I found a listing in Hill County, Texas for land deeds. This was the original land owner when the land was surveyed. No date was given on the list. It listed Jesse C. Bolin Abstract # 62 Kaye

I use my spelling BOWLING and use / and the other spelling like this: BOWLING/BOLLING and then when I want to find the person, all I have to do is type in the first name and BOWLING and it will come up. That way it will show you both spellings and you will know the person used a different spelling than yours. That is hard to explain but I hope I made it clear. It's just a suggestion. Delaney and Sara Spicer Bowling's son Delaney Jr. married a McWhorter but I don't have her first name. My record shows he was born in 1855 but shows no death date or anything else. Delaney Sr. was the son of Elijah 1801 Lee Co., VA-20 Oct 1883 Laurel Co., KY. and Susannah Roberts Dau of Jesse and Nancy Anderson Roberts. Elijah was my GG Grandfather. I think Delaney Sr. was a very colorful character. I know where he is buried for I have been there and copied the information from his stone. It is at Greenmount in Laurel Co. I have more on this family if you think it is yourss. Maxine
Hi all, I am researching the many Bollings of Virginia. Over the years many people have written on these families, and there is strong evidence some of these have been misresearched. It may be that some of you have the evidence in the forms of old letters, bibles, or other material which will help all of us to get these right, once and for all. Bolling documentation is poor, and much misinformation has been written about the Bollings of the Powhatan/Rolfe connections. An effort to find the original sources for much of this information has turned up the fact that Judge Robertson, brother of Wyndham Robertson, a mover and shaker of the book Pocahonta's Descendants, heard voices, and this is documented. For example, he was told by God in a clear voice in old bible words to write about Pocahontas' Descendants. His words. (And he did!, It is a real mess. There is evidence this Holy War Bolling descendant may have been involved in digging out graves, and destroying tombstones.) We can not depend on the Judge Robertsons to get our genealogy together. Oddly, I have found information that the Mr. Robert Bolling, who he wrote of, had no rank, nor a title, in the Royal Colony of Virginia, and may have been a de Bolling. Even his father in law called him Mr. Robert Bolling, in his will. So much of this genealogy may have been made up. There is firm evidence a family of Bolling, using the names Rolfe, Powhatan, and Metoaka, were in Virginia, in the same time frame. This family lived, raised families, left records, and died, but are told they are not related because the crazy Judge said so. I take the position that no one has the right answers, or the wrong ones. I even study the crazy Judges book. I study every thing I can find. This has made a few people angry, that I would dare question what they have been told. I hope to not run into people like that, as I have no desire to make them angry, and will avoid them if I can. Alsos there is a lot of different information floating about; I find that a James Bolling, born in 1756, is said to have married two different females; Sallie Blevins, and Letitia Gillespie. I have found older records which says that there were two James Bollings, each born in 1756. One the son of Benjamin Bolling, born in 1734, a Blue Bolling, and James the son of John b 1700, also a Blue Bolling. I take the position that someone may have bible records to prove who James married, or other evidence. I for one would love get proof and move on. One idea which might get us all on the same project, might be to list the known sources of information, and read these. It would clear a lot of this up. So far, the most reliable information source came in via Judge Zelma Price's records. Much of her information I have been able to confirm, but I have not completed this project. I am looking for two things, peace and the truth. I hope they are one and the same. Your friend, Ken Poole
I've gotten some requests to repost my Bowlin info, so here goes. It's going to 3 lists, so please excuse if you get duplicates :). I'm looking for ANY TIDBIT of info on Lucy (Lucinda?) Bowlin, b. ca 1816 (don't know where), d. Apr 11, 1859 in Patrick Co, VA. Her death record gives her parents as James and Frances Bowlin. Either she married another Bowling, or she had two daughters out of wedlock, Catherine (May 23, 1839-Feb 4, 1933) and Susan. I've checked the 1840 census records for Patrick Co., and the only household with a daughter the right age to be Catherine is Mark Bowling. Mark is not listed in the 1850 records; Lucy is the head of household then, which leads me to believe Mark could have been her husband. In 1850 or 1851, Lucy married Elisha Anglin and they had a son, Adron b. ca 1851. By the 1860 census, Lucy had died, Catherine had married William Anderson Rorrer, and Susan was living with Mr. Anglin and Adron. I would appreciate anything. Lucy doesn't seem to plug into the "Red Bollings" anywhere, at least not at this point. I'd appreciate any information on the "White Bollings" that anyone would be willing to send me. For now, she's still "Blue," and I'm still hunting for clues. Thanks all!

I am glad others enjoyed the Pocahontas web site. Since my research is limited, I gather from the responses that what is posted can be generally accepted as true? I guess I was holding my breath for someone to say, "No, no, no, he has it all wrong!" Can someone suggest how to handle the change in spelling of the last name in their databases. Different census will spell the last name different (Boling, Bolling, etc.) and it is not consistent even for the same person. I find it very difficult to search for someone in my own genealogy program with all the different last names for the same family. Are there rules ;-) for this or 'suggested procedures'. Any help would be appreciated. AND ONE MORE THING! I can't get beyond my GGgrandfather: DELANEY (Laney) BOWLING who married Jane McWHORTER (b. 1860). Jane was from Clay County (f. was Elijah). Delaney was shot and killed January 1880 at Walnut Creek church (I think Owsley County). I have discovered 3 Delaney Bowlings in this area of KY of approx. the right age (my guess 20 odd years in 1880). 1) Delaney s/o Elijah Bolin and Zelphia of Breathitt....but someone was sure he lived beyond 1880...I ELIMINATED HIM. 2) Delaney s/o Delaney & Sara SPICER (Breathitt Co.)...anyone know who he married or when he died?? 3) Delaney (b. 1858)s/o Stokely Bolin and Sintha JONES (Perry Co.)...anyone know who he married or when he died?? James Paul Bowlin, b. March 11, 1860 [?Clay Co., KY], died February 11, 1919, according to the information on his tombstone. HOWEVER, after waiting more than 3 weeks for his death certificate, I received notice from Vital Statistics that after searching death records for 1911-1993, no death certificate was found. This man is surrounded with mystery concerning his death [how, when & where]. He was a foreman at WHITEHALL, home of abolitionist and Russian Ambassador, Cassius Marcellus Clay, in Madison Co., KY during latter part of 1800's. The last of his five children was born about 1894, although he and his wife were certainly young enough to have had others. His wife, Almeda HILL Bowlin, lived until 1936 moving between the homes of her children. Many of the grandchildren, 5 of them still living, were between ages 9 and 25 at the time of Almeda's death and heard many stories about their life at Whitehall...but not of a prominent event in late 1890's involving "the Bowling Brothers, foremen for Clay..." During a confrontation with a would-be assasin sent by KKK to kill Cassius Clay, one of the brothers was killed. Clay sent the other to the home of the assasin to retaliate. That brother was then arrested, tried and convicted of murder. The brothers were not referred to by given names, so it has been speculation as to which was James and which was his brother, presumably Eli. NONE of the grandchildren remember James, even though one granddaughter was 8 years old in 1919, the year James supposedly died. In fact, Almeda was already living with her children by that time. This leads to the suspicion that James was the brother sent to prison. Bottom line-------------HELP!! Any leads to the family of news of this event would be helpful and most appreciated. Thanks------Sandi Fraley Stacy

I would love to hear from someone out there who has heard of these Bollens. Thanks so much for the help. My 4ggrandfather, John CARUTHERS Jr. married Rachel BOLLEN, 1806 in St. Clair County, Illinois Territory. Charlotte BOLLEN married James MCDANEIL the same place and same year. I can find no other reference to Bollen (any spelling) at that time and place. The CARUTHER'S family was in Christian Co. Kentucky in 1800 and in the Christian Co. KY deed book, Sept 1811 is the following information: James MCDANIEL and wife Charlotte, of Christian Co. Ky, power of Attorney to James D. BOWLING GROUP, I have sent this inquiry to the Redding group and the Baker_Bolin group. Does any member have information regarding John Bowling and Dorcus Redding Boling? Later...Fred
I knew of the STITHS but had followed Ann's brother Drury. Originally I was told that Rebecca BOLLING was the daughter of Samuel THOMPSON and Rhoda BOLLING. I wondered why she carried her mother's name but have since found out that Samuel and Rhoda weren't married until Rebecca was 16. I believe that Rebecca's parents are probably ? Bolling and Rhoda ?. This is the information I received on Elizabeth Fleming: An interesting example of the influence of Jordans is the law in early Virginia, North Carolina and other parts of the south that disallowed any marriage between Europeans and Indians unless the Indian was a descendant of Pocahantas. This exception to the law was probably insisted upon by Samuel's (born 1578) great great grandson Samuel born 1678, who was a member of the House of Burgess during the time the law was enacted. It was this Samuel that married Elizabeth Flemming who was Pocahantas' great granddaughter. Both Elizabeth and Samuel were Quakers, who even at that early time held very liberal ideas. Elizabeth was the daughter of Col. Fleming and Susannah Tarleton. Do you know of a home page or web site that shows the descendants of Pocahontas? What I have now is: 1 John Rolfe b May 1585 d March 1621/22 m 1614 +Pocahontas b abt 1593 d March 1616/17 2 Thomas Rolfe Jan 1613/14 d aft 1675 m + Jane Poythress 3 John b 1672 3 Jane b 1674 d bef 1713 m bef 1712 + Robert Bolling b 4 Jane Bolling abt 1712 + William Gay (2nd wife of Robert Bolling) Anne Stith b 4 Ann Bolling b 1713 + John Hall b 1709 5 Lucy Hall b 1736 d Feb 1815 + Richard Stith b Sept 1727 d Nov 1802 m Dec 1756 6 Lucy Stith b March 1761 d June 1802 m June 1780 + William Jordan Thank you for your information.
