Okay, I think this is William H. Bowles who married Sarah Ann Petrie in Christian County KY on 5 Feb 1856. According to what I have found (undocumented) she was a daughter of John W. Petree (varied spelling). I found William H. Bowles in the 1850 census for Christian County. He was listed as age 19 and a carpenter. Unfortunately he was living in a boarding house with a bunch of other carpenters so there is no indication of his parents. By 1860 he and Sarah Ann are married, with two children: Azilee, age 3; and Altamont, age 4/12. Azilee is almost certainly the same as the Adala in the 1870 census, and Altamont must be Walter; at least the ages are right. The family is living in Christian County KY in 1860. The reason I have been tracing this family is that their son Walter ended up in Grant County OK in 1900 with his family, and his Bowles family was the only one I couldn't identify in the Grant County census. All of the rest of the Bowles families there are descended from John and Celia Bowles of Metcalfe County KY, but Walter's does not appear to be related to them, at least in any way that I can see.
