyd. Left as his distributes, mother Elenor Boyd. Brother, Hugh Boyd his gdn. Robt. Boyd, Hannah who married Wm. Malone. Martha H. who married Major Wm. Campbell. Jane not in the state, Jno. B. (John B.), Wm. H., Alexr. Ebenezer Boyd. Jno. (John) Boyd decd. was the father. Had land in Georgia. It certainly feels like we're all related somehow--just wish we could figure out how! I have no idea who my John's siblings were, much less his parents. I've been to Abbeville and the SC Archives in Columbia but found no more than I found on Ancestry.com and in my local LDS library. Please stay in touch in case something shakes loose in the future! Darlene Amark fairwinds@earthlink.net kings@wtxs.net wrote: >>I too am searching for the father of my first direct Boyd ancestor. Yolanda, I am confused by the organization of the list of descendants you have below. Or, are these just listings of separate families that you have accumulated, without knowing what the specific connection is for each family? John & Kathleen -----Original Message----- From: boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:boyd-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Yolanda Boyd Sent: Thursday, August 18, 2011 8:21 AM To: boyd@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOYD] John Boyd's family of Westruther, Berwick Scotland connected to John Boyd / Margaret Redpath Hi Mike, In order to eliminate possible relations, we have been putting together other family units in the Borders region of Scotland and England based on the records we have found. We have not found a relation to this family yet, but think that there is a strong possibility for connecting at some point as they are living in the same very small towns as our line. We have not really delved into this family at this point, so I am sure that there is much to be added for someone who is interested. Below is a summary of the family which connects to the line that Brian Boyd has researched. This is for John Boyd, b. 1783 in Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland, son of George Boyd and Elizabeth Gibson. John Boyd (b. 1783 in Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland, d. 16.4.1847 in Westruther) and Elizabeth Tait (died 23.9.1861, aged 73, in Westruther): 1. Hi Barabara, This isn't actually my Boyd line, but I have looked at the records for this area quite a bit in an effort to figure out our Boyd line. Elizabeth Tait's parents are Gavin Tait and Isabella Fairburn, who are of the right age to be siblings or cousins to your Taits and Fairburns. I have the parents of Gavin Tait, but may be missing some of his siblings as the first child was born 8 years into the marriage. I don't see any obvious connections right now, but maybe you can make some sense of it. I think that we would need to go back another generation to determine if they are related to your ancestors. I am searching for the father of my first direct Boyd ancestor born in the US. His name is David Boyd, born in 1792 in Old Ninety Six area of South Carolina. His father died between his birth and the 1800 census and his mother Elizabeth then married a John Stewart. David married Matilda Pickens (daughter of Revolutionary soldier Israel Pickens) in 1815 in Anderson, SC. Their natural children in order of their birth were Elizabeth, John S., Israel P., Archibald J., Martha and Luvine. Both David and Matilda ware members of Little Generostee ARP in SC and founded Bethesda, an ARP church in Smyrna,GA where they died 1877. Living in their household (relation unknown) was a Mary Ann Dickey Boyd (DOB 1824 - died 1901) who married William Stewart (parents John Stewart and Ann Partain), both Mary Ann and William died in GA. William is buried in Little Geneostee Cemetery, SC, Mary in Doraville, DeKalb, Georgia. While I do not yet have David's natural father's name, a later census shows that both his parents were "born abroad". Any assistance in identifying David's natural father will be greatly appre= ciated. Wayland Garrett boyd
Hi, Sorry that the information wasn't clear. I was cutting and pasting from the notes that I have on families who are not related to my husbands (as far as we know). I first listed the children of John Boyd and Elizabeth Tait. Then below that, each of these children has more information where available, including their marriages, children and deaths. I put the children in the same order as they were born to try to make is clearer. All of the individuals listed are the children or grandchildren of John Boyd and Elizabeth Tait of Westruther. I don't know if your computer changed the formatting, but in the email that you sent back to me has the information a bit scrambled and even I had a difficult time understanding it. If this is a family who you very interested in, please let me know and I will send you a Word document which should make it clearer. When I was in Fort William last year, I was given the name of Caroline Damiano of St Catherine's Ontario. A few days ago, I tried to contact her on the Email address I was give of adcd@mergetel.com but that has bounced. Do any members of this list know Caroline or could one of our Ontarian cousin's - who live near St Catherines - volunteer to contact her please. Hi Mike, In order to eliminate possible relations, we have been putting together other family units in the Borders region of Scotland and England based on the records we have found.
