    3. ===================================================================== Match: Bowles Source: SOUTH-CENTRAL-KENTUCKY@rootsweb.com From: Sandi Gorin <sgorin@glasgow-ky.com> Subject: [SCKY] BARREN CO CIRCUIT COURT VOLUME 12, PUZZLERS, RESEARCH TIPS, The late researchers Eva Coe Peden and Gladys Benedict Wilson worked together on many projects, including typing up the Circuit Court records of Barren and Monroe Co. I have just finished putting together Volume 12 of the Circuit Court records of Barren Co. The cases in this volume were provided by Martha Powell Harrison who, along with myself, over the years, received copies of their works. These again are records which no longer exist locally. I decided that, due to the amount of cases, to present this volume in its original rough draft format. It contains cases transcribed by both ladies - 53 or so cases ranging from 1813 - 1900 with the majority being in the early to mid 1800s. Since it is their original work; there are typographical errors (cross-outs and inserts) but the names and dates are correct and it is easy to read. The cases are in full, not abstracted. Gladys often added additional information on marriages, etc. There will be more volumes to follow as I have time. Some of the surnames involved as plaintiff or defendant include: Mosby, Shaw, Nuckols, Redford, Shirley, Benedict, Wilborn, Howard, Fulcher, Wooten, Garnett, Stockton, Billingsly, Green, Dougherty, Jordan, Jewell, Gillock, Sanderson, Peers, Self, Galloway, Locke, Bowles, Newman, Gardner, West, Dickinson, Whitney, Wheeler, Huffman, Page, Perkins, Dilly, Renfro, Duke, Slayton, Maglocklin, McMillin, McFelia, Browning, Bradshaw, Kinslow, Bragg, Mitchell, Prewitt, Franklin, Drain, Dale, Arnold, Carter, Austin and more. Cases include sale of lands to heirs, divorces, dower allottment, debts and more. There are some plat maps and a lot of heirs listed. The book is 228 pages long including a full-name index. If you would like to see a copy of the index, please write me privately and I will email it to you as I usually do. I'm hoping in the next few weeks to begin the weekly puzzlers again ... life is quieting down somewhat thankfully. I am finishing up an in depth mini series on the lunatic asylums on KYRESEARCH which has links to many sites where inmates are shown. This will be followed by a list of some of the old medical/dental tools and treatments of the 19th century and then a 2-3 part series on the orphanages in the 19th century in Kentucky. If you're not on this weekly list (Thursdays) you can subscribe by sending an email to KYRESEARCH-REQUEST@rootsweb.com and putting the word subscribe in the subject line and in the body of the email. Finally, the time for posting your missing ancestors whose surname begins with D & E is passed. If you need information on an individual whose name begins with "F" who lived in the counties covered by this list - you're welcome to post it. If you have information that would help someone who has posted a query, you may post your assistance to the list or write to them privately. See you tomorrow with a look at the Glasgow KY Times of the 1890s.
