    3. ===================================================================== Match: Bowles Source: SOUTH-AFRICA-EASTERN-CAPE-L@rootsweb.com From: Sue Mackay <rhoosesue@yahoo.co.uk> Subject: List of those entitled to compensation following Kaffir War 1846 This list is rather long, so have included it separately rather than as part of the 1848 Grahamstown Journal Transcriptions. It appeared in the paper for 25 March 1848 and subsequent weeks. As I had to take several photos to cover the list there are occasional names that I am unsure about where the pictures don't quite join. Otherwise it is transcribed as written, so bear in mind that it is not QUITE alphabetical. Sue Cardiff COMMISSARIAT COMPENSATION FOR LOSS OF WAGONS, OXEN &C The undersigned persons are hereby informed that compensation has been awarded to them for losses sustained by them of wagons, oxen &c during the war with the Kaffir Tribes, between the months of April and December 1846, and which will be payable at this office on the 5th April next.
