Petra adds to her posting: Keswick is in Cumberland, England. The poet laureate was Robert SOUTHEY (12 Aug 1774 - 21 Mar 1843), an English poet of the Romantic School. You can look him up on Wikipedia or in any other encyclopaedia. I looked in The Times for a report on his marriage, but all I saw was a little news snippet on 22 March saying he was going to marry Miss BOWLES in the west of England "at the end of the week". He was born in Bristol, so that's the area to look for the marriage! FreeBMD has the marriage: June Quarter 1839 Lymington 8 296 Robert SOUTHEY matches Caroline Anne BOWLES So it seems the marriage was a little later than the end of that week in March! ===================================================================== Match: Bowles Source: [email protected] From: "Petra Mitchinson" <[email protected]> Subject: [CUMB] The Times, 14 Mar 1839 - Marriage HILL - SOUTHEY The Times, Thursday, Mar 14, 1839; pg. 6; Issue 16989; col D Miss Bertha SOUTHEY, the daughter of the Poet Laureate, was married yesterday morning, at Keswick, to the Rev.
