Have you tried just looking for Hiram, with no last name, in the 1850 census? I saw Bowles, Boles, and Bloss. That was exactly how I found one of my Bowles family members.? The transcribers of the census rolls misspelled Bowles for Bornless...naturally I was delighted to have found them but couldn't help but just shake my head at the time spend banging my head against that old brick wall trying to find that family during that census year.
