    1. Re: William Bowles (Try William Allen Bowles)
    2. Ralph Bowles
    3. Hi once again to Gracie and gang I should have added a bit more to my last email. I can't find any connection of William Allen Bowles having a brother or any other relation in America when he arrived. It would be a new arrow for my quiver if he had. You have mentioned the item shown below. I am sure the BOWLES, William PRESTON, Sally 22 Jan 1797, is W.A. Bowles as the date of his marriage to Sarah Preston is the same as you have listed. So I think you can add (Allen) as his middle name. Franklin Co, Marriages > BOWLES, William BOLLING, Nancy 27 Dec 1800 > BOWLES, William PRESTON, Sally 22 Jan 1797 As you can see by the continuance of me earlier email, W.A. and Sarah had two sons (as far as I can see) and their wives and children are listed as well. It's close to bed time here ion England so I must sign off for tonight. Someone out there have a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup for me. I do miss them. This is the beginning* of my father's family tree in America Researched by: Bowles, Ralph William Born: 3 May 1940 in Gary, Indiana USA father: Bowles, Buelah (Buel) Belford mother: Ferderer, Madeline Cloe ************************************************************************************ The original settler, whose name was William Allen Bowles, was an Englishman who crossed the Atlantic Ocean shortly after the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the thirteen American colonies. His wife's name was Sarah (Sally) Preston, she was Irish. Both he and his wife crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the same ship before their marriage, both were unable to pay for their transportation. They were arrested and sold for the amount of their ship fare across the sea to New York(?). William Allen Bowles was sold to a tanner, and Sarah Preston was sold to a baker, each for a term of seven years. After the expiration of this long period they were married, and removed to Franklin County, Virginia. They had two sons, Edmond and David. 1. Franklin VA or Franklin County VA?
    2. Charles Hartley
    3. I admit that I'm only half-way listening to this conversation (too many irons, too many fires), but are we confusing Bowles men in Franklin County with those in Franklin VA which I think is in Albemarle County? It's easy to get confused (which I probably am). Charlie
