This makes a total of 1, 395 pages. The table of contents alone covers eleven pages; each of the above headings in the title are generously covered and the amount of history and incidents included is incredible. There is a history of each of the townships which gives the source for the township's name, the population, physical characteristics, the pioneers and early settlers, the churches, schools, villages, cemeteries, justices, damages caused by cyclones and other catastrophic events, first elections - this book is just filled with history that was written 110 years ago in 1895; since the county was formed from Allegheny County in 1800, much of this was first hand history - gathered from personal knowledge and from the experiences of their parents and grandparents. There is a really great county map which shows the townships, villages and waterways! Volume Two holds the biographies, many of which go back for generations; although the many portraits are somewhat dark, it is a joy to be able to see the faces of these early pioneers.
