Part of the Boyd family of New Windsor, Orange County, NY has these parents R1 Robert Boyd, b / /1734 (town, Co. Down, Ireland), d 29/10/1804, bu Little Britain churchyard, New Windsor, Co., NY, m / /176x (Church, New Windsor), Miss Smith, dau of and (nee ) Smith, b / /173x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- m 2ndly / /176x (church, etc), Eleanor Cockle, dau of John and Ruth (nee ) Cockle, b / /174x ( ), d / /18xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- The youngest son was George Boyd whom I understand was George Boyd D.D. b. 8 February 1788 in New York City d. 3 December 1850 in Philadelphia, PA. When he died in 1850 he was an Episcopal minister of Philadelphia, Pa. Do any members know if he married and had any descendants? Thank you Mike Boyd
Bryant You have two problems. 1) Many Boyd men will look very similar. So they will have that "Boyd look". During my various visits I have meet some Boyd in the UK and USA who looked very much like my own grandfather in his later life. 2) The second is wanting to connect to someone who is famous. Being a cousin not a bad way to claim such a link. But then all Boyds are at worst 26th degree of cousinship. My own family when I was a primary and secondary school claimed Ben Boyd, who was a large Australian land owner, started the whaling industry at Twofold Bay, NSW and build Boyd Town on the same Bay was called uncle Ben by my family. It was not until I started working on our family tree in the 1980's that I discovered that Ben Boyd was part of the Boyds of Merton Hall Scotland and our family came Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland and there was no link between the two Boyd families. The "other" small problem is that there are plenty of Boyd families that went to Ohio over the years, so it is going to be very easy to confuse the children's names from these many families. Even if you have a common County location within Ohio, I would say it was very easy to confuse a Boyd family. Mike, Williaam was the name of a gretgr gr gr grandfathers brother, Matilda was the name of a daughter and of course James and Johnare also in family. No positive data to say Hopalong was a cousin as Grammie claimed but never knew her to lie, she was a very quiet woman. He looks alot like my father who also was prematurely white haired but had a full head of hair when he died. His father James came to the US from Ireland about the same time as my great grandfather John BOYD, 1848 during the potato famine. James and my John could have been cousins or even brothers but until I can find out what James mothers name was and so forth won't know more. It's just something my grandmother told my family. HI, John Boyd came from ireland about 1848 and I don't know if he came through Canada or Boston or Ellis Island but the 1850 census shows him in Enosburg with a family name raudel (believe it is Randell). There may be a connection to the family as he obviously stayed with them for a while after coming and then opened a taning mill on a river in Franklin to tan leathers. that's from Franklin records of mills and his statement he was a shoemaker. It's possible he had a brother named James as they are about the same age, John (My greagreatgreat grandfather) and James. I do know that my John was a Presbyterian as were my grandparents and Protestant. Harriet Cady William Boyd was born in Belmont County, Ohio in 1895. Belmont County is right on the border w/West Virginia. James Boyd was born in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland in 1834 and moved to Belmont County when he was 10 when his family fled Ireland during the potato famine. He would eventually go on to be a mayor of Omaha and a governor of Nebraska. The possibility is very strong that he was related to William Boyd and that William Boyd is descended from James Boyd’s father (Irish families were typically very large, Protestant or Catholic). James Boyd’s family would have most likely been Protestant and Presbyterian. They would also most likely have been descended from the Scottish Protestants that began colonizing Northern Ireland in the late 1500s. Can someone who is on the gateway site pass this onto Linda please? A) Can you post the whole of Joab Brooks statement about Rebecca Boyd McKaughan. (and hopefully he has included locations of town or village for the dates) B) In 1711 or 1716 there is no Official Statements of birth or birth certificates. Only Bibles or some Church records. C) I have some 70 County Antrim families chapters, some of whom go back to the the early 1700's so might be able to find a linkage. D) Could you provide your Email address so people can reply to you please Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, December 03, 2013 1:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BOYD] Rebecca Boyd, born County Antrim, Ireland, 1716 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I'm a descendant of Rebecca Boyd McKaughan. My g-g-grandfather, Joab Brooks, gave sworn testimony in 1874 to her origins. (She was his g-grandmother.) Do you have official birth records for Rebecca? Or do you know anything specific about her father and her heritage other than what is available on Ancestry? I see that you have death dates for Rebecca's parents of "after 1711," which apparently indicates a birth date for Rebecca of 1711. Do you have documentation of this? Thanks much. There are several Boyd families of New Windsor, Orange County, NY. Recently I was given the names of the nine children of Samuel Boyd, born 1768 in New Windsor, NY and who died on 20 March 1839 at Philadelphia, PA and who married on 16 February 1793 in Newark, NJ Elizabeth Pierson. Elizabeth was born in 1771 in Newark, NJ and died 23 August 1811 and is buried Little Britain Cemetery, New Windsor, NY. Elizabeth surname might also have been spelt as Pearson. The list of these nine children is Mary Augusta, Augustus, Robert, James, James Kent, John, Samuel, Eleanor, Edward. However there were no details on when and where these children were born. All that can be said is that there were born between 1793 and 1811. On 24 September 1812, Samuel married Anna Maria Bayard, who was the daughter of Col. John Bubenheim Bayard and Margaret Hodge. Do any members belong to any of these nine children or can someone supply any details for them and their descendants Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee House of Boyd Society 6/12/2013
