Millard Loss Bowles, 22, of the Palestine community, suffered a fractured skull. He died at the Rosary Hospital about 20 minutes after the accident. Two of the three other persons in the car were hospitalized. The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries. The accident occurred at 3 p.m. about one half mile southeast of town on the Smith's Ridge Road, just off the Elkhorn Road. Jeffries told authorities that he applied his brakes on wet pavement on a curve and the car skidded into the side of the pickup truck driven by Maupin. Both vehicles were reported a total loss. Charles Fawcett, 23, Taylor County, who suffered cuts and two broken ribs, and Jeffries, who received shoulder injuries, were hospitalized. A third passenger, Kenneth Agee, 23, also of Taylor County, was not injured. Both Fawcett and ! Jeffries have been released from the hospital and are reported to be well recovered from their injuries. Bowles, who was born May 23, 1934, in Taylor County, is survived by his mother, Stella Bowles, Route 2; and his grandfather, John Bowles, Route 2. He was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Friday, June 22 at 2 p.m. from the Palestine Baptist Church with the Rev. Marshall Black in charge, assisted by Mr. J. K. Powell. Burial was in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Louis Garnett, Robbie Davis, Donald Colvin, David Smith, James Kessler, and George Mitchell. The honorary bearers were Bobby Holt, Gowdy Maupin, Owsley Smith, Bobby Fawcett, Larry Garnett, Jerry Pike, Harold Smith, Hollis Hancock, Earl Byron Smith, Albert Wise, and Edwin Smith.
