I've been corresponding with L. Eugene Atkinson (latki86459@aol.com) who is the author of one of two books referring to Hanover County, VA. I've asked him to look for the surname "Bowles." Here's what he tells me: This is a two-volume work. One book is entitled "Church Cemeteries of Upper Hanover County, Virginia." It covers the western end of Hanover County, with over 6300 tombstone inscriptions. The second book is entitled "Church Cemeteries of Lower Hanover County, Virginia." It covers the eastern end of Hanover County, with over 4,860 tombstone inscriptions. The entire county of Hanover's church cemeteries is covered in these two books, with areas such as Mechanicsville, Cold Harbor, Old Church, Black Creek, Studley, Peaks, Hanover Courthouse, Ashland, Beaverdam, and Montpelier being represented. Interstate 95 is the dividing line between the western and eastern ends of the county. Mr. Atkinson is co-author of this work with Ms. Judith P. Lowry. She is responsible for the Upper Hanover County listings, and he is responsible for the Lower Hanover County listings.
