There is a Web Sites that pertains to the problems with Halberts. The US Postal Service and the United States Genealogical Society had taken Halberts to court and there is a Cease and Desist Restraining order again Halberts. Restricting them as to what kind of materials he can sell through the mail. There are addresses and phone numbers listed. I do not have the URL anymore, but it is easy to find using a search engine. _________________________________________ Dear List Members In re (HALBERTS in Bath, Ohio) My local postmaster advised me to send a letter to the postmaster in Bath, Ohio complaining about the worthless genealogy books published and sold by Halberts of Bath, Ohio. I have written one and am including it here for those who don't want to take the time to write one. You may use mine if you want. Print it and use it if you want. You must add your name and address at the bottom of the page. Please invest the time and the 32 cents for the stamp and hopefully we can put these leeches out of business once and for all. If that postmaster is deluged with complaints perhaps something will happen. You also have my permission to forward this Email to all of your surname lists and genealogy friends as a warning about the book AND a plea to write letters to the postmaster in Bath, Ohio. The Letter is attached. If you want to add to it, fine. As far as I know Halberts have been working out of Bath, Ohio for more than 30 years. I can't imagine the millions of dollars in profits made off the backs of honest genealogists in the USA (and Canada) in that vast amount of time. The books they sell are nothing but a generic history of the BOYD name (or whatever name) with thousands of telephone listings thrown in. I have a copy in my hands right now and I am telling you they are worthless to the genealogist and to the common person. There is no data in the book that you cannot find in a library or phone book in a few short minutes. These people have been operating out of Bath, Ohio for years and you know it. I'll bet you have had hundreds (perhaps thousands) of complaints about Halberts and this person named Leroy C. Boyd in the past. I'll bet Leroy Boyd does not even exist. These people have been leeching money from unsuspecting family oriented roots seeking people for years, even decades and it is time to stop them. Do you have any connection with this company (Halberts) or with Leroy C. Boyd with address of: 3687 Ira Road, Bath, Ohio? I appreciate your honesty. Also--Will you please supply me with the name and address of the Postmaster General with whom I may make a louder complaint? Thank You. Benjamin Bolling/Bowling of Wise Co. area of Va. fathered Jeremiah Bolling/Bowling who married Sally Ward. They had 11 of 13 children to survive. Polly Bolling/Bowling was either a sister to Jeremiah Bolling/Bowling, or a daughter of one of the offsprings of Jeremiah's . We know one married an Issac Back. Another was born in 1838, and a daughter of Jonathan Bolling/Bowling. We are interested in who Polly married. Hopefully it was a Tayler Gilley, my G/Father. Polly was supposed to have been from Ky, rather than from Va. Letcher Co. Ky census of 1880 shows Alfred T. Gilley, married to "Mary", with 7 children, all from Va., inclusive of G/Parents. Anyone having information on this particular Mary "Polly" Bolling/Bowling, please let me know. ( Polly is known to be a nickname for Mary.) She was supposed to be married to Tayler Gilley, both parents of James Shaler Gilley of Letcher Co. Ky. born in Eolia, Ky. Thank you. Tim :-}}}
> Does anyone have any good sites to do Civil War research? Try the American Civil War Homepage (URL: http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/warweb.html). It has lots of resources. For example, under "Rosters of Combatants" you can find my Civil War Units File, which lists people who have volunteered to be contacts for units, and to try to help people research them. Am interested in Jeremiah Bolling, son of Benjamin Bolling of Wise Co., Va., and the Brothers/Sisters of Jeremiah Bolling. In particular Polly Bolling, a sister, and to whom was she married and when? Any other Polly Bolling as descendants by birth, as well as to whom married, and when. Am looking for (Mary) Polly Bolling, wife of Tayler Gilley, parents of James Shaler Gilley of Letcher Co., Ky. This particular Bolling was from Ky, and not Va. Thanks one and all. Tim :-}}}

I saw this on the Melungeon listing and am posting it to the Bowling listing....Thanks!!!!!! ==== ubj: Re: [Melungeon-L] Jason Walker Bolling, KY 1898 Date: 98-07-19 11:31:49 EDT From: lawson@crosslink.net Reply-to: Melungeon-L@rootsweb.com To: Melungeon-L@rootsweb.com This came from the Dickey Diary, from Rev. Dickey who collected oral histories of families during the era. I saved it from: Return-Path: <VALEE-L-request@rootsweb.com> Resent-Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 13:15:38 -0700 (PDT) From: Ykmjk@aol.com deposition of jason walker bolling. benge ky, june 15, 1898 my great grandfather, jesse bolling, came to kentucky in 1810. my grandfather elijah bolling was born at the three fork of powell river in lee co. va in 1798, and when he was 12 years old his father removed to perry co ky. daniel duff baptized my grandfather, elijah bolling. rev. andrew baker baptized my great grandfather at blackwater church now hawkins co tennessee. my great great grandfather was major john bolling. he had 19 sons, william bolling married martha jefferson, sister of thomas jefferson, president of the united states. other sons were, jesse above mentioned, benjamin the oldest born 1752 or 3, jesse was born 1765. robert the wife of u.s. senator, archibold dixon, was the daughter of dilany bolling of missouri and the granddaughter of major john bolling, aforesaid. gov. john young brown's wife was a daughter of archibald dixon. (roger cornett, son of the original william cornett built the house where hamp. coldiron lives, in 1802 he married zilpha callahan. this makes the date of the cornett's coming to kentucky 1796-1799 probable. men from crug's ferry at mouth of sexton were at the raising. roger cornett was in slaves and land. he owned the coleman survey. patented in 1783, 5600 acres.) there are bollings in western ky. one went to congress some years ago. perhaps 1870 or 1872. the first bolling who came to american was colonel robert bolling of london england. i think old cava baker made the rhyme on the "cattle war". i have always heard it that way. old julius bob baker and william neal were in st. clair's defeat. baker held a major's commission. they are both buried buffalo, owsley co. neal requested to be buried beside baker. john gilbert and john amis married sisters of james bolwing, eli, john, grandfather of judge josiah combs' wife,christopher, william, joseph, nancy (sizemore) was another sister from these have descended most of the bollings in clay county. jesse bolling, my great grandfather, married mary pennington in lee co. va. he was born in north carolina at hillsboro. his father was born in va. david pennington, her brother, was living during the war of the rebellion. my grandfather, elijah bolling, stayed with him in lee co during the late war. jesse bolling had children as follows; hannah married huff; mary married abram barger; justice married ?????; john married polly lewis; jesse married lewis for his second wife; william married a daughter of daniel duff elijah married roberts; george married lewis; a daughter married joseph spencer; betsy married abel pennington; another married haggard; another died single. a.p. hill and basil duke married sisters of john morgan. his mother was the daughter of john hunt, the first millionaire in ky.

Need information about Bailey T. BALDING found 1840 Fed Census of Pulaski Co MO, page 225. Is this a variation of the Bowling/Bolian/Bowlin name? It appears to me to be. Are there any researchers out there working on this individual?
At first glance there is a connection to the Tarpley Bollings/Bowlings, in that area. Get the booklette from Pat Michael written by Judge Price Wells. If you can find cemeterys, that will clear up a lot. I have to wonder who the Sulivan is the County was named for, as Sullivans intermarried with Meta, and Nancy Bolling. Hi Phyllis, I was reading your posting to Ken, and I would like to ask you a few questions. I do and have done some research in Sullivan Co., TN. The John Bolings in Sullivan Co., are going to make me go bonkers. This is mine. Descendants of John Bolin, Sr. 1 John Bolin, Sr. b: Abt. 1758 in Henry Co., VA d : Abt. 1845 in Sullivan Co., TN . +Elizabeth Bolin b: 1775 d: Bef. 1850 in Sullivan Co., TN .......2 John Boling, Jr. .......2 Isaac Boling .......2 Tolliver Boling b: Abt. 1804 (Age 56)1860 Census d: January 1871 in Sullivan Co., TN ....... +Telitha Boling b: 1818 Age 42 1860 Census d: Aft. 1880 but before 1900 ...........3 Larkin Boling b: October 26, 1833 in Big Creek, Sullivan Co., TN : July 28, 1904 At Home, Big Creek, Sullivan Co., TN ..................+Jane G. Stewart b: April 19, 1841 in Roanoke Co., VA d: June 1, 1909 in Sullivan Co., TN Mine can easily be proven by deeds found in the Sullivan Co., TN Courthouse. I do not know what other people are using for their information and documentation. I feel this is what we all need to know, so we can figure out who belongs to whom. Please help me. One group of Boling are saying that one John was married to Elizabeth Blair and they are buried someplace in VA. Now you are saying John was married to Mary Tarpley, and they are buried in the Bolling Cem. in Sullivan Co., TN. Where is this Cem. does anyone know?? John Jr., Isaac, and Tolliver are the only 3 children I found mentioned by John Sr. in deeds. I think there had to have been more children. I am posting this to you, but also on the Bowling-L list to see what we may all come up with, please let me know. Kathy Bowling McKown SKMcKown@aol.com
