It probably had something to do with my cutting and pasting the information directly from the internet. So, I changed the formatting and this should work now. Let me know if you have trouble viewing this. The following are the 1851 and 1861 census records for Peter Donaldson and Elizabeth Boyd of Westruther, daughter of John Boyd and Elizabeth Tait. I have not had time to look for IGI records and must set aside the genealogy research as I have a busy day ahead of me. But, the census does show that they had many children. Yolanda Boyd
Diane, I am sure that you haven't overlooked naming patterns, particularly in the BOYD's. If it held true here and John is Levi's eldest, then I would say that John is Levi's father's name: First son named for paternal grandfather. = John Second son named after maternal grandfather. = Robert Third son named after father. = Levi Consider also, that many BOYD's used their middle name as their common reference. I meant to jump in last week but got busy and just didn't do it, but I have done a lot of research on some of these Boyds and would be happy to share what I've found. I did several articles on the family of Robert H. Boyd (son of Hugh)who married (1) Chloeretta Gray, (2) Martha Osborne Wagner, and (3) Martha McRae. (All that is documented with court records and censuses.) I also have proof that Rosanna, daughter of Hugh, married William Boyd, son of Robert and Rosannah Stewart Boyd. And, of course you know I believe Rosanna and William were first cousins. Not proved but lots of evidence. I also have a theory on Jeannett (Harper?) "Muffitt" Boyd which I would like to toss out for discussion. I believe Jeannette was married to the Moffett second (after Hugh died) instead of before. That would make her Jeannette Harper (?) Boyd Moffett. The questions come from Matthew Boyd's will where he leaves part of his estate to the children of his half-brother, William Moffett, who, if the general current info is correct, would be older than Matthew. We don't know Matthew's year of birth but we do know that he was the oldest son of Hugh and Jeanette (mentioned as such in Hugh's will). We also know that Hugh's son, John Montgomery Boyd, was born in 1776, because it is on his gravestone in Boyd, Alabama. Therefore, Matthew must have been born before 1776. Let's say he was born in 1774, going on the usual span between children at that time. That means that William Moffett, the half-brother, would be born before 1774 if Jeannette were married to the Moffett before Hugh. (Are you still with me?) Annual returns dated 1837 on Matthew Boyd's estate names these children and says they are all "infants." (Matthew died in 1835 but made his will in 1834.) Quoting a passage from Sandra Lee's book, "Newberry County, SC Equity Records 1818-1844, Will Book M&N With Annual Returns, Will Book I, Miscellaneous Annual Returns, ©1985 by Sandra J. Lee, page 132: BOX 22, PACKAGE 4 "James Renwick, Adm. of Matthew Boyd dec vs Jacob Maffett and infants Sarah, Silas, Elizabeth, Margaret, Ann Emeline Maffet (Guardian Elijah Jenkins). Bill for direction and relief. Filed 6 July 1837. "Matthew Boyd died in 1835 with LWT 3 Sept 1834 in which he left real estate and two negroes to "children of my half-brother William Maffet." At the time the will was written, William Maffet had three children ... Sarah, Silas, and Elizabeth. Another child, Margaret, was born before Matthew Boyd died. Ann Emeline Maffett was born after Matthew Boyd died. The court decided all the children would receive an equal share." Further research shows that Sarah (Ann) was born 26 Nov 1826 (gravestone in Texas); Silas and Elizabeth both had to be born before 1834, Margaret was born between 1834 and 1835 (after the will but before Matthew died), and Ann Emeline was born after 1835 (after Matthew died). If their father, William Maffett, sired them, and he was born in 1772 (or maybe before), then he would be nearly 70 years old and not likely to be having young children. However, if he was born AFTER Hugh died (after 1899), then he would be a more reasonable age to be having young children. Not hard proof, but certainly reason for doubt and cause to take another look. I think he was more likely born about 1800. So ... thoughts anyone? Judy in Newnan, GA
Having done some research at the Sweetwater Library, I came across this in one of the historical books: "A reservation reserved by ISAAC VANN in 1819 on Sweetwater Creek was sold to THOMAS BUNCH, HUGH BOYD, ARMSTEAD BEBER and ROBERT SNEAD in 1831 for the sum of $2000. All of these Indians only made an X for their signature as none could write their name." pg.128 Information about the 1819 Treaty with the Cherokee can be found here: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/scripts/data/database.cgi?file=Data&report=SingleArticle&ArticleID=0024603 A post by Jerry L. Clark has information about ISAAC VANN and his TN reservation (640 acres) can be found here: http://genforum.genealogy.com/vann/messages/1942.html I have nothing more on this topic. Dianna

Dear List, Years of searching and I am no farther along on LEVI J. BOYD. There is no document to connect LEVI to any family anywhere. There were other BOYDS living in Monroe County, TN but nothing states any relationship to them. LEVI BOYD had a son named LEVI JORDAN BOYD and I suspect a JORDAN was a surname of a mother or grandmother but can't find any proof. LEVI BOYD was born in TN 1802 according to the 1850 District 12 (Madisonville, Niles Ferry Rd. toward Vonore), Monroe County, TN Census Record. Listed: Levi Boyd 48 Hanah Boyd 45 (Hannah Clayton b. District 12 James Boyd HH# 832 Levi Boyd HH# 834 The 1830 Census record has the following BOYDS: Monroe County, TN 1830 Census Record: Boyd Hugh 1000201 222001001 140 102 Boyd Jeremiah 312001 011101 142 115 Boyd Thomas 0100001 000201 146 139 Boyd Irby 110201 110001 146 141 Boyd Levi 12001 01001 146 142 Boyd John 020001 02001 149 156 Boyd Joseph 010101 21001 149 156 Boyd Levi 12001 01011 149 157 Boyd Margarett 101 011101 149 160 LEVI's children have used the name Thomas, frequently, in naming one of their children so there may be a THOMAS BOYD ancestor. LEVI must have parents and siblings but I can't find any documents to this fact. Has anyone found a document about this LEVI BOYD amongst their ancestors? Dianna

Dear Cousins: Please be mindful when posting a reply to cut your message to only what you are typing. There is no need to include the prior message(s) in your reply as we have all received them... and can also look them up in the archives, if need be. The exception would be if you are replying to a very old message. In that instance, please only include what may be necessary to understand your message. The trend lately has been to reply and quote all the previously stated data and not cut the old messages off. This results in the digests being difficult to understand, the archives being filled with repeated information and an unnecessary burden on the server. A recent message had a 3 word reply and a signature, and quoted 6 prior messages, with footers for all repeated over and over and over again. (I only use this as an example, not meaning to put anyone on the hot seat!) If you are a quoter of the prior message that quotes prior messages, don't be surprised if the server kicks your message back for being "too large". If your reply was brief, this may confuse you. However, that is what excessive quoting leads to and it is on the rise. Those of us with GMAIL accounts need to be particularly aware ... we must reveal the hidden text and delete the unnecessary. [That includes me! lol I don't always remember either.] I am glad to see you all interacting and some real progress being made. Keep those emails coming -- fast and furious as you choose. Just slow down a bit to review what you have written and delete the extraneous prior messages and footers. Yours Aye, Lauren Boyd List Admin Rootsweb Volunteer since 1996

Do any members of this list descand from the children of William boyd and Mary Meikle? I could only find IGI entries for Isabella and James. And these appear to be Church records. Brian Boyd of Melbourne, some years ago, gave me these details of family from the Scottish Borders WHICH I BELIEVE IS THE DIRECT TREE FOR THE JOHN BOYD THAT Yolanda Boyd gave us on 18 August 2011. S1? John Boyd, b / /1693 (Ednam, Berwick/Roxburghshire, Scotland), d / /17xx ( ), bu , m / /1723 (church, Greenlaw, Berwickshire), Margaret Redpath, dau of and (nee ) Redpath, b / /170x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] T4? George Boyd, b / /1729 (town, Berwickshire), d / /17xx ( ), bu , m 28/4/1749 (Church, Fogo, Berwickshire), Margaret Hogg, dau of and (nee ) Hogg, b / /172x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] >From the 1994 IGI for the UK:- George BOID (M)............. C: 2 Feb 1726 B: 1 Oct 1975 SLAKE Ba: C100091 Father: James BOID Melrose, Roxburgh, Scotland E: 10 Nov 1975 SLAKE So: 941 Mother: Elizabeth RAITH SP: 11 Dec 1975 SLAKE Pr: 6901050 Melrose is only about 20 kms west of Kelso. This James MIGHT BE a sibling to John Boyd [S1?]/ U2 George Boyd, b 3/2/1750/1 ( ), Bapt / /175x (Earlston, Roxburghshire?), d / /1818 ( , Hull, , England), bu , m 12/10/1777 (Church, Gordon, Roxburghshire?), Elizabeth Gibson, dau of and (nee ) Gibson, b / /175x ( ), d / /1814 ( ), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - "And their children, who were baptised at Stitchel-Hume, Scotland". On the B6364 road between Greenlaw and Kelso are two villages - one marked as Hume and the southern as Stitchell. At Hume is marked "Hume Castle" which may mean that some sort of Church may have been near by. I would assume a Presbyterian Church would be what I would look under first. V4 John Boyd, b 29/6/1783 ( ), Bapt at Stitchel-Hume, Scotland, d / /18xx ( ), bu , m ? While Yolanda Boyd - IN HER POST OF 18 AUGUST 2011 - has given us these details for WHAT I THINK IS THE ABOVE JOHN BOYD:- V4 John Boyd, b / /1783 (Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland), d 16/4/1847 (Westruther, Berwickshire), bu , m / /181x (church, town, county, etc), Elizabeth Tait, dau of and (nee ) Tait, b / /1788 (town, county, etc), d 23/9/1861 (Westruther?, Berwickshire), bu , and had issue:- [Lived: ] - Details? John is listed as a Tailor on his children's birth records until 1829 when he became Tenant farmer at Broomybank. [Who was he a tenant off?] You will notice the "MIGRATION PATH" of this family 1. 1693, Ednam; 2. 1723, Greenlaw; 3. 1726, Melrose; 4. 1749 , Fogo; 5. 1750/1, Earlston; 6. 1777, Gordon; 7. 1783, Stitchel-Hume or Lauder All of these places are within an area from area of Melrose to Kelso and about 15 kms north of those two towns. So if you Boyd family comes from this area, the list would like to hear from you about the origins of your Boyd family. I am interested in finding "siblings" to those in this direct tree from John Boyd [S1?] to John boyd [V4]. Thank you Mike Boyd HIstorical Committee, HBS
Hi, My computer seems to not like the way I have cut and pasted the information in the emails I sent earlier. So, I am retyping the information on these emails so that it is easier to understand. Sorry to flood your inboxes! Yolanda Yesterday I sent you information about the family of Gavin Boyd who moved to Hamilton, Ontario and was found in the 1871 census. I searched the 1841-1861 census records at http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/61search.aspx (free census records, but limited areas) and found Gavin Boyd and Agnes Trotter only in the 1841 and 1851 census.
