Hello! I'm looking for a David BOWLING who is buried in Tallapoosa, Harralson Co. GA. Could this be the same David BOWLING that you have information on? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Happy Hunting! Julie Anne MAWJAW@aol.com
I am searching for information about my ancestors on my mother's side of the family. My mother was named Emma 1907-1985. her mother was Polly [McKnight] Bowling married to william "Blue Bill" Bowling. They lived in s.e. Ky somewhere around Elkhorn, Buckhorn or Bowlingtown. Unfortunately that is as much as I know. If anyone has any information I would surely appreciate any help. My eMail is rbegley@seidata.com Thank you Rufus Begley, Sunman, In.
Does anyone have info on John William BOLLING who m. Mary JEFFERSON 24 Jan 1760 in Goochland Co., VA? Interested in their daughter, Mary Bolling, who m. Edward Archer 10 Apr 1797 Jamestown, James City, VA. Carole cspencer@sbt.net
Hi. I just joined the Bowling Mail List. My interest is finding the ancesters of John Wesley Boldin, b. 1843 in Alexandria Co., VA, m. Ella Jane Donaldson in 1885, d. 1908 in Alexandria Co., VA (Ballston). His Civil War Alias was John Boling. He served in Co. D, 3rd PA Cav. (1861). He had a brother, George W. Boldin, b. 1845 in Alexandria Co., VA, m. Alice Donaldson, d. 1880 in Alexandria Co., VA. His Civil War Alias was George Boulden, and the birthdate on his discharge papers was given as 1843. He served in an Eastern Shore MD Regiment. We have no information except for family stories that three Boldin brothers arrived in this country at the Port of Alexandria, VA in the mid to late 1700's. One stayed in the area and no one knows where the other two went. They are thought to be of Scotch/Irish descent. I have requested Civil War Pension Files for John Wesley Boldin, alias Boling but have been given a run around by both NARA and Veterans Affairs. I finally found out that the files are in storage in Maryland. It could be months - or years - before I get any information from them. -- Marge Boldin Milner For those whose ancestral origins are unknown, "The truth is out there..." In case some of you on the list corresponded with Alice in Houston - she died suddenly of a heart attack late Wednesday, January 21. Sitting at her computer doing e-mail when she suddenly felt unwell. Alice was a Blue Bolling. She explained several times about the Red, White, and Blue Bollings and signed it "Alice in Houston" We will all miss her! Betty in Houston

I have a tree left by my father. He had done a lot of research on the family, a lot from talking with the old timers, and several statments from his great-grandmother. Samuel Bowling m. Abigal Choice, one of their children, Samuel Bowling II m. Molly Williams, I would like to have some info on thier children, Daniel, Jordan, Nathaniel, David (later a judge), John, Samuel and Sanford( I believe were twins), Laura, Wiliam E. and Amanda ( whom I already have a little info on), and most of all Martin Colstan Bowling ( my great- great- grandfather) m. Ciziah Jane Bridges and I have fairly good info from there with the exception of a few dates. I have looked for Martin Colstan Bowling on the Confederate muster rolls that I have acess to on the internet. My father told me he served two times. I think the first was in a TN. Cavalry. Then again in a Georgia unit as a quatermaster. I have his Confederate drill manual, but cannot get to this or his quartermaster notebook as I am in Okinawa Japan. I would certainly appreciate anybodys help in this quest.
I was doing some research today, and ran accross these Sumner county marriages, and thought I'd share. I only have the dates and spouses for the Grooms side, sorry! Hi friends, While surfing found the VA Lib, which included a list of names (almost 700 BOLLINGS) from a source called: R. Bolling Batte Papers, under the heading Genealogy. What follows is a brief description of the source, but it says also that some of the pages have notes which say what the source is... Sounds good if you can find a likely candidate! > http://198.17.62.51/collections/cc_archive.html#bio Becky Description of Collection Robert Bolling Batte was born in Norfolk, Virginia on 13 August 1906. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1928. He later earned an LL.B. degree from Virginia College of Law. Batte was an engineer with the C & P Telephone Co. and a resident of Richmond. Batte died in Petersburg on 3 June 1996 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, Virginia. Batte compiled an extensive collection of genealogical and historical research notes and files. Part of the collection consists of more than 30,000 index cards containing biographical information compiled from a variety of original and secondary sources. Each entry contains information on date and place of birth, full names of parents, date and place of marriage(s), spouse's name, education, public offices held, profession, military service, date and place of death, and place of burial. A second card image contains extracts from pertinent documents, tombstone inscriptions, obituary notices and a listing of the subject's children. Each entry also contains codes referring to an index of the sources used in the compilation of the card file.
I have some serious questions for serious Bowling researchers. from "Some Prominant Virgina Families." States that a John Bolling b. 1737 married Martha, sister of Thomas Jefferson. BUT, "Thomas Jefferson, and Intimate History", Brodie says this sister was Mary. Can we clear this up. Second, The children of Maj. John Bolling m. Elizabeth Blair are listed as Thomas 1735; John 1737 m. sister of Thomas Jefferson; Robertb. 1738; Mary b. 1744; Sarah b. 1748; Archibald b. 1750 and Ann b. 1752. I am supposed to be descended from Benjamin Bowling also of this union b. 1734. He is not listed in the book "Prominant Families...." Can someone tell me anything about any of this? If anyone knows the url or email for the Bowling Family Association, I'll ask there if no one on this list knows. Thanks marsha

Thanks to the list and especially to Darwin <bg> I have found my James Paul BOWLIN in Madison Co., KY! After checking with other Bowling/Bolling researchers, I can now state emphatically that he was the son of Blevins BOLLING & Harriet [?]/Ester HENSLEY! Listed with Blevins [age 52] & Harriet [age 40] in the 1870 census were: Ely, age 18 Frank age 15 James age 12 Marthey age 14 Cassie age 8 Henry L. age 5 I do not know if this is all of their children, however. Blevins has been previously listed as *BEVE* and Harriet as *ESTER* Is Harriet a second wife or is she *Ester* Hensley? Hope someone can shed some light on my Blevins Bolling and any others who connect to this line.... I love this list!! <giggles> This has been a 2 year search & dead ends all the way until now!!! Thanks for anything on this family, Sandi

Southern Trails is a list for people studying the migration routes our ancestors took as they populated and relocated in the US South. Although settling new areas was not an easy thing to do for a lot of our forefathers, they certainly moved around a lot. A group of friends and relatives would pull up sticks and head for new territory, sometimes several times in one lifetime. My ideas for this list is that we will discuss the migration routes themselves, how people moved, why they moved, and try to identify the groups of people who took these routes. To subscribe to the list, send a message to: Southern-Trails-L-request@rootweb.com In the body of the message, put only the word subscribe To subscribe to the digest, send a message to: Southern-Trails-D-request@rootsweb.com To post a message to the list, send your message to Southern-Trails-L@rootsweb.com Hope to see you soon!
