James 'Red' Sageser Published: Monday, January 14, 2008, Carmi Times NEW HAVEN James C. "Red" Sageser, 79, a longtime resident of New Haven, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado, after an extended illness. "Red," as most knew him, was born Dec. 8, 1928 in Edmond, Okla. to the late James Maulby and Rachel (Know) Sageser. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Vina "Van" (Bowles) Sageser. He served his country in the Armed Services during World War II. He was retired from the Boilermakers Union Local 374, working many years at B & W in Mt. Vernon, Ind. After retirement, he worked in the oil industry, helping his sons. Red was a member of the American Legion and Carmi VFW. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he will be greatly missed by the community. He is survived by his wife, Van Sageser of New Haven; a son, Scott (Rhonda) Sageser of Carmi; two daughters, Billie Sue (Chuck) Warman of New Haven and Kay (Kevin) Maloney of Norris City; a daughter-in-law, Karla Sageser of Carmi; six grandchildren Amanda Smith, Jakob and Keather Sageser, Meghan, Lucas and Molly Maloney; and four great-grandchildren, Bryson and Dayton Sageser, Laci Mills and Sophia Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jim Sageser. Visitation for Red will be after 4 p.m. Monday at Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven, with the Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Interment will be at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven.
