    3. Colin When I was at Fort Wayne's Allen County Library, I found the book "Boyd family", by Arthur S. Boyd, jr. 1924 which outlines the arrival of the 3 Boyd brothers - James, William and John Boyd, - in about 1720. The book then goes onto outline James Boyd's family who settled in the town of York, York County, in what is now the State of Maine. Mike Boyd PS sorry, it het sent instead of copy before. -----Original Message----- From: Colin Brooks Sent: Monday, December 16, 2013 4:34 PM To: boyd Subject: Re: [BOYD] Passenger records for Boston, MA in about 1720 No there aren't, why you ask? There are many "non-passenger" lists that you need to look at to find folks in this time. No American arrivals from British countries are required to file passenger lists until after 1820. 3. St. Kits (now Trinidad and Tobego) was periodically owned by Augustus Boyd the slaver and father of the Baronet John Boyd of Danson Hall. Augustus and family were in the island when John was born in 1718, returning to London in 1734/5. The Baronet is said to have been the only child but there may have been slaves, workers, managers etc. who took his surname. http://www.oxforddnb.com/templates/article.jsp?articleid=49745&back= Mike Boyd wrote: > While it is known that some Boyds came to South Carolina from Barbados (and it is assumed from other West Indies Island), it is not know what these other Island were? > > > > > ==================== > House of Boyd will be present in the Clan Village at the 700th Anniversary Celebration of the Battle of Bannockburn, June 2014. 2. Mike Boyd
    3. I wish to say Merry Christmas to all those on this list where ever you are around the World. It seems that those in the northern hemisphere, my have already had their white Christmas, while we in Australia seem to be going for a very hot period. I notice today in Perth Western Australia where Australia is playing England in the cricket test it will be 41 degrees C. So post your missing parts of your family tree, so that you may get an extra Christmas present. Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust # 423

    3. Harriet and others Would those Boyds be the family of Mosson Boyd of Bobcaygeon Village, Emily, Victoria Co., Ontario. He is part of the family of Boyds of Ballymacool, Letterkenny, County Donegal who arrivied in Letterkenny in the early 1600's. I think the family later had a large house in Montreal Is that the family you have found? Mike Boyd Historical committee, hBS -----Original Message----- From: Harriet E. 1. [BOYD] What USA States have books on Founding Families?
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. During my visit to the Greenville Library, South Carolina in 2013, I found the book Founding Families of the State of South Carolina published in 2000 A. D. In this book to become a founding family you had to be in South Carolina before 23 May 1788. I am not sure if this applied to other US States founding families. It raises the question as to which other USA State might have similar books, especially those States in the East Coast of the USA. In this situation these family trees are a direct tree, with the Boyd name occurring in the 1900’s. I know from the 1790 US Census that there were quite a number of Boyd families there in 1790, so I assume that quite a number of Boyd families form South Carolina would qualify to be a founding family of South Carolina. 1. [BOYD] Jane Revill’s Compilation of the Original Lists of Protestant Immigrants to South Carolina 1763-1773,
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. I was doing further indexing of the material I found during my trip to the USA in June 2013, when I came to the book A Compilation of the History of the Boyd/Gibeert Family in South Carolina, 1767 – 1986, second printing – 1993, Julius Boyd, and on page 11 it mentions Jane Revill’s Compilation of the Original Lists of Protestant Immigrants to South Carolina 1763-1773, whereit says:- “a meeting of the South Carolina Assembly was held February 19, 1763. In that meeting, a decision to grant certain acres of free land to any immigrant showing verifiable Protestant faith.” Firstly has anyone on the list looked at this book by Jane Revill? If so, what “evidence” was provided and is this included in the book for the list of people. And does it tell us where in Ireland these people came from? I am looking at the family of Robert Boyd who in 1767 was listed as being of 51 years old Mary J Boyd, aged 50 William Boyd, aged 18 years Andrew Boyd, aged 14 years Robert Boyd, aged 9 years Agnes aged 6 years Robert was granted 300 acres and his son William granted 100 acres along Little River near Calhoun Mill between Mr Carmel and Calhoun Falls, South Carolina. This area appears to be in Anderson County, SC. So secondly does anyone belong to this family and know where they came form in Ireland? Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    3. Barry and others these are the details that I have on this Robert Boyd R1 Robert Boyd, b / /1734 (town, Co. Down, Ireland), d 29/10/1804, bu Little Britain churchyard, New Windsor, Co., NY, m / /176x (Church, New Windsor), Miss Smith, dau of and (nee ) Smith, b / /173x ( ), d / /17xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- m 2ndly / /176x (church, etc), Eleanor Cockle, dau of John and Ruth ) Cockle, b / /174x ( ), d / /18xx ( ), bu , and had issue:- - Details? The Will below would suggest that Robert Boyd, married Elinor Cockle and had four children by him. While the 1990 DAR Patriot Index shows this Robert Boyd married to “Robert, Jr.: b 1734 IR d 10-29-1804 NY m --- Smith PS NY”[USA dates format]. While W. P. Boyd in his 1912 book outling this family only mentions the wife Miss Smith. So do we have two Robert Boyd’s or one that married twice? If so, which was the first and second wife? - He erected the iron and scythe works situated upon the creek, one mile below Newburgh. He inherited the estate of his uncle Samuel (Q1) and moved to New York city in 1800, where he held the office of sheriff. On p 361 it says his family consisted of six children, but on p 362 it has the following “the other children of Robert we have no record of.” This last comment suggests additional children who might have died young and therefore disregarded by the person who passed the information onto W. P. Boyd. >From an Email message from Chris Tami, 128 Cornell Ave., Rahway, NJ 07065 USA [email protected] on 23 October 1998 it has the following details:- Abstracts of Wills, Vol XIII, 1784-1786 Page 261.-- In the name of God, Amen. I, JOHN COCKLE, of Jamaica, Queens County, yeoman, being far advanced in years. I give to Ruth, my dearly beloved wife, my dwelling house and lot of land in the Townspot of Jamaica where I now live for her life, the use of my furniture and the interest of œ500. To my son, Thomas Cockle, born in Nothingham in old England, the sum of 5 shillings. To my daughter Elinor, wife of Robert Boyd, of New Windsor, Ulster County, a bond of œ400 which I have against her husband. Whereas I have above given my wife the interest of œ500 for life, I dispose of the same as follows after her death: œ25 to John, Joseph, Susannah, Ruth and Elinor Cockle, children of my son, John Cockle, deceased, equally divided among them, the remainder thereof to my grandchildren, children of my daughter, Elinor Boyd, namely, Samuel, Ruth, John and Jennet, equally divided among them when they arrive at lawful age, unless my wife live till that time when the same shall be paid them within one year of her death; and if my wife die before they arrive at lawful age then my daughter Elinor shall have the interest of the money till they arrive at lawful age. And the œ25 given to the children of my son John, shall be kept at interest till they arrive at lawful age. After the death of my wife I empower my executors to sell all my real and personal estate and the money therefrom I bequeath to Elinor Boyd. I make my wife Ruth and son-in-law, Robert Boyd, and Nicholas Smith, of Jamaica, executors. Dated March 29, 1777. Witnesses, Benjn Smith, William Lewis, Robert Hinchman. He was a blacksmith during the War of Independence near New Windsor, NY and made guns for Washington’s Army. He appears to have been first president/chairman of the NY General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen in 1785. When some of his descendants found out that he was a blacksmith, they would not provide any more data on this family to W. P. Boyd for his book of 1912. However, research over the last decade has indicated that this faaily came form Ballyhalbert, County Down, Ireland and that this might indicate that they are descendants of Colonel David Boyd , the natural son of the fifth Lord Boyd.
