If you want to learn about Texas history in its many incarnations, this is a great website to get you started. It's from the point of view of those of Celtic origins who influenced Texas history. If you want to skim over that idea, it's still a great read. Not having been educated in Texas, I could never quite connect the various pieces of who fought where and what Mexico was doing at the time, and where the various Indian tribes fit in, and how the settlements' names changed. This site makes it all understandable, as complex as it was. William Augustus Bowles is in here, as is Chief John Bowles, and Henry Smith, my ancestor who was the first provisional governor of Texas. (If you see mention of him elsewhere, please send it my way.)
