    1. [BOYD] James Boyd (1781-1870) and Mehitable Reynolds of Westernville, Oneida County, NY - from Rhode Island
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. “According to the book The Boyd Family, Kenneth R. Boyd, 1978 (Allen County Public Library Number GC 929.2 B691BK ?), says that “the family lived near Schenectady before James went to Oneida County, New York.” While this books begins with saying “James Boyd was born in 1781. The History of Oneida County, New York says he was a native of Rhode Island.” Unfortunately, this quotation does not say where in Rhode Island this James Boyd’s family came from? In the 1790 US Census it has these three entries for Boyd families BOYD,Andrew RI Co:Kent Twp:East Greenwich BOYD,James RI Co:Providence Twp:Johnstown BOYD,Samuel RI Co:Providence Twp:Providence So could one of these families be the parents of this James Boyd born in 1781?” Do any list members live near Oneida County, NY (after the snow clears) who maybe able to look up this book to see if any location is given in Rhode Island for where this James Boyd might have come from. There are some Boyds in RI whom might then be able to check up those locations for the list Thank you Mike Boyd PS I am in the process of writing up this family Chapter in Volume 10 of Clan Boyd of Scotland.

He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Rankin is a tall bowler who stands at 6 ft 8 inches and has a distinctive bouncing action in his bowling. Rankin revealed in an interview that his action is modelled on bowlers like Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath who "hit the deck from just back of a length outside off stump".[1] He studied agriculture at Harper Adams University College in Shropshire, during which time he worked on his batting technique.[2] In August 2012, Rankin announced that he would cease playing for Ireland, with the hope of one day playing for the English team.[3] He debuted for England against New Zealand in a T20 match on 25 June 2013, and was named in the England squad for the 2013-14 Ashes series in Australia. 1 Domestic career 1.1 Middlesex 1.2 Derbyshire 1.3 Warwickshire 2 International career 3 References 4 External links Domestic career Middlesex His performances in for Ireland's U-19s and the Ireland A team to attracted the attention of county scouts and prompted several offers of trials. In an interview, Rankin stated that he chose to join Middlesex "because of the Irish connection, with Ed Joyce and Morgan there, I wanted to be some place where I knew a few faces".[1] During his two season stint at Middlesex, from 2004–2005, Rankin played several times for the second XI but failed to break into the first team.[1] Derbyshire In an effort to experience more first team cricket, he signed a deal with Derbyshire for the 2006 season, encouraged by Mike Hendrick, Derbyshire's bowling coach. Although Rankin played a first team match and a Pro40 match in which he took a wicket with his first over, his season was prematurely cut short by a side strain.[1] Derbyshire renewed his contract for the 2007 English season, though his opportunities were limited due mainly to injury.[4] He played just three first-class matches taking 10 wickets at an average of 29.20 with best figures of 4/41 which was against his old county, Middlesex; in that match he finished with his best first-class match figures of 8/121.[5][6] He also played five one day matches taking 4 wickets at an average of 50.50 with best figures of 2/56.[7] Warwickshire At the end of the 2007 season, Rankin turned down a new contract with Derbyshire in favour of a two-year contract withWarwickshire. Rankin explained his choice as a difficult one, but the opportunity of working with Alan Donald was too good to miss. He was contracted to play in the controversial Indian Cricket League for the Kolkata Tigers;[8] fellow Irishman, Niall O'Brienalso participated in the tournament.[9] Rankin jeopardised his season when in April 2008 he injured himself during fielding practice before a County Championship match against Worcestershire. He dived to stop a ball and landed awkwardly on his shoulder, suffering a SLAP tear to his right shoulder. He underwent an operation and was expected to be on the sidelines for about six months.[10]After just four months, Rankin was back playing cricket. In August 2008, he made his debut for Warwickshire in a first-class match against Essex. He finished with figures of 4/80 in a drawn match as Warwickshire only bowled once.[11] He finished the season with 12 first-class wickets for Warwickshire in five matches at an average of 30.16,[12] and did not play any one-day matches for Warwickshire.[13] Speaking in October 2008 about his first season with Warwickshire and being coached by Alan Donald, Rankin said "He [Donald] doesn't seek to make many technical changes during the season – that's more for the winter. It's more about the mental side of the game, how to work a batsman over, how to think more about the game, how to work batsmen out and take more wickets".[14] At the end of the 2008 season, Warwickshire secured promotion from the Second Division of the County Championship to the First. In 2009 Rankin impressed Ashley Giles, Warwickshire's director of cricket, with his bowling. Giles commented that "[Rankin]'s got great attributes – he's tall, he can bowl fast, the ball bounces from nowhere ... We've just got to keep him fit".[15] Having generally come on as first or second change bowler for Warwickshire in 2008,[16] at the start of the 2009 season Rankin was entrusted with the new ball and opened the bowling with Chris Woakes.[17] International career Rankin has represented Ireland at every age group from U-13 upwards, and by the age of 15 he was playing first team cricket for Bready, his local club.[1] He played three youth One Day Internationals (ODI) for Ireland, finishing with two wickets at an average of 52.00.[18] Performances for the Ireland A team prompted Rankin's inclusion in the World Cup Squad, although in the World Cricket League he made little impact in Ireland's unsuccessful campaign as he played only one match and was unavailable with a stomach bug for much of the time.[1] Rankin took 4/56 against the UAE to help Ireland make the Intercontinental Cup Final of 2007, which Ireland later won although Rankin did not play because of county commitments. Rankin had a successful World Cup in the Caribbean, and finished as Ireland's leading wicket taker of the tournament, with 12 wickets in his 9 matches at an average of 27 at a strike rate of 29.67. In Ireland's second game of the 2007 ICC World Cup, Rankin took 3/32 to bowl Pakistan out for 132 and win the match, causing a major upset. Ireland's victory against Pakistan ensured they progressed to the next round.[19] A stress fracture of the fibula forced Rankin to miss ODIs against India and South Africa in 2007 which Ireland lost.[4] In August 2008, Rankin made his first appearance for Ireland since the 2007 World Cup.[20] He played in the first two ODIs in the three match series against Kenya before returning to Warwickshire. In the first match Rankin took 2/26 as Ireland won by 33 runs,[21] however he did not bowl in the second match which was rained off after Ireland had batted for eight overs.[22] In October 2008, Rankin playing in the Intercontinental Cup against Namibia; finished with match figures of 7/72, with 5/39 in the second innings as Ireland secured an eight run win. In the match he recorded his maiden first-class five-wicket haul.[23] In the tournament final against Namibia, Ireland won by nine wickets and Rankin finished with match figures of 6/107.[24] Rankin was part of the Ireland squad that took part in the tri-series against Kenya and Zimbabwe in October 2008. Ireland did not qualify for the final of the tournament because they had a lower run-rate than Kenya;[25] Rankin played in both of Ireland's ODI and took two wickets at an average of 41.50.[26] In April 2009, Rankin was part of the Ireland squad which won the 2009 ICC World Cup Qualifier.[27] Rankin finished the tournament as Ireland's leading wicket-taker, with 15 wickets from 9 matches at an average of 20.40, and was the equal sixth highest wicket-taker for the 2009 tournament.[28] Although Rankin didn't play in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in August 2008 in which Ireland shared the title with the Netherlands, he was selected for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20. He made his Twenty20 International debut on 8 June 2009. In Ireland's six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Ireland's opening match of the tournament, he took 1/36 from his four overs with Naeem Islam as his maiden wicket. The match was also Rankin's first competitive Twenty20 match.[29] Rankin was one of seven Ireland players to be nominated for the 2009 Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year (there were fourteen nominees in all),[30] although he did not make the 4-man short-list.[31] In January 2010, Rankin sustained a stress fracture to his right foot which forced him to miss Ireland's tour of Sri Lanka.[32] He recovered from injury in time to be selected in Ireland's 15-man squad for the 2011 World Cup.[33] On 16 August, Rankin represented the England Lions against Sri Lanka A. A side made up of some of the best players from Associate and Affiliate teams was put together to face England in Dubai in January 2012. The three-day match was part of England's preparation for a series against Pakistan later that month. Rankin was one of four Ireland players included in the 12-man squad.[34] In August 2012, Rankin announced that he would cease playing for Ireland, with the hope of one day playing for the English team.[35] He debuted for England against New Zealand in a T20 match on 25 June 2013. He made his test debut on 3 January 2014 against Australia in the 5th test of the 2013-14 Ashes series.

Note "Pages 17 through 348, Northwest Territory & Indiana history in original book are omitted to reduce selling price.") For a few decades, I have maintained a list of Books on Boyd families. I have not added to this list in some time. During my June 2013 trip to the USA, I obtained a list of 126 books at the Allen County Public Library, fort Wayne and the further list of about 30-40 books in the US Library of Congress. When I get some time in the New Year, I will have to add these books to the above list. SO IF YOU KNOW OF ANY BOOK CONCERNING A WHOLE BOYD BRANCH or A publication THAT MIGHT ONLY HAVE A FEW PAGES on a individual family BRANCH, could you please let me know so that I can add it to the above list. Just remember, while a few of these books say they represent the whole Boyd family, they do not. Most will only look at individual Branches even if they might cover up to 10 generations of that individual family. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    1. [BOYD] Updating the book "The Boyd family", by Arthur S. Boyd, jr. New York, L. E. Dorothy, 1924 - Boyd of Berwick, York County, Maine
    2. Mike Boyd
    3. Are there any descendants of of this family outlined in the above book on this list? Arthur S. Boyd on page 23 says that his family came to New England in about 1720 “Who Captain James married is not known, but he had at least three sons: James (2) William (3), and John 4. THE FIRST GENERATION IN AMERICA 2. JAMES BOYD, son of James Boyd (1), was born in Ireland about 1700, as he came to America with his brothers William and John about 1720. He landed in Boston, and settled in the town of York, in York County, in what is now the State of Maine. Maine was then part of the Colony of Massachusetts Bay, and all of what is now Maine was then known as the County of York. Whether he went there immediately or lived elsewhere at first is not known. York is but a few miles from Portsmouth, and in the "Point of Graves" Cemetery there is buried Andrew Boyd, son of Jaynes and Margaret Boyd, died May 8, 1727, aged 10 years. Also a James and Margaret Boyd are witnesses to a deed dated October 18, 1725, in York. The will of James Boyd, of Portsmouth, dated October 9, 1739, proved November 22, 1739, mentions a brother John, and a son of that brother, also John. There is nothing to identify these Jameses with James (2). James Boyd (2) finally settled in Berwick, a short distance from York, altho in just what year cannot be determined as the records of the town from 1736 to 1748 are lost. The town of Berwick, "alias Newgewanac", incorporated in 1713 (from which the towns of Berwick North Bet-wick, and South Berwick are formed), was the upper part of the town of Kittery, in Unity Parish, and was made the Parish of Berwick in 1681, but a division of the town, for certain purposes, had been made ten years before that, and a church was there as early as 1702. It is in York County-, and the town of York is bounded on the northwest by South Berwick, and on the southwest by Kittery, In 1723 Berwick was the most inland town next to Canada; and in 1830 the towns of Berwick, North Berwick, and South Berwick were formed from it. The site of James' farm stands in what is now South Berwick, about one mile south of North Berwick railroad station, and has been known as "Boyd's Corners" as far back as any one can remember. Mr. Elmer Boyd still occupies part of the old place, but the original buildings were burned in 1869, so many valuable records must have been lost.” While this book has much valuable information (along with a number of errors about the origins of the family), I think that it is due to be both updated and corrected. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

    3. James (1) and James (2) are two different men. James (1) is this guy: "York is but a few miles from Portsmouth, and in the "Point of Graves" Cemetery there is buried Andrew Boyd, son of Jaynes and Margaret Boyd, died May 8, 1727, aged 10 years. Also a James and Margaret Boyd are witnesses to a deed dated October 18, 1725, in York. There is nothing to identify these Jameses with James (2)." James (1) came in 1718 as part of the 1718 migration. He is a grocer in Portsmouth, NH and all evidence says he never left there. He died 1739. He has the above connections plus his daughter Mary becomes the wife of Rev. David McGregor, son of Rev. James McGregor. I'll finish his bio when I get home from Florida. I would be interested in any vitals data on James of Berwick. 2. Mike Boyd
    3. In 2006 this message was posted. “The Boyd Clan by Arthur S. Boyd Jr., 1924 UPDATES Christopher Anwyl Boyd After finding this website today, I started to scan in an old Boyd family history book published in 1924. I will try to add it to a website over Christmas vacation and let you know the URL. It goes down to my Great Aunt, who died at the age of 96. I found it in a library in Georgetown or Bath, Maine, for 25 cents when I was about 11. I can scan the complete Boyd and Stewart crests. I have the family bible from my grandfather, a Baptist minister from New Hampshire, which contained family tree information. I also have old portraits of some ancestors I can add if the interest is there. At that point, I can add my Grandfather Franklin James Boyd, Father James Franklin Boyd, Uncle Robert Boyd and his children, myself, and my children to complete the family branch. I also have some notes I jotted down somewhere on the family history as relayed from my Great Aunt before she died. As you must know, 3 branches settled in the United States. As far as I know, thanks to Viet Nam, I am the sole surviving male of the New England branch still living in New England. My uncle Robert Boyd and his family moved to St. Louis area. The son of Grace Boyd died in Viet Nam and I believe her daughter married and started Boyd Bears. Christopher Anwyl Boyd” I can’t recall why I did not put in Christopher Anwyl Boyd’s contact details. Chris are you still on this list? Or does anyone on this list know of him? If I also recall in the last few years the Boyd Bears people closed production – so someone on the list might have an old contact for that family as well. Hopefully, we can find some members of this Maine family whom can update Arthur S. Boyd’s book of 1924 AND MAKE CORRECTIONS to it. Thank you Mike Boyd Historical Committee, HBS

There are quite a number of both C of I and Presbyterian Churches in Ballymoney. It has only been in the last few weeks that I have begun to think of those Boyd Branches that might not be Presbyterian but Church of Ireland. The Boyds would have been Catholic in Scotland until the 5th Lord Boyd, Robert Boyd. Although he was a "Councillor" to Mary Queen of Scots during period of imprisonment in England and 30 named Boyds fought for her at Langside in 1568, I have found a source that said that he was a Protestant and had visited Knox the night before Knox died. It seemed that from this point that the Heads of the Clan became strong Presbyterians but we seem to have "several" Branches that were other religions such as Church of Ireland/England, Quaker, and Huguenot. So it is the origins of each of these three groups that we need to look at and where they might have come from, and which family branches formed of these groups. I will try to make a start to a list this week. 3. Colin The grave at Dunluce Church is situated - as you look at the Church from the road - on the left side between the fence and the front of the Church. It was a flat, at ground level, grave about 2 rows from the front of the Church and two or three yards to the left of the wall of the Church. It took all three of us about 20 minutes to clear and try to read the writing around the edge of the grave. Mr Kennedy was a merchant in Dunluce and a town in Ayrshire - either Ayr of Kilmarnock. Are you escaping the snow in PA? 1. Re: [BOYD] Boyd family cemetery at Long Cane, Troup County, GA
    2. Phil Boyd
    3. This is the reply I got from the Troup County Historian... The Henry Boyd Cemetery is in land lot 295 of the 5th land district of Troup County. There are no roads that cut through this property. The closest on can get to it on a road is to take, from LaGrange, U. S. Highway 27 South to Glass Bridge Road, go right onto Glass Bridge Road (it actually forks off U. S. Hwy 27 S.) and then turn left onto Kimbrough Road and at the end of Kimbrough Road, go straight across Lower Glass Bridge Road onto Old Potts road, which deadends at a piece of the backwater from Lake West Point. You still are not quite to land lot 295 and would have to walk west north west before finding land lot 295, which si 202.5 acres so it would be quite a lot of looking. You can also turn right at the end of Kimbrough Road onto Lower Glass Bridge road and then take a left onto Ferrell Tatum Road and go a short ways down that road and stop and get out of your car and walk south looking for it, but again, land lot 295 (as all regular land lots are, is 202.5 acres and you'll be looking for some time before you stumble onto the cemetery. However, I am not sure what purpose it would serve to find this cemetery as there are NO MARKED graves in that cemetery. The dates referenced in the Troup County Cemetery book and copied from it onto Find-A-Grave, to people who MAY or MAY NOT even be buried there are from a Family Bible, not from tombstones. Hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Gay Dasher Sent: Sunday, November 24, 2013 12:37 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BOYD] Boyd family cemetery at Long Cane, Troup County, GA The information that I have found is that The Boyd Family Cemetery is located in Land Lot 295 of land District 5. just west of Long Cane near the Chattahoochee River. 1. Re: [BOYD] Churches at Dunlucce and Derrykeighan, CountyAntrim
    2. Colin Brooks
    3. Mike, There is no Kennedy at the Dunluce cemetery that I can find. There is the Kar/Kerr and Boyd connection. maybe that is a Derrykeighan tombstone. (I am in Florida and my books are in Pennsylvania) Your question as to religion is unfortunately not an easy answer. Like most parish churches in Northern Ireland, you can not dictate a specific religion without a specific time frame. The church connected to that old Dunluce graveyard near the castle (that we visited) has been Catholic, Presbyterian, Church of Ireland. A quick splash of Covenanter can also be found pre-1772 when it's pastor moved on to SC. History proves (in Ulster) that one family and even one Pastor can be members of the Church of Ireland AND Presbyterian all within one lifetime. Our Boyd's are one of those specific families. So I will say that from settlement until post 1641, both churches were Presbyterian. After 1641 they became "official" Church of Ireland locations. However (and it's huge for these people) the minister was Presbyterian! And they stayed that way until late 1690s/early 1700 when they had governmental approval to reestablish Presbyterian churches. This is when they split by the building of separate churches. This is also the time that the functional elements of the old churches began to literally decay. Parish's as geographical locations are relatively fixed, old buildings fall apart and few from the 1600's were "rebuilt". A new church was always a better option. By the 1800's both parishes had separate Cof I, Presb. , and RC churches and that has stayed the course. With freedom of choice came freedom of options. Until 1720s, you had neither in Ulster, unless you lived near to a large population (think Coleraine, Londonderry, Antrim, Belfast, Ballymoney etc.). Burials also did NOT prove your religious choice. Mixed faith burials occurred all over Ulster until the 1800's. It was common and accepted. Regardless of the Genealogy Fact that you follow ancestors religion choices to determine family lines (which is absolutely legitimate); in ULSTER during the 1600's and most of the 1700's, there is NO proof that a persons choice of church worship indicates his direct ancestral line. There is absolute proof, that MANY Boyds and there wives moved amongst the Protestant religions, based on their personal choice more then a family choice. Some even switched in their lifetimes from one to another and back again. All major Protestant religions in Ulster during this time frame have significant Boyd membership and even leadership- Presbyterian; Quaker; Church of Ireland; Covenanter.
