List I am just in the process of answering a Email that I received while I was away by someone who went to County Antrim to to find where their relatives lived and while I was at PRONI a couple from Iowa, US where trying to find their ancestors in County Antrim, but did not know where in Antrim they came from. Both point to the need to tell the list, so others can help you with your visit and point out some of the likely places. People on his list might already know your family and be able to tell you which house, Church, Cemetery, farm etc your family came from. While others might be able tell you where you may nee to go find some of this information at the Local Studies Library and even if there is an local historian in that area that might be able to help. You are not the FIRST Boyd to go back to Ireland, Scotland, etc to look for your family, so you need to get full value for your trip (as it might be the only one your make) and it would be a great pity if because you did not ask the “corporate knowledge” of this list and other lists – such as the the LOCATION net list at rootsweb.com – that you missed out on seeing something that other people might have been able to help you. (My late wife’s cousin was working in London in the early 1980’s and was going to County Donegal to visit the area where his ancestors 6 generation before lived. He and his wife visited the village and spoke to the Post Office but he was not able to help, but the Post master sent him to visit a Mrs Cassidy who was the oldest person about, in her 80’s, whoever when he got to her house she had come to town to go some shopping from the farm she lived on. So he took some photos of the house and area around it which we got a few weeks later. My wife was able to advise him that was the house that his family had lived in the 1850’s. But when I visited in 2005, the old house had been pulled down to build a brand new house.) You will need to take as much information with you as is known by your family, so that can be used by people in the Country you are visiting and not trust your own memory. Even if you take County Antrim – which is only about 40 by 20 miles or 60 or 30 kms in area – you could be looking in the wrong corner altogether. So if you are thinking of going to the County of your families origins next northern Summer, start shortly to tell the list shortly so it can help you “plan” your trip, etc And you visit, you can’t do it in a single day. You will need to talk to “locals” on the ground – who might be out shopping the day you call – or be able to point you to other people whom might be bale to help you. When I was at PRONI recently I found this single line of information:- “Margaret Boyd 30 December 1713 her sister husband Gilbert Hamilton” I think it was from a County Down list, but I did not make a note of what kind a list it came from. (i) What does this one line mean? (ii) So who was this Gilbert Hamilton? (iii) Who was Margaret Boyd’s sister? (iv) And where in Ireland – or in County Down – did these two families live? (v) Did it mean that Margaret Boyd was leaving “something” to Gilbert Hamilton? And does it mean that Margaret Boyd was unmarried and had no children in 1713? I would like your view please. Currently, the athletic teams of Presbyterian College are called the "Blue Hose". Earlier this season Presbyterian played a football game against my alma mater Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. When the sports announcer used the term "Blue Hose" I wasn't sure that I had heard it correctly so unusual did it sound. That led me to look it up and confirm that I had heard it correctly. (I am pleased to report that Miami won the game. But Presbyterian did play a tough game.) This is to let list members know that I am home after 6 weeks away in Vancouver, Canada, West Coast USA, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Dublin. By the weight of my carry one bag, I have found quite a bit of new Boyd family information, which I will have to share with members over the next few weeks as I sort this data out. As with all trips, I was disappointed that I did not meet more Boyds and Boyd descendants, but it will still be a very busy year, as I process all the information that I have collected. Mike Boyd

I have found some other Boyd's in Reynolds County And in adjoining ones that might fit, but nothing concrete yet. However, it is astonishing to me that we can not find one single marriage for Mary Jane out of the 3 or 4 men that she was supposed to have married except for Elijah Warner to Mrs Mary Mofield and we don't know for sure that is the same man and woman. The only time we actually find her with any of these men is in 1880 with Elijah Warner and that is BEFORE the marriage record we found. I do notice that Dunklin County, Missouri where the Warner's were from in 1870 is adjacent to Arkansas and if I remember correctly only one county over from Lawrence County, Arkansas where the marriage took place. I have looked at just about every conceivable misspelling or variation of the names involved and so far have found no marriages. Something is off here. I have also tried tracing all of the children from each of the "marriages" but it seems that I run into roadblocks every time due to being unable to access the records or there are none. The children's records are the best bet, but will cost money and time to obtain any available records as they are not available in any of the databases I have searched so far that are free to the public. But surely there is the possibility of information on some of the children's records. It would just take time and effort to obtain it. Still searching! Also just found where someone posted a photo of the Heffingtons which included Gertrude, her husband and several of her kids. Also, from that picture, I learned that a brother Claude Warner and his wife Josie Lee Heffington, sister to Gertrude's husband was in the photo. So I ran down some info on Claude too. I didn't know about him as I never saw him on the census for some reason. If I have the correct Elijah, I can tell you about his brothers and sister if you want that info including William Jasper Warner who lived in Black River Twp also. Elijah's uncles, brothers of Samuel Jr, included my ancestor William Volner who never used Warner, Benjamin Warner who used Volner sometimes but mainly Warner(His descendants used Warner and one son used Vaulner), and Thomas Volner who I know nothing about. I believe there were a couple of other brothers but there named remain a mystery so far. He also had several sisters but I haven't placed them yet. They are even harder to find. I do believe he had a sister named Elizabeth Warner who married a Smothers, probably Ely Smothers in my opinion. My line is through brother William .volner who married Mary Polly Weeks/Wix in 1817 in Sumner Co, TN. He had a lot of children and descendantsl. All of them used Volner. William's son ,John, and all of his children completed Eastern Cherokee Applications in 1908. If they had not done so, We would no next to nothing about this family. However, he was the youngest son and many of the older Family members were deceased by 1908. So, although he knew a lot, he did not know everything and I think he got some info wrong or guessed, including where and when his grandparents died. He also could only list four children of his grandparents. I believe. There were possibly at least 8 or 9. He said he only recalled hearing about his father William, of course, and uncles Thomas and Benjamin. He did not mention Samuel Jr. But I have no doubt he was a son too. John Volner lived in Texas County, MO and he had about 20 kids, some of which were twins and some of the twins died in infancy. William and Mary (Weeks/Wix) Volner also had a son named William Wilkerson Volner, who married Nancy Boren in Robertson Co, TN and moved to Reynolds County, MO. He had two sons, William Monroe and Elias Volner. They each have numerous descendants in Reynolds County and surrounding counties such as Iron and St Francois. Majority lived in Black River township area. William and Mary (weeks) Volner had children, Elias and Samuel whose descendants are mainly still in Tennessee. William moved most of his children to Union County, Illinois, although he originally intended to go to the Nation in Oklahoma. Due to approaching winter, they got as far as Turnback Mountain in southwestern, Missouri, and came back across the Mississippi to "make crop" and then go on. But instead they stayed in Union County, Illinois in southern Illinois. Many descendants live there also. Two daughters moved to Missouri and lived in St Francois, Washington Counties area with husbands and children. I can give details on Samuel Jr's family which may help. Even possibly with finding the Boyd's. I can send some info to your email address. Will also continue searching for info on Elijah and on the Boyds to see if we can find more puzzle pieces. I've been hoping to touch base with anyone researching this line and time frame. I feel Mary Lackey was hiding something about her Boyd children and the unknown Boyd. Too many brick walls...no records. The family story is he got up and walked away one day, never came back. I wonder if there is even a "Boyd"? It's interesting twins run in the Warner line. It does in the Boyd line as well. How strange that we both have mystery men tied to Mary Lackey. Any help or input is very appreciated! I am fairly new to this. I do have more on Warner siblings. Maybe another pair of eyes will help. I also find Mary Jane Lackey interesting. This isn't my direct line but my goal is to track down all of the Warners and Volners. Elijah Warner is also an enigma. His age on the 1880'census and his place of birth does not match what the other censuses show. But I have run into that problem with all of the Volners and Warners. Some are off by ten years and their tombstone dates don't always match the censuses and other records. Sometimes I think they are hiding as they were Indian and that wasn't a good thing back then. But by the 1930s you would think it wouldn't have been as bad. I have Elijah on the 1850 and 1860'census but he is no longer in the household of his widowed mother and his two youngest brothers in 1870 Dunklin County, MO. He must have been out on his own somewhere but can't seem to find him. The Volners seemed to gravitate around Lawrence County, Arkansas for some reason, so that was how I found a marriage for him there in the first place. I personally think their Cherokee relatives had gone to Arkansas around 1817 with the Cherokee Old Settlers. A Cherokee named Knife was on the 1817 list. That was Elijah's grandmother, Sinthie's last name and was probably the name of her father as that is how the Cherokee did things. They took as their last name the name of their father. This Knife was from ?Sail Creek, Hamilton Co, TN from what I have learned. The Volners/Warners went to Arkansas as they were on the Lawrence County Arkansas Territory tax lists in 1831. At least Samuel Sr and son William were listed as heads of household. But then they went back to Tennessee Within a couple years. I think I have the right Elijah Warner, but I could be wrong. I want to find something to prove it one way or another. Gertrude Warner Heffington had twins. I find that is rare in my years of doing genealogy. The Volners/ Warners seemed to have a lot of twins. So that is one checkmark towards proof. Also the fact that the Warners, Volners, Lackeys, and even a Boyd family were all in the same township in Black River, Reynolds County is another. But I could still be wrong. I hope not but it wouldn't be the first time! Elijah was born in about 1844 in Tennessee according to the 1850'and 1860'censuses. But he is listed as born 1851 in Missouri on the 1880. That is a bit troubling but not really because, as I mentioned earlier, the censuses are constantly messed up for the Volners/Warners. Wish Imcoukd find him on the 1870. Also, I wonder if he and Mary Jane Lackey were divorced or if Elijah died. I did find a record that said an Elijah Warner was injured when a boiler exploded in 1895-6 in Dunklin County, MO. It did not say that he was killed, only injured. I don't know if that is a younger Elijah or not. Also, there was a marriage for an Elijah Warner to a Mahala Pierce around 1897(need to go back and check dates ) in Clay Co, Arkansas which is where some of the other Warners were living. I have wondered if this was the same Elijah. He was quite old a bit older than Mahala. Can't remember ages off the top of my head. Will have to check again. I will keep looking for Mary Jane's Boyd husband also. If the lady who is descended from Elijah wants any more info on the Warners Imcan provide that. The name Alfred, Joseph and William have been tossed around as his first name, but I don't know for sure. His children have always been listed as Boyd's. I think he had to be around during 1867 thru 1874-76. I say 1874-76 because Joseph is 6 years old on the 1880 census, but remember Alfred's age is off by 2 years on this record. Where are Isabel (Belle) and Joseph in 1876? Mary and Alfred are with Elizabeth Smith in Reynolds, MO. Belle and Joseph should about 4 and 2 according to the 1880 census. Are they with unknown Boyd? I realize Boyd is not your bloodline but I think you are right he has to be close. I keep hitting brick walls. Any help is appreciated! I think Mary Lackey is very interesting. MERCER Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: Lavelda, Since the Warner name was new to me I decided to go back to the last name Lackey and see what I could find. Also kept searching for Alfred Boyd since I did find something on him. I found an AM Boyd on the 1876 census for Missouri Reynolds County Township 31. Also listed was an MJ Packey but I think it was a typo in fact I know it is because it's actually Lackey as a Nancy and John Lackey are listed as well. Head of household is Elizabeth Smith there's also a Sarah Smith a CC Smith and MS Smith listed. So this is where Smith comes into play. At this point I started looking for Nancy Lackey. I find her along with Elizabeth and Mary and the head of household being William Lackey on the 1860 census for Missouri Reynolds County Black River. At one point I search for Mary Smith thinking I might find something with Mary and the unknown Boyd. I come up with Mary Mofield marrying and Elijah Warner March 5th, 1883 in Arkansas County on the marriage index. I am pretty sure I had a copy of the record noting the last name Smith. I can't find it now. My assumption is all names fit but yes dates are off from 1880 census -this most definately could be wrong. I also found a marriage record for Elizabeth Lackey and her maiden name was Coil marrying a James Smith in 1863. The 1870 US Census for Missouri Reynolds County Black River has an Elizabeth Smith as head of household other Smith's listed are Mary, Nancy, John, Sarah, Caroline and a M??????. Also in household is Alfred Boyd he is 2 years old. Why the Lackey children are listed as Smith I don't know? I think it is safe to say this is our same group of people. The 1900 US Census for Indian Territory, Creek Nation, Township 10 district 068 I found Joe Boyd Head, JM Mercer (Mary Jane?) Mother, Sherman , Gertie Warner, Cleo Mercer as siblings. So Mary married again. The 1910 census for OK, Pittsburg, Dow has Sherman Warner Head, Mary Mercer Mother, Cleo Mercer sister and John Lackey brother. Mary is on 1930 census with the spelling Murcer. My only relation to Warner is through Mary Lackey and her story is very interesting. I found most of her records while trying to find my paternal great great grandpa - unknown Boyd. It has been a while since I worked on this. It does not surprise me with the name mix up. I came across Elijah Warner on the 1880 census for MO, Jasper, Belville. He is listed with Mary, Mansfield WARNER and Alfred, Isabel and Josephus BOYD. The Boyd children are listed as step chidren. I had never heard Warner before but Alfred is my great grandpa, his siblings were Joe and Belle. I made the assumption off the siblings and mother being Mary. There is a discrepancy with Alfred's age, census states he is 10 but he was born in 1868. A different age was noted and crossed out. They appear to have been married prior to 1880 and lived together as man and wife on the 1880'census. Yet the marriage license wasn't until 1883 as Mrs. Mary Mofield? How was this possible? Is this the right marriage. Or was the marriage record transcribed wrong? I don't have a copy of the marriage, only the index record. Do you? I also tried to locate the name of Mary Jane Lackey's first husband, Boyd. Still looking. I had found a Boyd family in Reynolds County, MO where Mary Jane lived who had several daughters. But appear to have only had eone son unless he was not listed in their household. Their son appears to have been killed in the Civil Warmper the Reynolds County Civil War registration records. At first I thought he could be the one but then looked again at the ages and realized the Boyd children were born after that so he couldn't be their father. I feel like he must have been from the Reynolds County area, however. I haven't checked Iron County or any other surrounding county yet.
