Will of Joseph Johnston, Washington Co, KY, Feb 1, 1826 filed March 28, 1826 In the name of God amen, I Joseph Johnston of Washington County and State of Kentucky being in perfect health and of sound and ________ mind memory and _________considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of life or of the time thereof and being anxious to settle my worldly affairs and thusly be prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following, that is to say, I give and bequeath unto my grandson, George Bowls all the land lying on the west side of Cane Run to John K_____ line, my daughter Elizabeth Bowls to live her life on the said land and after her death to said George Bowls and his heirs and _______ forever. 2nd, I give and bequeath unto my grandson James Bowling all the balance of the land on the east side of Cane Run, my daughter Monica Bowling have her life in said land and after her death to said James Bowling his heirs and ______forever. 3rd, I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Polly Johnston a negro boy by the name of Richard and if the said Polly dies without lawful heirs the said boy Richard to fall to the children of Elizabeth Bowls and Monica Bowling the boy Richard to be hired out every year and the money to be applied to the use of the said Polly Johnston until she arrives to the age of twenty one years. 4th, I give and bequeath to my grandson Benedict Canter a negro woman named Mary and her _____to him and his heirs forever the said Benedict Canter to pay unto his two _____ now in the city of Washington one hundred dollars each to be paid out of his property that bequested to him. 5th, I give and bequeath unto my grandchildren Joseph Iayman (sp?)and Kitty Ann and Elizabeth Bowling a negro boy by the name of Benjamin to be equally divided share and share alike to them and their heirs and ______ forever; my daughter Monica Bowling to have her life in the said negro Benjamin and after her death the the above children and their heirs and ______ forever. 6th, my negro man Allen to be hired or sold and the money that he hires or sells for to be put upon interest until the children of Elizabeth Bowls comes of age and then the money to be equally divided between Kullett (sp?) Kitty Kethildies (sp?) and Cynthia Ann Bowls to their heirs and ____ forever. 7th, I give and bequeath to my son John Johnston his heirs and _____ forever a negro man Raul by name and a negro woman named R___? and my waggon and gear and four hundred dollars that I lent him- Lastly the remainder of my estate to be sold at public sale and tow hundred dollars of this money to be divided between my grandchildren namely Alatilda Kitty Alexander Lucretia and Mary McDaniels equally to share and share alike to them and their heirs forever-the balance of any after my just debts are paid to be equally divided between my children John Johnston, Monica Bowling and Elizabeth Bowls equally I also bequeath unto Benedict Canter my horse saddle and bridle and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Johnston and William Bowling to be executors to this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made (ratify?) and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament.
