    3. Can anyone tell us about this Samuel Harper Boles? In my notes, Tony Wooten of our list (awooten@terracom.net) wrote on 14 March 1997 that Samuel Harper ("Judge") Boles married Mary Rebecca Parham. Tony, have you found anything to indicate that this particular S. H. Boles had more than one marriage? Or is this a case where our Boles ancestor cousins named their sons Samuel Harper for generations and we have more than one Samuel Harper? My second question has to do with the Harper name. Does anyone know about where his Harper middle name comes from? I have an Elizabeth Harper (nothing known) who married James Shackelford Gillett, who was born in 1810 in KY. The Shackelfords and Gilletts were in Barren Co. at the same time that my Bowles line was there. They also migrated to TX and married into my Bowles tree. So I'm wondering if Elizabeth Harper was of this same group, or if she met and married James Shackelford in TX. Any clues? "THE DEATH OF MR. S. H. BOLES, SUNDAY. Mr. S. H. Boles, known to his intimates as "Judge" Boles, died at the Maplewood Infirmary here last Saturday morning at 1:30 o'clock; death followed a serious surgical operation for an aggravated stomach trouble, and little hope was entertained for him at the outset. "Mr. Boles was in his forty-third year and a son of the late Mr. Chas. Boles, and a grandson of the late S. H. Boles, on the county's best known men of his day and generation. "Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Eliza Boles, and two brothers, Messrs. Chas. Boles, of Washington, D. C. and Fielding Boles of this place, and his wife (before her marriage Miss Nora Kerley) and seven children -- five boys and two girls, all of whom were at the bedside when death came. "Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Fielding Boles, here, Sunday afternoon, and was preached by Rev Duncan, after which interment was in the Glasgow cemetery. "Mr. Boles was one of the best-liked and best-known men in Barren County, and the great crowd attending his funeral, from all parts of the country, attested to the esteem in which he was held. "He was a loving and considerate husband; a true friend; a good christian character - a member of the Baptist church and a man whose character was above reproach. "Mr. Boles had many admirers because of his sturdy and clean nature; and all of them are sorry, to-day, because of the passing of a friend." Unknown Glasgow KY newspaper
