    3. Hi, In researching my Bolin line, I have come across many spellings for that surname. My ggggg-grandfathers name was spelled Bowling on his marriage bond in 1808. He owned land in Morgan County, IN and his name was spelled Bourland. The spelling of the surname was finally settled on as Bolin (for my line) in the late 1800's. I believe the different spellings can be credited to the various clerks who spelled the name as they thought it should be spelled. Since most of the persons back then couldn't read or write, they didn't know to correct the clerks. If you want to see a list of all the different spellings that are acceptable for Bowling, please go to the webpage I created for Bolin Resources Online at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/8056/bolin_resources.html Leslie ----Original Message----- From: Crbourland@aol.com <Crbourland@aol.com> To: BOWLING-L@rootsweb.com <BOWLING-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, August 25, 1998 7:33 PM Subject: Bourland >Anyone researching who believes BOURLAND to be an acceptable spelling of >BOWLING, much in the fashion ROB*SON is used for Robinson, Robertson? > >Do you have Bourlands in your line? >
