    3. This article was extracted from "The Lexington Herald", dated Wednesday July 24, 1907 (Page 1, Column 1) and appeared in the "The Bourbon Countian", a newsletter of the Bourbon County, Kentucky Genealogical Society, ISSN 1547-4410, Issue #1. "Paris, Kentucky, July 23, there was a reunion of Company "C", Ninth Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A. held today at the home of Mr. Charles H. Meng (it is not spelled Menz) near North Middletown, at which seventeen of the surviving forty-three members of that noted company were present. "Mr. Meng chose the anniversary of the battle of Atlanta, in which the company participated, for the reunion, and invited every surviving member of the company to dinner. There are forty-three members of that noted company now living and they are scattered over ten states. At the dinner today there were seventeen gathered together to enjoy the bountiful hospitality of the host and recount again the stories of the years spent together overy forty years ago. The home of Mr. Meng was exquisitely decorated with flags and flowers and the dinner was such as not one of the guests saw during the entire four years of their service - all the good things that make Kentucky housekeepers famous the world over. Of those present one came from Georgia, one from Louisville, one from Fanklin, and one from Mason County to meet again the comrades of the war. Those present there were the following members of the company: [1] Capt. Edward Taylor, Lexington, Ky. [2] John E. Abrams/Abraham, Louisville, Ky. (carried on the roster as John Abrams) [3] George T. Bradley, Winchester, Ky. [4] John W. Boulden, Maysville, Ky. (misspelled in article-Bourlden) [5] A. T. Forsythe, Paris, Ky. [6] Lafayette Grinnan, Paris, Ky. [7] Lloyd Harp, Forsythe, Georgia. [8] Garrard Holt, Paris, Ky. [9] Lt. Joseph E. Hedges, Paris, Ky. [10] Charles H. Meng, North Middletown (spelled Menz on roster) [11] Russell Mann, Paris, Ky. [12] Alexander Macklin, Frankfort, Ky. [13] Joseph A. Miller, Millersburg, Ky. [14] John D. Penn, Shawhan, Ky. [15] C. W. Rogers, Lexington, Ky. [16] John W. Skillman, North Middletown, Ky. [17] I. N. Stone, North Middletown, Ky. In addition to these members of Company "C", there were present Dr. Weaver and Capt. Ed K. Thomas of North Middletown and Desha Breckinridge of Lexington, the son of Col. William C. P. Breckinridge who commanded the Ninth Kentucky. Souvenirs of reunion given by Charles H. Meng, July 23, 1907 to Company C, Ninth Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry, Confederate States of America. "This was one of the very finest bodies of young men that enlisted in any army, and became the equal of any company in the service of either army during the war. It was not given to may companies to achieve an individual character and separate identity, but this company did win such a character, its action at Noonday Creek, at Snake Creek Gap, Dug Gap, at Sunshine Church and Jug Tavern and other places was so conspicuous and handsome that it became known as a large, well disciplined and gallant company."
