Sir Walter (1874-1970) a distinguished academic, lived with his family in Suburban Road, South Perth, for 51 years. Seeking names, photos, details of service and some background information from family members about these young men whose last glimpse of Australian soil for many was Albany. The database is well under way with 600 entries ó including from the UK, NZ and Scotland. It was built in one day in 1916. The heritage-listed cottage is open to the public on Sunday May 8 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Admission is free but there is a donation box. CRIDDLE : Inspired by the enthusiasm of Anzac Day, Roy CRIDDLE plans to compile a detailed armed services register with information about all the men and women linked to the family tree of William and Elizabeth CRIDDLE, who married in Toodyay in 1840. His father Harold CRIDDLE and five of his brothers joined the AIF and served overseas in World War I but little is known of the others. This project follows a reprint of Roy's family history publication, Alternatives at Swan River, about the lives of William and Elizabeth who arrived at the Swan River Colony in 1829. Tel: 9529 1590. mailto:educant@iinet.net.au GALLIPOLI STORIES : The writer is compiling a book on the Gallipoli campaign based around over 100 letters her grandfather wrote home in 1915-16 while convalescing from battle wounds in Malta, where there was a military hospital. He was one of the frontline into battle on April 25, 1915. Seeking (i) any families whose relatives took part in the initial landings on April 25,1915, prepared to share their family history (and photos of their men); (ii) any families who had relatives in Malta during that time who had been injured in battle and went there for convalescence and (iii) copies of letters sent home to their families by men at the front that give first-hand information on conditions at the time.
