The surname "Boles" was picked up on the Personalized Mailing List yesterday at this URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/topics.organizations.orvf/2087/mb.ashx I went to that site to see who posted it and what it said, and unfortunately the poster wants to remain anonymous so I can't send her an invitation to join us on the Bowles list. Here's what she had to say: I am looking to trade information with any descendants of the Helms, Good, Massena, or Hartman families of Ohio, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania. The Massena family's daughter Ella married Samuel Helms. I have traced Ella's mother, Barbara Cramer, but cannot find ancestors of her father Samuel Massena. He was born in PA and fought for WV in the Civil War. I cannot find his date or location of death. Samuel Helms' grandfather, Benonan Helms, is also a dead end. Samuel Helms' mother is Elizabeth Boles. I am attempting to find her parents and siblings. Ella and Samuel Helms' daughter Birdie/Bertha Helms married Louis Good. I cannot find any ancestors of Louis Good. He went by the nicknames "Gramps" and "Rolling Red." It is said that he was a hobo on the train system. He died in California. Louis and Birdie Good's daughter Dollie married Wilbur Hartman. Wilbur is the son of Reuben Hartman and Maggie E. I have no information regarding Maggie and would like to find her maiden name. Reuben is the son of Joseph Hartman and Luanna Smith. I would like to trace the Hartman and Smith families further. Please respond with any information, particularly regarding the Massena family. Other spellings include Mazena, Mozzena, Maseana, Mezziner, etc. It is rumored that the Massena family descended from the French General Andre Massena, however I cannot find a connection. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information linking my Elizabeth Boles to Jesse Bowles and Chloe Parker is NOT correct. Jesse Bowles and Chloe Parker had a daughter named Elizabeth, however she died at the age of approximately two. Unfortunately, I had to delete this entire line from my tree and start over from scratch. Please feel free to forward the information to the Bowles list, however I am not certain that we are affiliated. I believe Elizabeth's father may have been her next door neighbor in the 1850's, John Boles, and if so, he came from Ireland. I cannot prove this link. I do have access to Ancestry.com and have exhausted all of the resources there. Thank you for the information that you provided, however I believe I have most of this information attached to my tree already. The Helms line ends with Benonan Helms and I have yet to find anyone who has been able to locate his parents. I have not been able to confirm the Hartman line past Joseph Hartman. The lines also end with Samuel Massena and Louis Good. These are the lines that I am trying to find as I cannot find any records of their parents. I have already traced the wives' families, with the exception of Elizabeth Boles.
