It contains various members of the Boyd family, extracted from Vol. 2, pp.267-276 Can any of our Marylander cousin look up both versions to see what information these pages might have on John and Mary Boyd’s family please? In some notes on the family of John Boyd (1620-1705) it has “John, Mary, and all the children were buried on their plantation.” Hear I am assuming this “plantation” is Amphill Grange in Prince George’s County, MD. It also states she is from Chicago. In both publications it states that Benjamin is from Canada, gives the same birth date and occupation. They had the following children: Willard Eugene (1856-1927) Rosie (1859-1942) Lillian Amelia (1861-1902) Osbert Henry (Ossie) (1864-1929) Mary Esther (Mamie) (1867-) I have 2 censuses on Lillian; 1) 1870, Virgil, Kane ILL that says Benjamin is from New Brunswick, Canada and that Mary is from NY. Can't read the handwriting too well. 2) 1880, Virgil, Kane ILL that also says Benjamin is from New Brunswick, Canada and that Marys mother is from New York and her father is from Scotland. I have not found any collaborating data that verifies the prescence of any Boyd families in Herkimer County NY As far as the other information, I found an immigration list for a Mary Boyd immigrating in 1834 from Ireland to New York and that she was 5 yrs old at that time. For the life of me I can't find that link again or I would post it. (I used the word 'may' because that states a definite and as I am finding out, there is a whole lot of gray area to this genealogy stuff.) It would be interesting to see how far back his line can be traced. Also, I just remembered( I'm at work & don't have my pedigree charts handy) John Boyd was given a tract of 1000 acres by Lord Baltimore, He named it "Ample (or "Ampthill) Grange". It was in the area of Bowie/ Crofton, MD. I've seen the plat surveys of it at the MD Archives. It overlapped the PG - AA Co. lines. 3. Patricia It is not a question of when John Boyd died in Shelburne Falls, BUT if he is the same person who is said to have come with brothers James Boyd and William Boyd from Ireland in about 1720 and outlined in Arthur S. Boyd's book of 1924. John Boyd is the most common Boyd name, so can be quite easily confused with other John Boyd's. Oh! what does the death certificate of John Boyd of Shelburne Falls tell you about him and his family - how long in USA, where born, parents, etc I am hoping that some of the male Boyds from James Boyd's family and John Boyd's family have undertaken their 67 DNA marker test and compared their results. From my limited knowledge of DNA, they should be one marker difference which I think means that they have a common father. There is an fourth son, Samuel Boyd born 1718 at Knockavaddy Rock, between Cookstown and Dungannon, County Tyrone that people claim is also part of this same family. The eldest son of Samuel, James Boyd, came to South Carolina in 1795. So hopefully male Boyd members of this family can compare their DNA test with the two New England families to confirm (or not) that they came from the same family. After the snow clears, do you wish one of our New England/New York cousins to take a nice county drive to Shelburne Falls Library? 3. Yes Patricia during my 2012 trip to Texas, I did visit the Library at Houston. I even made sure that I got a hotel a block or two from the Public Library in the CBD only to find that I have to go about 5 or 6 tram stops to the other Library (allow being a visitor and not knowing the paying system, I did get a free ride). I lost one days research because the main library was closed and I did not find out until the second day that I could gone to the Genealogical Library. But I did get quite a bit of good information (which I still have to process). I also spent some days at the Austin Library as well. (But I did not ask either Library how large they were to compare to Dallas.) Houston has a very large genealogical collection, spanning two buildings. One entire building is devoted to family genealogies, while the other, much larger, building has everything else. It would be interesting to see how far back his line can be traced. It overlapped the PG - AA Co. lines.
