    3. ===================================================================== Match: Bowles Source: GEN-BOOKS-L@rootsweb.com From: "Helen" <Helenh@pdq.net> Subject: The Way Family - See names The Way Family: John and Mary (Long) Way of Nantucket with Notes on Other Way Families, Mary Elizabeth Way, M.S.W., 1969. Denim cloth covered hardback, 8-1/2 x 11, 287 pages, the end pages feature maps of the Nantucket area giving locations of topographical features and location of the Way house. The only flaw is some very very light foxing to the edges of the closed pages and perhaps, just a faint trace of a musty smell. There are no markings of any kind, loose or dog eared pages. It is believed this is another book from the library of Willard Heiss and, thus, may have been stored for a few years. The book has a few illustrations, charts, and an everyname index. It is just filled with transcriptions of marriage certificates, including the names of the witnesses to the marriage of this Quaker couple, deeds, wills, and other records. There are interesting facts given, such as being lost at sea, removal to North Carolina, etc, and the end notes are most helpful. There is some information on the very early Ways of England, but the bulk of the book centers on John and Mary Long Way, of Nantucket, and their descendants. Of their children - William, Sarah, Elizabeth, John, Paul, Seth, and Anna - the authors have provided as much information and carried lines down as far as possible. Son John was lost at sea, and his wife, was "cousin" Elizabeth Long, daughter of Samuel and Lydia Coffin Long; Paul was also lost at sea and his wife, Mary Macy removed to Guilford County, North Carolina where she married 2) James Anthony. Such was the life in this seafaring community. Descendants were to remove to North Carolina, Ohio, Randolph and Wayne Counties, Indiana, and elsewhere. I just cannot stress enough the personal information that has been amassed in this compilation which serves to bring these people to life. The authors then sought to bring forward as much information as possible on other, apparently unrelated or unplaced Way lines. Truly, a nice book.
