Thompson was a name that was "common" in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. So some of those Thompson's might have gone to County Antrim and been linked to this family. Although the towns of Andover and Greenwood lie in different counties, they border each other. More importantly, my grandfather (Mary's grandson) recalled that Mary's descendants frequently socialized with Daniel's descendants. For more information on the elusive and many-times-married Mary which includes some information on Daniel Boyd and his family, please see... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~streeter/thompson.pdf Thanks again for your past help in attempting to identify Mary's origins. If anyone ever identifies Daniel's specific origins that may yield "new" information towards identifying Mary's. Mary's branch on the family tree is the shortest and sparsest. Thank you Ray for these website. This would suggest that there is a MIGRATION PATH of Ballymena to Newberry Co., SC and then to Randolph Co., ILL. In the family of John Boyd (bc 1630) and Janet Logan of Ballymena, County Antrim, that links to the Magill's with the marriage of Sarah Boyd and George Frederic Magill, Sarah's mother was a Grace Hartley, who can trace her family back to Hugh Montgomery (Earl of Mont Alexander) of the Ards Peninsular in 1606. His Hugh was a 5th or 5th cousin to Colonel David Boyd who also settled there in 1606.. I know that a branch of the Magill's moved to SC (and there is a book on this branch). So did the "three" families move together from Ballymena, to SC and to Randolph Co., ILL? The "David Boyd of Randolph Co., ILL" MIGHT BE THE GRANDSON of John Boyd (bc 1760) who married Susan Neally - David Brown Boyd?. They came to SC about 1807 Hopefully this will allow all three families to follow this migration. Ann I will copy this reply to the Boyd List, so Darlene Amark of Arizona, USA, so she can reply to the details about her John Boyd born in 1777 in SC. We know that there were very many Boyd families in the NW corner of South Carolina. Some came down the Great Wagon trail from PA and MD into SC during the 1700's while a good number also came directly from Ireland. (I can't recall if any Boyd families came directly form Scotland.) I also know that there links between the Boyds and Pattersons in Kilmarnock, Ayrhsire, but I do not know if any members of these families moved to Ireland and then to America. Hopefully, someone on the Boyd list can link to the Boyds that you have listed Thank you Mike Boyd Brisbane, Aust. -----Original Message----- From: Ann C. Norman I had that thought last week and was going to do some research - which I have not had time to do. Thomas Boyd and Mary Loftus married about 1654 in Dublin (it is based on one of the Church records for Dublin that I found in 2010, but I will have to find the sources to check the data) They had six children - three boys and three girls. From memory Letita was the only one that lived to be married. I should be able to get time in a few days to research my records. Oh, this Thomas Boyd, the MP, was said to have lived in County Antrim - I think it was the Whitehouse area, but I will have to check. Author: Contribution Surnames: Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.boyd/7243/mb.ashx Message Board Post: NEW CONCORD: Charles Boyd, 56, of New Concord, Ohio passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the Morrison House Hospice, Zanesville, Ohio due to a sudden battle with cancer. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio June 6th, 1957 to Willis and Thelma Boyd. Charles was a devoted family man, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He proudly served in the United States Army, and was an outdoor enthusiast. He loved to fish and hunt, but his real talent lay in the kitchen. He could take things that had no right to be together and make something delicious out of them. He was especially adept at smoking various foods. He also enjoyed collecting antiques. Charles worked as a steel fabricator for 15 years at Knowlton's. He attended Tri Valley School, Dresden, Ohio. He was a wonderful husband, father, and Pap-pa. He is preceded in death by his son, Charles Boyd; his sister, Sherry Hittle; and his father, Willis Boyd. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Theresa Boyd; his son, John Boyd, and his daughter, Angel Boyd. He is remembered by his sister, Debbie (Mark) Sedlock of Columbus, his brother, Robert Boyd of Ironspot, Ohio; his sister, Dianne (John) Grusser of Zanesville, his sister, Becky Besser of Roseville, his brother, Donald Jenkins of Adams Mills, OH, his brother, Terry Boyd, and his grandchildren, Kathryn, Austin, Abigail, Zachary, Ethan, James, Joseph, and Jacob; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Calling hours for Charles will be held at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord (formerly the Mock Miller Funeral Home) on Tuesday, February 25th from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM. Services will be held on Wednesday the 26th at 11AM, with burial at the New Hope cemetery in Adamsville, Ohio following immediately thereafter. Would anyone know the Ancestors of this Thomas Boyd of Dublin. Thomas Boyd of the house of Kilmarnock MP for Bangor Co-Down, 1651, married Mary daughter of Sir Adam Loftus of Rathfarnham, his only surviving child Letita married William Lord Boyd, son and successor to William Boyd first Earl of Kilmarnock Hamilton Manuscripts. If Thomas Boyd was of the House of Kilmarnock, he was related to Col. David Boyd of Tourgill, who had land in Co- Down, who was also of the House of Kilmarnock, could he be a grandson?
